How to fix Star Wars Battlefront 2
|
I'm truly appalled at this. I mean one of the multiplayer mission's objectives starts off with destroy the MTT'S MTT'S? MTT'S?? Not content with Lootgate, they're now ruining the immersion with bad grammar :o |

Star Wars Battlefront 2 loot boxes investigated by Belgian Gaming Commission
|
@Der_tolle_Emil 'We're grown ups, we should be able to make our own informed decisions' I think there's a healthy dose of kids who this stunt is clearly aimed at, and who aren't likely to make an informed decision. Which makes EA's decision all the more cynical. As much as I appreciate EA and Dice's output and spectacle, this practice will set the industry back if allowed to persist. It's not unthinkable for EA to remove this model or lessen the earning/ buying disparity, but until it's legally cleared up companies will be doing this in droves, and fleecing players in the process. |

Looks like the power lies with all these gambling authorities and government bodies. If handled correctly they could finally put these practices to bed, and discourage games companies from exploiting their customers for every financial gain. It would be a great thing for the industry, and actually give games back to the gamers  |

How community coders are remaking the best - and the worst - Sonic games
|
That Sonic 2 remake looks like a labour of love- about as good as it gets without compromising the original game. Truly outstanding work. Makes you think what other great franchises could be fan-made to a high quality if companies worked in tandem with these people's creative talents. |

Comparing the cityscapes of The Witcher 3, Dark Souls and Bloodborne to medieval paintings
|
Some of the Souls' landscapes are just stunning. I have been known to admire the view many a time. Boletaria was oppressive, drawing on medieval influences yet creating its own moody setting. We forget how well-made and beautifully crafted some of these environments are in these games, and I enjoyed reading this piece to give me a deeper insight into their historical backround. |

Why the SNES mini emulates more than just the console
|
@matthewbrown I agree, I think £70-80 is a fantastic price. £250- 300 won't be though, and as it's guaranteed to be the 'must-have' Christmas item I believe prices will go even higher than that. |

@saxxonde Haha yeah, I fear you may be right. It's been a good couple of years since I followed retro games prices, it looks like they've gone 'rather higher'! |

It's obviously a cool gadget, but as mentioned it's more for collectors if anything. You can likely get a SNES with several games for less.... Of course it's now become a must- have item, down in no small part to Nintendo's deliberate low production (same as with the Switch I guess) so as to keep interest sky high. It's unfortunate that many genuine collectors - and people that grew up in the 16-Bit era- will lose out to profiteering, greedy sellers. I highly doubt many will want to actually play the thing, any of the multitude of emulators out there will really do a better job. But as a collectable curio, the mini is right up there! |

Mass Effect Andromeda and the quest for great facial animation
|
To accept mediocrity from developers will end up harming the consumer in the long run, as well as the industry as a whole. This is a regressive output by a top developer and there is no excuse for such ropey animations and waste of a good story. Don't see why I'd have to make excuses for their shoddy workmanship when it's my money I'm paying for the product. Good graphics are a prerequisite on a $40 million game and it's not good enough. Worst part: don't expect EA/ shadow Bioware to improve the animations or bugs for the next instalments, I don't think customer feedback is terribly important to them! |

New For Honor emotes spark fresh debate about the cost of Steel
|
I think that attaining enough steel isn't too cumbersome, provided you play the game pretty much all of the time! You rack up about 40 per game, but of course the amount of multiplayer disconnects means that 50% of potential loot is lost. It's these server problems that drive players insane, and make me question whether Ubisoft intended its userbase to overlook grinding and take the easy option with in-game purchases:| |

Titanfall 2's buddy story is a very human kind of tragedy
|
I just finished the campaign, I'm no FPS veteran so I don't know how it compares to others in this genre. I loved Titanfall 1 so felt I may as well do the single player on this. It had nice flourishes here and there and was overall pretty fun. Was actually hoping it would reveal some of the new techniques like the grappling hook for example, prior to me attempting multiplayer  Having racked up over 2500 MP matches on TF1 I'd normally feel confident. Now I'm bricking it. |

With some luck players will get to select George Bush Jr. Special attributes include 'Declare War' which triggers automatically whenever speaking to another leader, 'Free Oil' which sees players plunder another nation's resources by moving troops into that square, and everyone's favourite 'Bush Speaks', a rare power that allows the player to construct nonsensical phrases that bamboozle enemy troops into submission for an easy Cultural Victory  |

What would you uninvent about modern games?
|
Any underwater swimming type levels should be erased from history. Always disliked them. Patches that 'balance' the gameplay in favour of lesser skilled players should go. Demos that are scaled back in the final release and look nothing like promised i.e Colonial Marines and co. Having to accept updates for games you're perfectly content with or face not being to play them as online connectivity is mandatory mostly. Online quitters who don't get penalized. I'll stop there before my keyboard explodes |

GAME blames low last-gen sales for pre-Christmas slump
|
I realize that this is their peak business around this time of year, but when I popped into GAME the other day there must have been at least 8 -10 members of staff loitering around three tills. You could see them visibly get in each other's way and it just seemed like overkill. Perhaps GAME's management ought to look at how they deploy staff. Back in the day it was three of us at Gamestation during the Christmas siege, it felt like something out of 300 but it was far better to have three competent staff than 10 useless ones running around like headless chickens! |

Isn't this what the Indie scene is supposed to be about after all? It's certainly niche and looks like a well- made title. Add the self- deprecating humour from the developers into the mix, what more do people want? Will certainly look into getting this, count me in! |

Inside Shanghai's hardcore gaming heartbeat
|
@cattypat Well that's the thing isn't it, these guys are at the heart of what arcades were all about, earning respect amongst your peers and a sense of comradery within a small group of likeminded people. To them it's all about an unspoken admiration and appreciation for the sub-culture they grew up with, not a single internet connection in sight. Contrast that with today's internet celebrity 'culture' and gamers' obsession with trying to attain some sort of instant acclaim. It's as if the videogames medium is just an extension of every other type of celebrity- whoring. It's like night and day I swear. I blame the internet lol |

@bone-on I see what you mean with Progear, it looks pretty nice. First impressions were U.N Squadron mixed with Metal Slug, been watching a bit of longplay on YT. Then I saw it was made by Capcom, it figures. Funny how some companies' style remains unmistakable, love it. Sounds like you have a cool setup by the way to get your fix! |

@bone-on I always appreciated the shoot-em-up genre as it was still a large part of the 16- bit era. So I've seen a few shooters come and go, generally been ok on them. But seriously Ketsui looks mental, those reflexes are otherworldly. Wonder what connoisseurs of the genre consider to be the definitive shooter, whether it's side- scrolling or vertical. I'm guessing vertical as it seems the purest form. Even judging by that video! |

Historical drama 1979 Revolution is coming along nicely in its latest trailer
|
Really interesting topic to cover, it's good to see it get some recognition. My dad's Iranian and he was slap bang in the middle of this when it happened, I was all of one years old lol. My mum had just married this guy, went to Iran with him. I can imagine her reaction would have akin to 'fuck this, we're leaving!' Good to see an insider's view on events and this game can only raise awareness for a whole new generation. And thank God it's privately funded, imagine if EA or Activision got hold of this, it'd be a a COD clone with added close-up execution moves! |
