I am a big Fallout fan and would have said any Fallout game would be a day one purchase for me but I never even considered picking up Fallout 76. I just have no interest in a multiplayer Fallout game. So if I am at all representative of Fallout fans it coming in at number 3 is not too bad. Even when it's eventually in the bargain bins I can't see me picking it up. The only chance it really has of me looking at it is if it's given away free on Xbox gold. |

Three years on, how does Bioshock Infinite hold up?
|
I loved the story and the world building was amazing but it really let itself down by turning into a relentless shooter. It was very jarring to be exploring Columbia and soaking up the world one moment and then a switch was flipped and it seemed all there was from that point on was shooting. I have to say I still rate it as a good game overall though it just could have been so much more. |

Samsung Galaxy S7 review
|
@TheTrueSpin Microsoft already have a Windows phone that does this. You just plug it into a docking station and it's a full PC replacement. We had one on trial at work for a couple of months though it spent most of the two months sat in a draw unused due to it being a windows phone and most peoples first reaction to that being it's horrible. In truth it's probably fine but people are so attuned to iphones and Samsungs that something that takes a minute or two to adjust to people balk at trying. |

Fallout 4 patch 1.02: the good, the bad and the ugly
| @riceNpea I understand they are looking for performance problems and so find them it's just not something I think always needs highlighting if a lot of people would never even notice. Still I am clearly fairly unfussy on this sort of thing so the fix is probably just a matter of me not reading these articles rather than EG not bothering to create them. |

Funny I have not really noticed the issues highlighted for XB1. I am about 20 hours in and have actually not noticed performance issues. Had one crash so far and that's about it for technical problems. Maybe I have just not visited certain areas that have performance problems. I do wonder about these articles sometimes. I think they make people look for things they probably would never have noticed if they were not pointed out to them. |

Watch: Five new things you can do in Far Cry Primal
| initially it struck me as an interesting idea. Then when I thought it about it more I realised its a Far Cry game with a very limited weapon selection. They are really going to have to do something special to make that better. Beast taming is really not doing it for me. |

Tropico 5 PS4 gameplay footage
| @ulikmegee I liked it on the 360. It's a pretty good game of it's type and really without competition on consoles. I certainly think given the games you listed you would most likely like this. |

UK chart: Shadow of Mordor biggest launch for a game based on Lord of the Rings
| Kind of surprised Forza Horizon 2 is not top as I could not find anywhere on the weekend that had not sold out of the 360 version. Plenty of of the One version in stock. I guess possibly they just did not anticipate any demand for the 360 version. |

Why isn't Dead Island 1 developer Techland making the sequel?
|
I don't think Dead islands success had anything to do with the trailer personally. The mass market took to the game and I am sure most of those folks never saw the trailer. I just think the game struck a chord because it was an open world survival zombie RPG lite game with a fairly serious tone. The market was ready for that game and Dead island was in the right place at the right time. I actually think it was a very good game. The atmosphere was great and it really had a nice edge of horror about it. It actually had environments I wanted to explore and stories to uncover as well which is a big element to what makes a successful open world game. Yes it was a little rough around the edges but it did a lot right. I actually think EG got it wrong on their opinion on the game and they are still pushing that opinion even in this write up. It sold well because of word of mouth from people who enjoyed it. |

Russian documentary uses Team Fortress 2 poster in WW1 propaganda report
|
In fairness if you look at a real WW1 propaganda poster some of them were pretty nuts. http://www.net-recruit.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/destroy-this-mad-brute-wwi-propaganda-poster.jpg It's only really the text of the fake poster that really gives it away and if English is not your first language I can see how you could miss even that. |

PS4 version of Dust: An Elysian Tail announced
| @Kremlik Such character types don't normal feature in lots of serious dramatic cut scenes. There are loads of these in Dust and they just don't work very well with such silly character design. Within the game itself its irrelevant. |

State of Decay: Lifeline review
| I wish they would get some technical help to sort out the engine. It really did effect my enjoyment of the original game as driving around should be loads of fun but the engine performance is so poor things like handbrake turns cause it to stutter really badly and pop in was terrible. I actually am fine with the way it looks it just needs a much smoother frame rate. |

