Star Citizen, I am disappointed

bristolmunkeh

Played Alpha 3 at the weekend. Flew down from orbit above a moon, across a cratered landscape and landed. Got out, ran around a bit, gawped at how cool that felt (even with the crappy framerate issues) and then got back into my ship. Entered the bed in the back and it prompted "logout?" so I did.

Logged back in the next day expecting to be there on the surface of the moon? Well my ship certainly was. Problem was I spawned on Port Olisar and had no way, that I could find, to retrieve my ship. The option via the terminal was not present and an insurance claim did nothing.

Basically I could either hitch a lift (I tried stealing someone else's ship but they appear to have 'fixed' that and the door wouldn't open) or fly 65,000km at 2m/s using my suit jets. I didn't have that much Oxygen.

I uninstalled, will wait for Beta 1 I think. Ironically by the time that is released I might be able to play it on a PC in the back of my own ship on the surface of the moon, so sometime around 2158?

PewDiePie launches weekly Twitch show, as advertisers back away from YouTube

bristolmunkeh

I don't think YouTube is over yet. Still seeing plenty of ads on the channels I watch, mostly WoW related these days.

I have seen a big increase in the number of 'creators' pushing Patreon as a way to get more direct funding from their audience, which I guess works. The few I've been inclined to check out seemed to lock away too much content behind unnecessarily high paid tiers of subscription.

Not sure I'm ready for that, I pay enough subscriptions for things like streaming TV services, Sky and whatnot.

The exception was the WoW channel 'Taliesin and Evitel do games' who basically asked for whatever you could afford on Patreon, grateful that anyone would even consider subbing that way. I then felt bad I subscribed for the princely sum of $2 a month.

Recommend you check them out if you're a WoW player though - genuinely amusing which is quite rare.

Get the price point right, combine it with decent battery life and Nintendo look to have a winner.

Not trying to compete with Sony and Microsoft is the right approach.

Now please make a good StarFox and PilotWings for it!

Exploring a tiny galaxy filled with jerks in Stellaris

bristolmunkeh

I found a precursor cybernetic civilization that appeared to have gone on a rampage through the spiral arm killing all fleshy species 600,000 years ago.

Naturally my scientists wanted to poke the ruins for technology, when I preferred nuking it from orbit before the inevitable Reaper invasion. It's the only way to be sure.

Around about then Earth was wiped out by sentient space slugs with impressively large warships. Sigh.

Start over, now THIS is a game :) I need to finish Uncharted 4 still!

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End review

bristolmunkeh

This is literally the reason I bought a PS4, because after playing the first three games on the PS3 I had to see where it went. My wife will attest to the Uncharted games being unusual in that they hold my attention right through to completion.

That said - some of the wording at the end of this review hints at how this game ends. I realise I'm extrapolating from your actual comments and applying them to the games title...but I think it's time to stop reading about this game and just wait to play it as spoiler free as possible.

That actually looks good. I'm shocked!

Now they just need to add a LAN mode, so you can cart your PC over to your friends house, so you can hear the "bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzsplat" noise your chainsaw makes coming from their speakers across the room.

Amazon marks GTA5, FIFA 16, Minecraft and more as "exclusively for Prime members"

bristolmunkeh

Odd choice by Amazon, I don't see how it's workable because people will just buy elsewhere.

It's not acceptable and I'm saying that as a prime customer already. I've cancelled my various PS4 pre-orders I had with Amazon and will get them elsewhere, I know that makes absolutely zero difference to anyone, let alone Amazon, but it's my tiny protest!

Total War: Warhammer developer "disheartened" by pre-order DLC reaction

bristolmunkeh

I really want this game but wish developers would release finished games, not endless DLC - especially launch DLC.

For that reason I'll just wait for the inevitable steam sale which will include everything for 25% of the price 18 months down the line. I know that's not a good comment for developers but still...

World of Warcraft, nine years later: Can I get a res?

Similar sentiments really, lasted until the end of WOTLK. Came back for WoD and enjoying it, albeit at a less time consuming pace.

Downside is I don't know anyone now and the community is a little...toxic...in places!

Ironically this has increased my interest in the upcoming movie adaptation.

World of Warcraft was a defining game of its generation

bristolmunkeh

@Rayn

Just wanted to say thanks for writing that comment. I'm another ex-Draenorian and recognise every single guild you listed, although I played Alliance up until mid-TBC (before re-rolling horde side after my Wife convinced me I really should be a Tauren warrior.)

I still play WoW but it's nowhere near the same, despite still being an accomplished game. Oli is correct, there was something magical about exploring the world and making lasting friendships with the most random people.

I miss that game, something that can never return as it was almost entirely defined by the people in it at the time. The Lunar Triangle, Phoenix Legion, Shadow of Dawnsong and many other groups of people I've had the pleasure to play alongside over the years. Group hug :)

Hmm, I think I can smell onions too...

Xbox One's Game DVR feature is limited to Xbox Live Gold members

bristolmunkeh

@Baihu1983 They've specifically said multiplayer and the instant game collection are behind the paywall.

Services like Netflix, browsing, chat etc don't require it. Free to play online games can be either outside the paywall or inside it, at the publishers discretion.

I don't think they've gone into more detail at the moment, but Microsofts announcement might prompt further info.

What happened to Guild Wars 2 on console?

bristolmunkeh

The only downside to cross platform MMO's is that they tend to segregate the player base by platform.

What I'd like to see would be players online together regardless of platform, playing in one persistent world. Until then it's always going to be a bit of a roll of the dice as to whether your chosen platform proves popular or a ghost town.

Not sure how feasible that is though.
