For me, mid 90's playing Wipeout in HMV as part of a national competition and being number 1 for a few minutes.

Gaming glory, if only short-lived.

Angry Birds 2 review

drivenstorm

@abeeken So well put. I had precisely this feeling after trying Plants v Zombies 2.
The first game was a great GAME. It was fun and charming.

Then the sequel came along. Horribly bloated with some new ideas but virtually impossible to complete unless you started coughing up real money. Bought one item to see how it would effect the game and I still couldn't progress.

Deleted and I've avoided freemium ever since.

This is the most fun game I've played in years. It makes me realise how few pure videogames there are. Suddenly I find what really makes me giddy with joy is playing this and Geometry Wars Dimensions Evolved.

@MummyMan It could be interesting to have a pilot experience that required skill to land or take off. But then maybe it can become automatic later on if one tires of it. Think docking computers in Elite.

The God who Peter Molyneux forgot

drivenstorm

@joeymoto108 This is a good point. Though I wonder how much talent he has left. He definitely shouldn't be the guy at the top, he needs strong management and clear boundaries. Like a child really.
Then again it's his company so he'll undoubtedly fuck it up.

@Dabs I'm sure it's been mentioned before but he's the M Night of the videogame world.
So wish some old fart like me had won it because putting some impressionable teenagers through Molyneux's bullshit endeavours and promises is really beyond the pale.

I'd have asked for 10% and walked out in a huff when rejected.

And really 22Can guys if you're reading? You fucking freeze two teenagers out while taking them to the pub? What kind of retarded social skills do you have exactly?

Destiny thrills, but the big picture rings hollow

drivenstorm

@hcipro Yes I didn't get much satisfying feedback from the beta.
I thought with the new consoles we'd see more ambition in the things the player engages with rather than fleshing out some IP before it's ready to go.
I'd have liked to see better AI with enemies suffering injury, hiding, others helping them etc.
That sort of detail would make the encounters, of which there are going to be many, much more varied.
Bungie seem to have left "30 seconds of fun" far behind.

UK chart: BioShock Infinite flies to the top

drivenstorm

Good to see the game doing well.

One minor source of irritation with the game is how they chose to hang so many actions on a single button.
Reloading, receiving salt from Elizabeth, searching and other actions are all on X (Xbox version). During fights this can be annoying when you want to perform one specific action.

BioShock Infinite review

drivenstorm

@dcangel There's probably a few games where I've done that. With a bit more digging you discover what's underneath the surface.
With Bioshock just taking on a Big Daddy on hard difficulty was great.

drivenstorm

@dcangel I replayed Bioshock several times. If the richness of the world, the atmosphere and the different combat approaches weren't sufficient you might be a tad picky.

drivenstorm

@jaguarwong Well the prose comes first on Eurogamer.
Actually are there any alternative review sites that actually mention mundane things like control schemes, are they remappable etc?
Despite Bioshock being superb and one of my favourite games I was astounded that you couldn't switch the sticks. As a leftie the only way I could play the game was with a modded controller.

Angry grandfather walks out of HMV with three games after staff refuse to accept gift voucher

@darkmorgado They basically did that years ago when they failed to adapt to the changing retail environment.
Also a question - if these sorts of moves do keep them alive, what kind of relationship are they building with their customers? At the end of it all a loyal customer base is what they will need to survive.