WW1 dogfighting game Red Baron back with MOBA elements
|
Not sure about the mountainous landscapes that seem to feature quite a bit. They seem very like fantasy landscapes. They just don't look like real places. Also not sure on the colour palette. It's overly cartoon looking. I know you could say that about the original but it only looked like that due to the limitations of graphics at the time. It would be nice to see a more realistic look. |

State of Decay sells one million copies
|
I ended up being kind of disappointed in State of Decay. The game engine really was terrible and I got fed up of the game not letting me just get on and explore with house mate rescue missions constantly popping up. The premise is top notch though. If only they could license a better game engine and give you a little more breathing room to just do your own thing. This game in something like the Frostbite 3 engine would have been immense. |

Face-Off: Grand Theft Auto 5
| The noise from the optical drive on the 360 is probably going to be another factor. If you have a noisy 360 I can see that favouring getting the PS3 version. Disk noise on the 360 is odd though as I find it varies a lot between games. |

Curiosity cut the crap
| So how much time will the winner have to put into his god role? Being a god sounds quite time consuming. Maybe it's just a one off thing where he picks some rules for the game world and that is the end of their involvement. Would be interesting to know just what time commitment it requires as it occurs to me winning a commitment to giving up your time to some project may not have been something that everyone would have been up for. |

Avalanche Studios' mysterious steampunk sandbox game has been put on hold

Just Cause 3 would make a great launch title for the next gen. I would imagine given what Avalanche managed with Just Cause 2 this gen they could really take advantage of higher specs. I mean we know Just Cause 3 has to be happening so why so silent on it unless it's tied up with next gen announcements? This is of course wishful thinking on my part. |

Mind-blowing CryEngine 3 tech demo simulates real-life urban development plans

I think I have lost the ability to be blown away by graphics demo's. The last actual time I can remember playing a game and thinking wow the graphics in this are a great leap forward it was Doom. That really blew me away after Wolfenstein 3d. It just seemed to be such a massive leap forward. Everything since really is just progress by increments. |

Maxis looking into fixing SimCity traffic problems as complaints grow about pathfinding
|
I almost think weird rules that you have to understand to get things working is part of Sim city. I still remember trying to figure out how the water system worked in Sim city 2000. I think it actually turned out it just did not work but I certainly remember working at understanding the logic of the thing. The nature of some of these new bugs sound like they would take some pretty serious work to fix though. They seem to show up that the underlying rules are actually very basic and they would need to add lots of layers of sophistication to the AI routines. |

Microsoft's mission to put Kinect in laptops and tablets

Motion control in a device I am holding in my hand? Not sure I see the point of that. It's a bit like Siri on the IPhone. Yes it's cool but the device in my hands and it's easier just to let me use the interface. Motion control for me is most applicable when you are hands off the hardware. I can see it being of use for conference room type functions. Changing slides on slide shows and that type of thing are a natural fit. |

Gabe Newell lays out Valve's Steam Box plans
|
I have had to use a Windows 8 machine for testing recently and after having some issues initially I must say it's actually fine. Just go to the desktop view and its Windows. All the Windows bits and pieces are still there you just have to figure out where they have been moved to or what they have been renamed as. So it's pretty much like every major Windows release ever. I think as more people actually play around with Windows 8 it's becoming clear Newell's complaints are more about vested interests than anything. |

I actually thought the Watchmen beatem up was a fairly decent 3D update to the genre and it's the closest game I can think of to a traditional beatem up this gen. I know the game was extremely unpopular for some reason but I actually enjoyed it. This is part 1 anyway. Never tried part 2. Conan might fit as well as something of this type in this generation. It's actually a great little game. |

Splash Damage's new game Dirty Bomb shows off a war-torn London Bridge
| You don't see the Gherkin building looking that direction from London bridge. That makes it look like the Gherkin is on the south bank. It'also not that close to London bridge even if they did have it in the right place. So this is telling me actual accuracy to London may not be that close in this one. |

I cannot help thinking that filling out Wembley Arena with all the nut jobs and not doing something about it while they are all in one place is a wasted opportunity. Very interesting that MS can remotely break my One. I never knew they could do that. Just would assume I would end up with issues accessing online services not that the console would refuse to start.
