Why Activision closed Bizarre

I blame greedy Bizarre senior execs who saw a chance to get rich by selling to Acti. Business is business, and business for them was offloading it a price and letting the "brand" take its chances.

Inappropriate editorialising is what I see here. Comments like that from the games press contribute to the death of the "rpg" format, and then can be recycled as as a woe-is-me editors' blog post about the death of the genre later.

Pick it up.

Dragon Age Ostagar DLC tomorrow

ccfb

The size of the wider experience is kind of irrelevant when you consider that, as a consumer of the content once already, you are being asked to purchase it again. Let's not be tempted to forgive Bioware some obvious cashing-in on their considerable development expenses by releasing a portion of the game you will have already played through once as paid-for DLC.

Oh, and some people like to objectively discuss this stuff instead of being puleld into meaningless arguments :)

UncleLou : "Please. Complaining about stuff being "deliberately removed" from a game as unbelievably massive as DA is a bit silly, really."

One thing has got nothing to do with the other. DLC sells and people are buying. Makes sense to re-use existing assets and tweak them with a bunch of quests etc if people perceive they are getting a "bargain".

ACII DLC was originally part of game

ccfb

I'm not really in a "break-giving" mood when it comes to publishers and developers reporting they had to make cuts due to time. I am one of those cynics that knows ALL publishers see DLC as a very lucrative way to generate more revenue and keep their games from being traded in.

So, to my eyes this is very much like the Dragon Age thing where you've got merchants reporting DLC for purchase in the game, only without the price ticket attached, and I will be voting with my wallet.

Perhaps it's becuase Ubi is both Developer AND Publisher that makes me think this way, but something like the Trials DLC that's coming just seems a bit more genuine somehow.

Ubisoft details Assassin's Creed II DLC

ccfb

"My point is that the DLC in no way changes the value of the game I have already bought, just by existing."

I wasn't saying that. I feel you're arguing with yourself :)

Also, to expand on my value judgement comment, a lot of people will include their perception of when the content was developed as part of that judgement. It seems to me a little unfair to call that childish.
1 0

ccfb

The only way I personally would feel hard done by is if I bought this DLC. I don't intend to buy this content becasue I feel the content in AC2 is sufficient as it stands.

I was merely saying I'm happy some people still question the policy decisions of these publisher/developers, and continue to realise some content is being withheld at release.

The value judgement is always going to be down to the punter.

"I love paying extra for stuff that should have already been in the game."

"I love reading this same tired shit over and over and over. "

As much as the original sentiment is poorly expressed, I'm glad someone is still questioning slot-in paid-for DLC to fill in the blanks left in the retail game deliberately so content can be sold after release. And anyone who thinks this content wasn't developed alongside the retail release is being naive.

Retroid : "Another point to make with these things in the game is that there *will* be consequences for all of it in the story. "

skillian: "You are playing Arma 2 with an Xbox controller? Bugs are the least of your problems.

edit: OK, if it's for flying choppers then I am being a dick."

To be fair you're being a dick anyway. The game demonstrates a high level of support for the xbox pad, even down sticking the proper button graphic images in the menus and so on, but regardless of how I CHOSE to play, the basic implementation of the Y Axis is still broken and that shows a stupid lack of attention, in my eyes, on foot, in chopper or in vehicles.

Call it symptomatic, and shove your perceived "problems".

If this allows you to actually play a co-op mission without the objective marker pointing to a guy who's already dead or where your commanding office doesn't keel over halfway through a briefing, or any other number of the host of bugs that plague ArmA2 (such as invert Y axis not working with xbox controllers) then it will already be superior.
