Eurogamer's Top 50 Games of 2017: 10-1

jimlufc

I knew Eurogamer had a JRPG problem seeing as though they can't be arsed reviewing most of them but never thought it was this bad.

Sister site US Gamer seems to manage tonnes of JRPG content though. Strange.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp review

The problem here is that Nintendo tried to make a non micro transaction centred mobile game (Mario) but the masses were outraged at the thought of actually paying for a game.

Seems like Nintendo, much like other publishers, can't win either way. At least this way will make loads of money they can invest in making proper games for the switch.

Cyber Gadget Retro Freak review

I will get negged to the pits of hell for this but my heart is not bleeding for a developer of an emulator whose sole purpose is to allow people to play illegally downloaded games.

People will argue that emulation is legal if you own the cart blah blah blah but 99% of emulator users will have illegally downloaded those ROMs.

Not that I have a problem with that. Nor do I have a problem with a hardware company including open sourced software with its products.

Watch Final Fantasy 7 re-imagined as a 2D beat-'em-up

This is clearly an advertising ploy by the developer to get attention. And what click baity is there than FF7?

They didn't release it first because they WANT to get get shut down by Square Enix because that makes even better headlines, more attention, more support.

I still struggle to come to terms with them cancelling FM Live after the ludicrous number of hours I put in. Having an online game just for Korea is quite insulting I think.

Tried going back to single player and it was boring as hell. Currently playing 15 with some friends on network mode and that's a lot better.

Guess SI are still getting my money which I vowed wouldn't happen after what they did with Live.

I'm someone who bought a Nexus 4 and then a Nexus 5 on day one.

Absolutely no chance will I be buying this. I saw someone using one the other day and it just looked silly.

Eurogamer bottling it let's be honest.

This seems daft to me.

You haven't dropped scores, you've just got less scores.

9 or 10 = essential
7 or 8= recommended
6 or less avoid

Why do 'hardcore gamers' find it so difficult to use the motion controls in MK Wii?

I thought they were intuitive and extremely responsive and accurate once mastered. I remember being really quite good on MK Wii and could always challenge the best online players even with them using a traditional pad.

PS4 developer: Sony mandates Vita Remote Play for all games

jimlufc

That is probably because you live with your parents and have your console hooked up in your bedroom.

When you enter the real world you will realise how difficult it is to get completely alone time with the family TV, especially after a hard day at work, when you've got cooking to do, kids wanting to watch stuff, a wife wanting to watch something with you etc.

A quick half an hour on the sofa or in bed is a lot more than a lot of people manage these days. And I'm not talking about sex.

Eurogamer Readers' Top 50 Games of 2012

jimlufc

Fez is a platform exclusive. Therefore half of the EG readers probably didn't have the opportunity to play it.

Hence the lower list position.

It was my game of the year though, though I imagine that the massive pressure on me to appear arty and cool negates my choice in a lot of your minds.

Archos GamePad: an Android gaming tablet that looks like PlayStation Vita

jimlufc

I think this could be the future of handheld gaming.

Many manufacturers making many devices all based on Android. The more devices released (and we have this, the X-peria Play and the Ouya announced already), the more developers who will support button input.

It will be much like the phone market.

Nintendo hits back at Wii U power concern

@TRUTH

My most played games of this year thus far:

Fez
Minecraft
Football Manager

Graphics seem to matter to geeks on forums. The sales figures for the Wii, the DS, the 3DS may suggest they don't matter as much to normal folk.

And normal folk's cash speaks just as loudly as yours.

Why are people simply assuming that the new generation will be released in the next couple of years?

I've seen nothing to suggest such a thing.

Furthermore, with the ridiculous cost it would take for Sony/Microsoft to develop and sell a true next generation machine, I can see any new consoles being prohibitively expensive.

Add to this that fact that whatever us geeks on gaming forums say, the graphical jump to the next generation will be nowhere near as obvious to the untrained eye as the transition from SD to HD was.

Then there's the huge costs associated with developing new titles to be truly next gen and the fact that the current Xbox/PS3 hardware has such a high install base, that I can't see developers leaving these machines any time soon.

I think the WiiU will be safely receiving ports of Xbox and PS3 games for the next four or five years to be honest.

Football Manager dev hopes to stick with Android despite 9:1 piracy rate

jimlufc

Thanks for the response Marc.

Anyway, this whole ratio debate is a red herring anyway. The only part of the 9:1 ratio that really matters is the 1 bit.

And considering the title has sold well over 10,000 copies in a matter of weeks at a high price point for the platform is not bad.

The income brought in must easily have dwarfed the same cost of porting.

Good games are an 'entertainment form', shit ports of shit iOs games are a waste of time and money.

I wasted 7 of my hard earned money. Money I earned doing a far more valuable job than developing a football game. Earning a lot less in the process too.

7 on a bad port which ignores android buttons and doesn't even run in the correct resolution. 7 on game i could try via a demo beforehand, and for which I have no right to resell.

The game got two hours play then an uninstall. Not particularly cheap.

Next time I'll pirate before spending. At least ill know whether the game is worth it then.

Nintendo returns to GAME with Pandora's Tower Limited Edition

jimlufc

@andrewneilryan What a silly comparison you make.

5/3 more and you get the game game instantly rather than having to wait for postage. Plus you miss out on the inevitable card through the door meaning you have to drive half way across the city to speak to rude people to pick up package. After waiting 48 hours of course.

There are plenty of reasons to pick on Game, but charging 5 more for a new release than Amazon is not one of them.

Donkey Kong 3
Yoshi's Island
Chrono Trigger

Best three games of the all time in my opinion.

I actually miss the days where a new game was something to save up for. Something you would replay again and again because you were busy saving up for the next one.

Maybe I'm getting old and grumpy early but it doesn't seem the same with the kids these days, who are happy just to play COD ad infinitum.

Football Manager Handheld hits Android next week

jimlufc

I am on a self imposed SI boycott following what I thought was the disgusting way in which Football Manager Live was shut down after I had put in hour upon hour and lots of money.

However, I am also a massive advocate of Android and love Football Manager games so this could bring me back.

I just hope it's better than the PSP version, which is pretty awful to be honest.
