Watch: Seven games we'd love to see remastered

brommers

@redcrayon Nothing obscure about it. It's a game i've been playing on and off for years. I also would love a modern day version or another sequel (not that god awful fps one....shudders) but i doubt we'll ever see one. I dunno, the success of the modern xcoms could entice some higher-ups maybe.

XCOM 2 gets another two mods from Long War Studios

brommers

@nottorp The timers aren't that bad. I was originally skeptical of them but they actually don't really hurt that much. The intention is to push forward and in that, they work. There are mods available to extend and outright remove them if you really feel the need. Unless you're waiting for console?

I preferred the Xbox original version. More detailed textures, longer draw distance and custom music spliced with adverts. Only problem was the black and white buttons were look left and right. Kinda made shooting and driving an art of contortion.

Borderlands 2: new character Krieg the Psycho, level cap increase, Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode

brommers

I'm not behind gearbox for this one but it isn't just a level cap they're selling with this piece of DLC. It's the pearlescent rarity and UVHM. It's cheap enough to warrant a browse and if the guns are up to scratch maybe worth a punt.

To the people aggrieved by the frequency of PM articles on here: Chill out. The EG team actually quite like the bloke and as boastful as his claims may be regarding his games, he comes across as a nice fellow but let's just jump aboard the molyneux hate train for the sake of it. Sheez.

Borderland's 2's next DLC is Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt

brommers

@DanForinton Don't get me wrong, I do like it (hence the 200 hour playtime...at least) but for some reason I just find it boring. I still put the first one on from time to time (no rose tinted specs here)but with 2, I only seem to fire it up when a new 'episode' hits. I'm not the only one in that camp. When it first came out I absolutely adored it but that feeling has long waned.
Like UtherDoul, it's that incredibly low drop rate on the best gear. I stopped playing MMO's because of the endless grind. There's only so many times I can 'kill' something before I lose the will to live.

Sony: New racing wheel peripheral has "double the accuracy of a DualShock"

brommers

I find the 'double accuracy' a little weird. Turn left on a stick-Full 90 degree lock, turn this controller upside down-Full 90 degree lock. Maybe it's a bumper car peripheral. Turn 180 degrees-Drive backwards...?

I kinda like the look of the thing but, as stated above, without a central pivot (guess you can macguyver one) it would get rather tiring using it.
For the people this is aimed at (precision controls) that'll be the biggest problem. Couldn't see myself doing a 4 hour GT marathon and still be able to move my arms.

Glad to hear it. Such a game breaking bug in this day and age just seems weird, although, not unique.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon

brommers

After the demo i came away feeling 'this is not air/ace combat'.
As others, i've been a fan from day 1 (first experience of air combat was nigh on unbelievable back on ps1),but i feel it's just too gimmicky.
The control system was the first thing that really threw me off and the DFM, while kinda cool at first, soon grated.
I couldn't see myself sitting through 4+ hours of this let alone buying at FULL price.
It's a shame, had really high hopes for this. The tagline 'metal will bleed' and the early videos got me excited but now...?
No thanks namco

Rock Band 3

brommers

THIS>>>
Been playing RB every friday (and more) since it's release. Got me back into learning the real guitar, though after a year i still kinda suck at. Got the keyboard bundle on pre-order as my very large midi board is a little TOO big to keep bringing out the cupboard. Spent a whopping amount of money on the ION plus DM6 module so shall be getting the midi attachment for that. What i am hoping for, apart from all the greatness that is RB is to further increase my skill on the guitar. Though i've heard pretty bad things about squires (spelling?) i'm willing to wait and pay out for the pro guitar. Mustang just seems a waste of money for someone already learning the real thing.
One last thing...LONG LIVE ROCK BAND

Going back to the interview with the team they were talking about how lighting can have a massive impact on graphical fidelity ( an opinion i completely mirror. Just look at some of the screens in GTA4, thay can look damn impressive at certain times of the day), so bullshot or not, with criterions new lighting model in place this game is gonna look mighty impressive.

PS3 is "on fire", says EA's Schappert

brommers

I play both in equal measures.
Don't really get this fanboy nonsense. It all comes down to the games in the end. Just finished a marathon couple of months on bordelands with friends on the 360 and now i'm playing white knight chronicles. I'd still say the voice features are superior on the 360 (the ability to carry on a conversation while the game is loading is a god send) but the ps3 is adequate. So i couldn't really give a toss whether EA or acti align themselves with a particular machine. It's all about the games in the end and i'll play them all.

ME2 Overlord DLC priced, dated

brommers

I feel the same way as some in that. ME2 left me feeling a little underwhelmed. To this day i still talk about the first like it was real. I mean, even down to the little details like the descriptions of weapons and the mass effect drive, though 2 had them i didn't really feel inclined to delve that deeply into the universe. I completed 2 and enjoyed it but havn't played since and all this now payed DLC is not enticing me back to it anytime soon. Unless, like many have said, a big story based dlc or indeed an EP.

@anomagus
You raise some good points to which i also agree but the impression 2 left on me was not very deep at all.

Exploiting Rock Band Network "isn't easy"

brommers

The toolset Harmonix provides is not overly complicated. transcribing the tracks is relatively easy and sound balancing should be on all bands agendas anyway. The hardest part i find is, as kangarootoo suggests is the animation and lighting cues as there's quite a lot of fiddling and testing. i've had a good few months to get my head round it but since it's only just gone to open beta there hasn't been much in the way of tutorials unless you were one of the lucky few who got into the closed beta. in summary, a little time and effort is all it takes and for those with the cash these sort of companys could do well for themselves. i may even enter into this buisness myself.

Tekken 6

brommers

As others have said the juggling kinda puts me off. Playing 5 on the hardest setting was more a game of luck as to who got in that launcher first. The AI would just bounce you off the floor, off the wall, off the floor until your health depleted so your strategy just immitated this. i do like Tekken but feel it's lost its way a bit. Hope this turns out to be a bit deeper.
