SSX 3 is a retro masterpiece - and it's even better on Xbox One
|
@Anrkist bas One and One S are the same... the S has a small GPU boost but it is almost not worth mentioning. the X on the other hand... ya, if yoy want an Xbox One, go for the X, eveb if you only have a 1080p TV, the X is the way to go. way faster loading times in many games, better framerates, some games havr better textures, it forces vsync and 16x af on all non patched games... then there are the select 360 games that get patches... that gives you 4k60fps Skate 3 for example, or 4k Gears of War 2 & 3 (especially 3 looks stunning at times in 4k) believe me, once you've played on an X for a while, the S is just not doing it anymore. |

@alexatkin the difference is 10% at max. and it is very rare to see a 10% difference. it usually is closer to 5%, which in a 60fps game translates to a difference of 3 frames per second... even the worst case scenario would only be 6fps in demanding scenes. but again, that is a rare occasion. |

Steam now officially supports the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
|
@BigOrkWaaagh Nintendos color coding was all over the place tho... SNES had a Red A button and a Yellow B button, the N64 had a Blue A button and a Green B button, the GameCube had a Green A button and a Red B button. tgey then reversed everything to SNES colors with the New 3DS line and now dropped them again... |

@Jam_Pudding analog triggers are only useful for racing games. this controller is by far thebest controller if you want to use gyro aiming on PC. it is more ergonomic than the dualshock 4, you can use it via bluetooth without a dongle and it has a battery that lasts 40h. if you want gyro supportand a modern layout, this is thebest controller on the market |
1
0
| @droflahn you can easily already use it on PC... and it doesn't have gyro aim, making it not really necessary to have Steam support |

well, finally a good gyro compatible controller on steam! the DualShock 4 is not ergonomic enough for proper gyro aiming, if you press R2 to shoot you whole controller moves upwards, ruining your aim. the only way to keep it from doing that is to cramp you hands while you try to hold it in place. if your hands ever get tired playing with the DS4, now you know why. every time you press or hold R2 the controller moves upwards a bit, and you subconsciously try to hold it in place, and after a while that will strain your middle and Ringfingers aswell as your thumb. |

What's up with The Witcher 3 patch 1.61 on PS4 Pro?
|
@twztid13 c = Checkerboarding, p = pixels/progressive scan, i = interlaced scan "cb" is also used some times for checkerboarding. so basically: 1800p = a resolution with the full 1800 vertical pixels 1800i = a resolution that only renders half of the 1800 vertical pixels each frame 1800c = half the horizontal resolution each frame that then gets processed to create a full frame based on information of the last few frames |

@SammIKid well ya, but that's just the reason behind the fact... as a consumer that's irrelevant. the Pro feels like some Frankenstein's monster (and it looks like one xD) it is big as hell, is loud, it's just slightly overclocked, and all they really did to the GPU is copy paste to double what is there with slight enhancements. why? because that was the easy way to ensure compatibility... deactivate 1 half of the GPU and you got yourself a base ps4. as a consumer that is kinda disappointing. the One X on the other hand has a completely new GPU, masterfully designed to be not only miles ahead of the base console but also 100% compatible at the same time (they tested every single game and adjusted the console on an OS level if a game had issues) it is smaller than the S and you can barely hear it due to the intelligent cooling and power-efficiency solution. furthermore, it automatically applies graphics enhancements to all games (16x AF + forced V-sync) and it is way easier to develop for due to it's GPU being powerful enough to support a 4K tv good enough without the need of reconstruction methods (which are harder to implement than a simple resolution boost) the One X, from a consumers perspective, is the better hardware if you have a 4k TV and want to have the best entertainment system for said TV. the Pro on the other hand, really, is just for people like me, people that want the best versions of console games that are only on PS4 or only have patches on Pro but not One X (due to them being a bit older like the aforementioned Deus Ex for example) |

@Ivattthestanier it can get loud, but not as loud as the Fat 10xx and 11xx. the 12xx wws really quiet too for the most part. the slim is slightly nore quiet than the 12xx. but again, that's basically just an average... on average thats hiw they scale from my experience from loud to quiet: 5. 10xx/11xx 4. 70xx/71xx 3. 12xx 2. 21xx 1. 20xx you still can get a 70xx that is louder than one of the more silent 11xx, since again, this is just an average score, and you have no guarantee how loud it will be and there is no way of telling how loud it will get on certain games. |

@Ivattthestanier it can rarely get loud enough to be annoying. my PS4 fat (11XX) was way louder, that thing really pissed me off sometimes. but that too was nothing compared to the 10XX a friend of mine had, we played Infamous on his one day, and I actually thought that freakin thing is about to explode! it was truly frightening! but for othergames it was super quiet... my 11XX is absolutely silent while playing Infamous... that just shows how absolutely random this is! the only hardware difference between the 10XX and the 11XX is the improved wifi antenna, yet vastly different noise levels on games... mine was loud in games his was silent and the other way around... makes zero sense. themost silent PS4 I ever played on was the Slim 20XX, even during games where the fan noticeably ramped up, it was still absolutely tolerable. the Pro is roughly equally as quiet on games that don't have pro support (makes sense since it will turn off half of the GPU) |

| @michielhageman Hairworks looks like ass and is a GPU hog, a waste of resources... you're better off pushing the resolution instead for some nice AA |

