For me, BFBC is BF "lite". Smaller maps, smaller amount of players. Less vehicles.

After you've played on a 64 player map that's fully populated by people who are playing properly, you really don't want to go back to anything else.

Thats not to say I don't enjoy BFBC2, just that it's not the full fat experience.

@tjtj

To be fair, I think quite a few BF2 / 1942 / 2142 players (myself included) would be quite happy with just a BF2 with better physics, graphics and more maps. I personally wasn't looking for anything particularly groundbreaking, just more of the same, slightly improved.

On the right server, with the right people, BF2 64 player was that good, there wasn't much you could do to improve the gameplay.

Forgot to mention: the advertising campaigns go right over my head, as I can't see them.

I have definitely not played any other game as much as I played this.

User uproar over From Dust PC port

hollowroom

7 years ago

@Tankboi

Believe it or not, I have.

I bought Fallout New Vegas during the summer camp sale and got the German (low violence) version. It was only in German too. I live in Germany, but have always been able to change the language before.

They swapped it for another game.

It took them a while, but they were really helpful in the end.

Will you pay to play Battlefield online?

hollowroom

7 years ago

IF the servers were lag free
IF they were managed in such a way that griefers and cheats were kicked quickly
IF I had a guaranteed spot on the server.

THEN I would consider it.

I already did something similar with BF2 when a few friends got together and rented a server, and that's the reason we did it.

PCs have 10x console horsepower - AMD

BlinkeredAxis "TBH, I run mostly on console now, as ease of use outweighs all the faffing about with PC."

Well, I have a PS3 as well as a (5year old) PC. The PS3 is plugged into a 46" TV and can be played from a couch.

And I do 80% of my gaming on the PC.

Three reasons: It's easier (really), graphics are better and finally: keyboard and mouse.

3william56: "10 times as powerful, 20 times the cost. So?"

Bullshit. My PS3 was 300 Euro. You could buy my PC setup now for about 600 all in.

Homefront MP "outstripped expectations"

hollowroom

7 years ago

@rojjer

The reviews have been fairly damning, but mostly due to the short, scripted single player. The reviews that mention the MP mostly praise it quite highly.

you would expect them to read this and realise that good MP might be the only thing that saves them from taking a financial bath.

No mod tools for Battlefield 3 at launch

hollowroom

7 years ago

@bad09

This is my attitude as well. It's not a booking, but I will be watching them for the rest of the game, so to speak.

For me, I actually don't have as much emphasis on mods as I used to, mostly because I don't have as much time as I used to - I just want to plug and play. But it's still a sign of a "good" developer in my book.

DutchDemons

Dolphin diving is going prone in mid air while jumping/falling.

The lack of mod tools is a shame but not surprising. Too much money to be made on add ons, money that you won't make if thousands of modders are doing it for free.

It's a shame because some of my best BF2 moments were in Project Reality.

20,000 support disabled gamer's plight

hollowroom

7 years ago

As a disabled gamer (not as disabled as this guy) who has had to ditch a couple of console games due to not being able to remap the controls I say bravo to this guy, and I hope this makes developers at least think twice.

Also this is not restricted to consoles: many PC console ports have the same problems, the difference is there is usually an .ini file you can edit.

In BF2, the map scales to the amount of players.

effectively, you play on a chunk of the whole map.

@TheEarlOfZinger

Yeah possibly.

64 is a minimum for me, but having the destructible terrain and/or buildings will make it even more chaotic.

And it's chaos I'm after!
1 0

hollowroom

7 years ago

@TheEarlOfZinger

That's good to know. I still think that in the six years since BF2 they could have increased this further, but 64 is a good start.

Also prone and aircraft. Shooting down transport helicopters full of snipers is a hobby of mine.

hollowroom

7 years ago

If the PC version of this doesn't have 64+ player maps, I won't be buying it.

I bought BFBC:2 and enjoyed it for a short while, but it doesn't have anything like the longevity of BF2.

For me, it's purely because of the chaos of 64 player maps.

Battlefield 3 will be just as good on PC

hollowroom

8 years ago

My main worry with this is the amount of players that can be supported. I've noticed they haven't mentioned this in any of the press stuff so far (unless I missed it)

The best thing about BF2 is playing on a huge map with 64 players, squad leaders and commanders. If they don't meet or exceed this, then I will probably not buy it either.

BFBC2 is OK, but the maps are too small for my liking.

Willing and Able?

hollowroom

8 years ago

Wow. As a disabled gamer (double hand disability) this is a topic close to my heart. I stayed away from console gaming for a long time due to the inability of a lot of console games to allow customisation of the controls.

It particularly irks me when the game forces the use of the left stick, as that leaves me unable to use the left trigger (lots of driving games do this).

The PC has been a haven for me because even if the game does not allow customisation through the GUI or front end, you can always edit the .ini files. (I'm looking at you GRID)

I don't really want special treatment, just the OPTION to change it.

I'm concerned that GT5 will have the left stick issue: the real problem is, you don't know until you buy the game whether it's customisable or not.

Battlefield 3 officially announced

hollowroom

8 years ago

OK.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I actually liked BF Bad Company 2 on the PC, and have been a BF2 player for many years.

BF3 needs: Dedicated servers, community mod support, 64+ players (128 anyone?), very large maps and the ability to go prone.

Develop it for the PC and then cut the console version to fit NOT the other way round.

It's probably too much to ask given the financial realities, but if they do it this way, they'll have another 5+ year game on their hands.

Looks good, I was thinking of buying this.

Questions for anyone that already has this:

1.Can you remap the triggers to swap them round? Accelerator on the right and brake on the left? It looks from the movies like the brake is on the right.

2. Is there a "bumper view" or is it set as the third person view?

cheers!

Ubisoft: Our DRM will "evolve, improve"

hollowroom

8 years ago

"isnt drm EVIL! And isnt smelly a COMPLETE cock for disagreeing with you dicks who dont even buy games?"

Yes it is, and I don't care whether you agree with me or not. I reckon I spend about 150 to 200 euros a month on games, I don't pirate and I realise that this DRM is fucking awful, and more significantly impacts honest punters more than pirates.

By lumping everyone who disagrees with you as a pirate, you are being a bit of a cock.

I find Just Cause 2 unbelievably annoying to play with a controller. I would never like to play BFBC2 with one.

This is the first Call of Duty game I won't be buying.

I only buy it for the multiplayer, which has (since CoD2) been great fun.

As soon as I heard about the lack of Dedis, I just forgot about it. And here's why:

I'm one of the idiots that bought Operation Flashpoint2:DR on pre order: if that's the future of Multiplayer gaming, we'll all be nade spamming in Karkand on Battlefield 2 in five years time.
