Pretty sports sim The Golf Club launches for PC, Xbox One

estoo

This has been on Steam early access for months, it's not bad at all. No licensed courses but an included course generator that means the community will have replicated tons of them before long.
It doesn't have much competition on PC so I can see it doing pretty well through word of mouth.

Star Citizen races past $50m mark after selling new space ships

estoo

@Bananazniper I get it, I just think you'd have to have a screw loose to fork out $150 for a ship you can get for free in the game when your only incentive is to fund development of flippin' alien languages in the game! The stretch goals are just getting silly now.

I paid my £35 last year by the way, I really want it to be a good game but the feature creep is getting absolutely ridiculous now.

Video: Road Redemption is a fun, erratic homage to a 90s classic

estoo

I played through the alpha a while back, there's not been updates in about 2 months I think and they said they don't plan another for a good while yet.

It was good for what it was though, although I did think the £20 price point was a bit high even for when its finished.

Tell you what though, the "It's raining cars!" level is stupidly fun! Can't see the video so not sure if it's covered, but it's exactly like it sounds. Utter madness.

Every step you take: The story of Minesweeper

estoo

On Windows 8 is it actually possible to play minesweeper inside a Window?
The stupid tablet-centric design pushes all the "apps" to full screen making a sly game of minesweeper at work no longer possible.
Not even sure why they still call it Windows.

I would be happy to be corrected about this.

Bandai Namco picks up Slightly Mad's Project Cars

estoo

@ozzzy189 It's a sim racing game. If the genre doesn't appeal to you, then you're probably not going to like it.

As an early backer I can confirm it will have several career modes in various racing disciplines. It won't be a car collector simulator like Gran Turismo with 25 different mx5's to collect.

It will be more accessible at entry level than iRacing, Assetto Corsa or rFactor but will probably not have the same level of multiplayer infrastrucure of these titles, especially iRacing.

Just my opinion at the moment, but although the screenshots and promo vids always look great, when in motion the graphics are not nearly as impressive. I have quite a high end rig and struggle to maintain 60+fps.

Still, it deserves to do well for listening to the community over various design decisions and I'm sure it will spawn a successful sequel or 3.

DICE ponders: what did people really like about Battlefield: Bad Company?

estoo

It didn't take itself too seriously.

It's probably the only FPS single player campaign I've played through twice in a row, just because it was fun. Call of Duty, Regular Battlefield, Medal of Honour... they all have that gritty "realism" thing going on and they are very grey/brown.
A bit bleak for my tastes, but then again as a man in his mid-thirties I'm probably not the target audience for these things.

Final Fantasy 8 on PC gets new and improved cheats

estoo

according to steam comments, this is riddled with Square Enix Official spyware, they sell your personal details (it's in the T&C's)and it should be avoided like the plague.

That, and it's way overpriced for a 15 year old game that hasn't been updated.

Watch Dogs patch fixes corrupted save files, online issues

estoo

@DwarfyP I know lots of people have struggled with stuttering and stuff, but if anything, the "worse" patch has improved fps and stability for me. I think the problem was mainly with Nvidia cards.
Optimisation certainly left a lot to be desired.

estoo

EG, you have so many Watchdogs articles, but I'd like to see you do a proper investigative piece into why they seemingly intentionally gimped the PC version to make the console versions look better.
The patch unearthed a few days ago which unlocks files already present in the game clearly bring things up a notch, why were they taken out?
It's a bit of a scandal, no?

It would take me 6 months to download that (even if it's only 30gb filsize zipped). I'm out.

Good to know, according to David Cameron, the UK (by which he exclusively means London as usual I suppose) will be getting 5G broadband soon.
I live in a decent sized town but downloads speeds are nowhere near being ready for this kind of file size. 700kB/s is the maximum I've ever seen for reference and that was at 3am.

I hear there's a thing called Netflix and other "On demand TV" that are supposed to be quite good too.

This is pish.

I installed classic shell on day 1 of using Windows 8 after I had to use google to find out how to shut down the flippin' thing (without using alt-f4 or ctrl-alt-del).
I've worked in IT for 10 years and couldn't believe such a a poor design decision was made.

Microsoft should remember that as well as young hipsters with their touchscreens, there is a nation full of office workers trying to use your OS as a workhorse 8 hours a day for which your tile lay out is nothing short of a fucking abomination.

F1 2012 Preview: Staying on Track

estoo

Classic cars and tracks would be an obvious way to expand the franchise.

A change to the frontend isn't a selling point in the slightest to me, just cosmetic drivel.
I bought the last 2 iterations on day 1 and they were both bug ridden, verging on completely broken. Patches took months to roll out and some issues haven't been fixed to this day.

No way am I buying this until it's like a fiver in the Steam sale.

The single best part of this is how they build the game based on user feedback. We can view and even participate in design meetings and give constant feedback which on the evidence so far, is being taken on board.

This is no Shift or Shift2, I really believe this is going to be massive, taking the best bits of Gran Turismo and Forza on consoles plus iRacing on PC.

It's really coming together in the last few weeks.

Battlefield 3 half price on Origin this weekend

@Mopzey

When you consider Louis CK made over a million dollars releasing his latest stand up show direct to the public through his website, no cut for retailers or distributors, no packaging or printing costs. It cost me approx £3 instead of the £15 other similar shows are going for down the supermarket. According to Louis he also has made WAY more for himself than he would have if he'd went the traditional route.
When you consider that... for digital distribution of games to be 25% MORE expensive than retail, the consumer is getting bent over and royally shafted.

I don't expect parity, I know that EA are the publisher and not the artist here, but it should still cost less than retail every time.

I actually took this survey.

Another thing that was mentioned was that you would need a subscription fee for 3G (to be expected) but didn't suggest what it would be, just asked what I thought would be reasonable.
Also gave hints at what they were considering for launch titles, don't remember much but I think there was a MGS and a WIPEOUT among 5 or 6 others, all current IPs. Don't know if this is news or not but thought I'd share.