@higganos there is a lot of foliage on display, and transparency's are taxing GPUs extremely hard. this game is simply way too taxing for a 2160c render. they should drop it to 1800c,which still looks good on a 4k screen and would instantly make it run more stable |

@Fourfoldroot while there is some truth to your comment, it has absolutely no relation to this article since this is a GPU issue... so stfu or say something relevant to the arctile :) |

@Paul1979UK well I agree with you to a point, but as a hardcore console gamer you don't get around it. it is still the best way to play some games on console... was it rushed? likely yes. does it feel half assed? sure. is the One X way better designed? absolutely... but, NiOh at launch at 1080p60, or Gof of War in performance mode (even tho it leaves a lot to be desired), Deus Ex in 1800c and better framerate... the Pro is the only way to do that on console. so as someone who really doesn't likeit to play games on PC (with some exceptions), the Pro is simply a must, even tho it is kinda half assed and often disappointing |
6
3
|
@Ivattthestanier it's completely random. there are 2 Pro models, the 70XX and the 71XX but they aren't really that different. how loud your Pro is is absolutely random, my Pro ges loud here and there while playing God of War, my cousins Pro is loud consistently throughout gameplay. they both have enough space to draw in air (his is actually even on a more open spot ontop of a shelf, while mine is right next to my One X and has both the NES and SNES mini standing on top of it) we both have the 70XX |

what they should do is drop the resolution to 1800c and reinstate the LOD levels of the old patch. the 4k mode is completely handicapped by these LOD changes, and 1800c with the higher setting should actually look better while running as good or even better as it does right now. |

@Cyber6 it is weird tho that it is. especially on a list with pay 2 win Fifa or ACTUALLY LITERALLY GAMBLING CounterStrike GO where you can sell shit for real money. compared to those the boxes in Overwatch are extremely mild... loot boxes suck, that's for sure, this list is still a bit weird tho |

PlayStation Plus' games for May include Rayman Legends and Beyond: Two Souls
|
not a month for me sadly. Beyond Two Souls is just absolutely trash Rayman I have already for like 3 consoles (it was gold on 360 and One already I think, and I have it on Wii U) then Risen 3, which is not only just an absolutely awful game. it also has an absolutely awful PS3 port, while already running like ass on everything else. the other PS3 game I don't even know... hut who k ows, might be good? and I don't have a Vita, so nothing for me there. well, not all months can have Bloodborne and Ratched xD (that month sucked too for me because I already owned all games that month xD) |

How Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is improved on Switch
|
@Liquid_Vegeta as far as I know, we have never seen the difference between portable and docked resolution be bigger than 720p to 1080p. usually if a game runs at 720p in portable mode it has a high chance of running at 1080 in docked mode, but it might fall short and be only 900p. but I am pretty sure this is the first 1080p game in docked that runs below 720p in portable mode. so in DKC:TF's case the usual outcome has been reversed. and that is very odd to see |

Summer Games Done Quick reveals full game and speedrunner list for 2018
|
@tacc that's not the point. th point is that runners feel pressured to behave in a very certain way, constantly fearing being blacklisted. there have been interviews with some runners that say that the event has literally become an exercise in walking on eggshells. there have been runners blacklisted for wearing a hat, now get this... for wearing a hat that kinda sorta looked like a MAGA hat but wasn't one. this event has become a shell of its former self |

DF Retro: Sonic CD - under-appreciated but still brilliant today
|
the way the Retro Engine remake/port was made should be the way all companies should do it. I am sick of playing the same, slowdown laden, flickering and glitchy Mega Man games over and over again... how about recreating them with a modern engine? make them look better, run at a perfect 60fps and fix alme of the issues each individual game has... especially Mega Man 1 needs some fixing in almost every department. #1 The Controls, which are extremely floaty and clunky #2 The Leveldesign, which has some really tedious parts, some rng sections that can bring the game to a full stop in the later stages and just some really boring parts. #3 The Glitches, which are plenty and sometimes the fault of the old hardware it was made for. #4 The Visual style of powerups that doesn't fit with any other game in the series the only option nowadays to play a version of MM1 that isn't complete ass is Powered Up, but that one didn't fix the awful controls... they just brought those over for some reason >_< and the thing is, they already have a working engine for F's sake! the MM9/10 engine! |

Resident Evil 7's Xbox One X patch offers a big boost over the standard console
|
they should set the Xbox One X's AA to the one PS4pro is using. not only would it sharpen the image, it might also iron out some of the small framedrops that are still present. the less agressive AA could also work better than on PS4 pro since the resolution is higher, which will automatically result in less shimmering. sometimes I am just not getting some decisions made by developers... one of the reasons why I am for PC like graphics options on console... Warframe does it and it is great! |

the new TR games are slightly above average at best, the controls are spongy, the puzzles mediocre and the better ones are optional and hidden, the stealth mechanics are boring, the story is absolutely stupid and the new Lara lost all of the characters iconic qualities.
