20 years on, the Tomb Raider story told by the people who were there

comradetony

@Bratterz

We just briefly chatted on Twitter about this - I currently live in one of these apartments. Interestingly when I was buying the property, the letting agent didn't even know its history, despite me knowing its previous inhabitants were Core Design. It gives me a kick living in a piece of gaming history!

The Pride Park offices used to house Derby College after Rebellion moved out. Again, despite the college having a popular Games Development course (I worked for the college for several years) , they were blissfully unaware of their heritage! They have since moved out as you say in the article.

As you mention in the article though, it does feel that as time goes on, Derby is beginning to embrace its piece of gaming history.

(Basically, im hoping for a blue plaque ;) )

Star Fox Zero review

comradetony

Hmm. I've never played Star Wing since the SNES version many moons ago. I do still love it though. Is it worth me jumping in despite having no knowledge/experience of the other games since? I didn't even know they existed until this review. (Sorry!)

Three Playable Lords? I'm assuming this will likely be Khorne, Tzeentch and Nurgle. Because Slaanesh never gets any love these days. *sniff*

I'd genuinely love a similar thing to this but for the Amstrad CPC. Oh... and with HDMI support. I love the concept however, even with its flaws.

Played this for an hour, then uninstalled it. Can't complain really as I got it with PS+. Think i'm getting old, as I can't stand this sort of stuff :(

Sorry, Microsoft, but you can't own Minecraft

Well, I did win a copy of Hero Quest on eBay, perhaps that's why I don't play Minecraft at all.

Destiny thrills, but the big picture rings hollow

comradetony

Have to say I'm really enjoying it so far. That said I utterly disliked Borderlands 1 & 2 so maybe I'm the flip side of the coin from some folk.

Now I'm sat at work waiting to play more :(

Who framed Roger Ebert?

comradetony

I didn't know who Roger Ebert was until now. I did a bit of research, and it turns out he didn't like Die Hard. I think this gives me enough information to dismiss this mans opinion on pretty much anything.

EA's Origin ditches physical discs

comradetony

Hmmm. I tend to buy Origin and Steamworks games via physical medium still. Two very simple reasons.

1: As mentioned above, if you care to shop around you can find the discs at quite a lower price than the online stores of both. Not counting sales obviously!

2: Some of us in the UK (and I presume abroad) still have awful internet connections. That's despite living in a City Centre, too. It still takes me a good hour or more to download 1GB. A disk gives me a fighting chance to actually play a game straight away, rather than waiting literally a day for something 15GB plus.

I get that I am a minority (1% indeed) but hey - this affects me.

The Dota 2 Experience, Part Two

Loving these DOTA2 commentaries. Must admit, our group jumped into a Vs Human match without even getting the basics down.

Now I know how medieval people felt being hung, drawn and quartered. :S

Still, love this game!

Is there any Chariot-related events? No? Sod it then. Emperor Theodosius knew how to deal with Olympics.

Men of War dev making post-apocalyptic open-world RPG Nuclear Union

Colour me interested. I'd love Fallout to explore other parts of it's Post-Nuclear World. Until then this sounds quite nice indeed. Paradox & 1C are pretty much my favourite devs these days.

Civilization 5: Gods & Kings Review

@darkmorgado It's not turn based, but Crusader Kings II certainly has the intrigue you mention. Also has a Game of Thrones mod :D

I'll end up getting this just for the Byzantine faction. I am weak.

Ah, the Amstrad GX4000. I remember a friend getting one for Christmas and bragging to everyone how cool it was. We had SNES and Megadrive by then. We lost contact soon after that. I'm convinced he either went on a killing spree or did himself in.

Game of the Week: The Witcher 2

Warsaw? Eastern Europe? I wouldn't say that too often on Poland. Central Europe, if you need to generalise.

Geography rant aside, great choice. Ive got both The Witcher 2 and L.A Noire, and I am going to have to make the decision on which one to concentrate over the weekend... The Witcher 2 seems to be winning.

This reminds me a little of an old PC game called 'Crisis In The Kremlin'. I.E Whatever decisions you make - youre screwed.

Hoped for more political decisions (For example, democracy/totalitarianism - and their effects upon environmental decisions), but hell with it - i'm off to Steam to buy it :D

New PAL Releases Roundup

comradetony

Just went into my local blockbusters to pick up Silent Hill pre-order on the Wii, and they say its been delayed a week. The Wikipedia Article reflects this, however play and Amazon both say 'In Stock'. Gonna send the missus into town at dinner to check Game/HMV, waited far too long for this to wait another week!

Heavy Rain seems good on the other hand, noticed a bit of audio stuttering occasionally, but otherwise im enjoying it!

UPDATE: HMV said its officially released next Friday... but they are breaking release date if people ask!
