Burnout Paradise Remastered review - driving perfection

cyber_nicco

After reading this I know almost nothing about what this new version brings to the table. I mean, has anything changed? Did they add a proper hood or cockpit view?

"everything's gone into delivering the smoothest of frame-rates and the sharpest of edges" is about as close as this author gets to telling us anything about the game, but even that is extremely vague.

Not a helpful review.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance review - history is a double-edged sword

It's really not a problem if there are Africans included in the game. It's really not. It's only an issue if you decide to make it one. Besides, it's a work of fiction and I'm damn tired of the over-eagerness of the (well intentioned) PC police.

Oh for God's sake, anything "free" from a business is trying to accomplish something - even if it's just trying to garner good will. Besides, if the "free" stuff was included in the base game it wouldn't be free anyway - it would be part of the game you PAID for in the first place!

It seems silly to argue over what constitutes free.

@S2riker I'm open to letter grades, but keep in mind that there are actually 13 different grades when using plusses and minuses.

I think they should just go back to the old system but try to grade on a curve - so the score for an average game was more like a five...

Elite Dangerous patch notes accidentally references horrific United Airlines incident

cyber_nicco

@kangarootoo Well, it's true that the airline is behaving horribly by having had that policy (I think they changed it now), but you really can't have everyone constantly practicing "willful defiance" (stupid language, but they use it). Sometimes we have to go along with authority and fight it in an appropriate manner. I mean really, if I get asked to leave a pub or restaurant or something for no substantial reason, should I really expect to be able to tell them to fuck off and not expect to be physically removed (and likely charged with a trespassing offence)?

@Perjoss I have a medium to high-end machine (I7-6700k, GTX1060), but not a super machine my any stretch of the imagination, and it runs (almost) flawlessly for me. I have had a handful of crashes, but I've overclocked things a fair bit and always assumed it was me pushing my hardware a little too far.

I've had really good luck with all my games running well under Win 10, with the first Crysis being the only game I couldn't get to run at all.

Are 4K visuals really the best use for Project Scorpio and PlayStation Neo?

Look, 4k looks great, but I'd rather have outstanding 1080p visuals over mediocre 4k any day.

Eurogamer has dropped review scores

cyber_nicco

This is total baloney, and I can't believe you suckers are falling for it. All they're doing now is making the scale, essentially, one to three instead of one to ten.

"How should we score an excellent game with severe networking issues? A flawlessly polished game with a hackneyed design? A brilliantly tuned multiplayer experience with dreadful storytelling?"

I don't know, but I'm going to guess they will all be "recommended". It's really just a way to duck the heat received for some of their ludicrous scores. One of my favorite aspects of Eurogamer was getting to see the silly scores and hear the comments. Now we get crapload of "recommended" with a smattering of "avoid" and "essential". By the way, "essential" is such a pompous way to score a game anyway.

And this whole notion that games have changed in some fundamental way (or ways) that obviate the old scoring system is nonsense. Patently ridiculous.

Look, I'm winded just by thinking about how stupid this is, so I will leave with only one last comment. If Eurogamer no longer has the balls to score the games and stand by those scores, then just thow out scoring or labelling (recommended, etc.) the games entirely. Just write about the game and leave it at that.

"It's not historically accurate!"

cyber_nicco

You know, I agree with the whole idea of not "historically accurate" is a silly reason to keep female protagonists out of games. Unless, of course, a game is trying to make a point of being historically accurate.

That being said, your references seem to be less than stellar. Certainly not up to academic standards. For instance, your argument that Viking females were warriors too links to a blog that links to a USA Today article that says only that in one case swords were found at a burial site that appeared to have only female bodies. The gist of the article was just that it seems that more Viking women than was previously supposed accompanied the Viking men on their English invasions.

To be clear, I'm not saying that the women weren't] warriors. It's just that I get a bit irked when things are presented as factual, when the truth is much murkier.

"Thats made me a happy bunny and no doubt put a spanner in the works of Forza fanboys who were hoping it would be a 6 or 7."

Just because EG gave it a 9 doesn't make it so. They gave a 9 to GT5, and I have to say from first-hand experience it was maybe a 6 when it came out - maybe an 8 when they finished with all the patches...

You know, I'm a little tired of Eurogamer scores. No, really. They go on and on how the scores don't really matter, but know that to many, many people they do. I think they do a genuine disservice to their readers - and to the industry in general - by scores that don't pass the most cursory sanity check.

While I enjoy the writing and the information, I'm starting to believe the scores are really used merely as comment-bait to boost their rankings and increase advertising revenue. It's just so below their general standards that I don't know why it's allowed to persist.

"The only reason they make Kinect an essential part of it is advertisement. They can even measure your pulse-rate for god sake! They will bomb the Dashboard with ads and kinect will measure your reaction and respond accordingly by shoving products down your throats!
"Would you like to buy this DLC for $5 - no? How about this bundle for $10!" *pulse goes up* " here is the same bundle and we throw in another month of free Xbox live! *DingDingDing* We have a sale!
That's the whole reason they also wanted it to be always online - so they'd get immediate feedback! Consume and obey foolsRoOhDaMite

Are you suggesting that if it could determine what I want and give it to me at the price I want to pay for it, it would necessarily be a bad thing? I guess it is a bit unnerving.
