Looks amazing! Biggest downside is not the cost of the set, but the fact that each player will need their own Switch?

@Scottoest I agree with you to some extent - it does feel slightly that we are veering into continued outrage for diminishing reasons.

HOWEVER - none of this stuff, from the clear mis-truths of the E3 reveal to the bug-ridden game to the collectors edition issues would have been a surprise to people inside Bethesda. The level of silence does very much feel like a deliberate strategy to ignore it and hope it goes away. Which it won't.

So maybe continued negative coverage is what's needed to get someone senior at Bethesda to actually step up and apologise to fans.

Destiny 2 Journal of the Reef Cryptarch quest steps to unlock Thunderlord

@kesouk I guess that's RNG! As I've been playing pretty much since launch day, I have naturally got most of the exotics for my 2 characters - although I still haven't done some like Whisper of the Worm, or got all the catalysts. If you play for long enough you can get most exotics from Xur.

I guess I was comparing D2 to D1, where some of the best exotics were only available in the Raids, and then they were still random. The initial launch of D2 was over-generous with exotic engrams, but that has since changed, with more exotics now requiring quests and challenges.

In D1 the best exotics really did feel over-powered and therefore materially different to normal weapons. IMHO D2 lost this difference in a lot of cases. It is getting better tho!

@UKRaver1980 You need to go to Amanda Holloway who is the NPC in the hangar area of The Tower. As I started the quest a couple of weeks ago i'm not 100% sure if it is time limited or restricted for new players - I doubt it tho.

Waaaaaay too easy to complete. Nice to have a classic weapon back in the game, but once again devalues the fact that exotics are meant to be 'rare'.

But for casual players or people just coming to the game now that it's free on PC it will give them something fun to play with.

Warmind, Destiny 2's next expansion, launches next month

I'm hoping for more depth through the update, but as we all now realise, D2 has some fundamental flaws that don't look like they can be fixed. But it's not as bad as people are making out :-)

What it really needs is another Raid. Story missions, strikes and Crucible maps are all well and good, but it's the Raids which are really at the core of the Destiny community. If it's true that there is no new Raid until the end of the year, then I expect the player base to further dwindle.

Destiny 2's upcoming 6v6 Iron Banner sounds exactly like Destiny Crucible

breakablepants

@SiroccoJetProp Yeah, I worry that you are right - once you've lost the playerbase, I don't see updates and tweaks bring people back once they've moved to other games.

I can't see Activision investing in D3 after what's happened with D2.

Big, big year for Destiny. Feels like there is a limited window to get many players who loved D1 but were disappointed in D2 back on side.

Sadly, I don't think anything Bungie does will be good enough for the most vocal of the disaffected.

Bungie talks Destiny 2 future after week of "tough criticism"

breakablepants

@Killerbee totally agree. These fixes are probably welcome (once I work out what the hell they actually mean) but a lot of it sounds like it makes it even easier to acquire items - which has been one of the biggest criticisms.

The game pretty much throws Exotics at you, so I don't see the logic in now being able to get even more. Ditto adding a new weapons tier that gives you some element of random roll - that you can re-roll. Sounds like it re-introduces the whole "god roll" element, but without the need to grind for it.

This all feels like fiddling around the edges. I sincerely hope that the DLC gives them a chance to make some more fundamental changes to the balance. Right now the game looks and plays brilliantly, but is pretty much soulless.

Destiny 2 clan claims Leviathan raid world first, new PVP map unlocked

@TheRealBadabing In Destiny the Raids have checkpoints, so you don't have to do them all in one go. Once you get the hang of them they typically take 1-2 hours to complete.

Your progress / saves are reset every week, so you effectively have all week to try and complete them.

Yes, they really are worth it. They are designed around communication and cooperation, so it's proper teamwork and not kids screaming obscenities into a mic.

Before Destiny, I would never use a headset when playing, and I don't play MMOs etc where it's common. But for Destiny it's essential for the Raids, and without exception i've only had positive experiences. Deffo a gaming highlight for me.

It's OK, effectively a very polished version of Destiny 1. But nothing super-amazing - not that I would expect them to give away the best stuff as part of an open Beta!

@Zepthire this isn't about new players - this is about keeping the hardcore fans engaged. For people who have reached the 400 light level cap (which seems to be most people I see in the game these days). The hardcore are also the most likely to have already completed all the raids, so this is to give them a new challenge to obsess over ;-)

Personally I'm really looking forward to doing the Raids again, as I've only done them a few times each and they are definitely the highlight of the whole game.

Destiny 2 launches autumn, will be "more accessible to casual players"

breakablepants

@Roflcakesale Sorry, my mistake - I confused it with the Destiny LFG thread on Reddit;-)

I can see the validity of a lower skilled version, but then isn't that essentially what a strike is?
1 1

breakablepants

@Roflcakesale But the whole design of the raids means that checkpoints generally require all 6 members to get something spot-on. Anyone who's done any of the raids will have had those evenings where you spend 2-3 hours trying to get past a single puzzle or boss because someone on the team is struggling - jumping puzzles in Kings Fall is a classic example.

Maybe we are both saying the same thing - I agree about a LFR function, just not auto-matching the same way as strikes do it.

@dwalker109 It's a tough one, I've had plenty of times where I've struggled to find people to do Raids with, but equally I would not want to do a Raid with randoms. They require so much teamwork and a decent level of skill that you do need to put some kind of filter in place. I do think that they will add ways to improve fireteam recruitment and player matching, but I'd be really surprised if they give Raids the same random matchmaking as strikes.

breakablepants

@AgentDaleCooper @superfurry

I think it's more likely that they will build the community hub into the game so you can organise fireteams as you play. Bungie have always maintained that Raids are about organised teamwork and there would be huge pushback from the hardcore that make up most people who complete the Raids. So I think they'll just try and make organising things simpler, without going fully for random matchmaking.

What the article above doesn't say is that Apple have dismissed Newzoo's 3% conversion number, saying it's higher than that.

$27 million in one month is still pretty good, the only issue is that as it's not a F2P game there is no chance of recurring income, to the game is going to drop down the 'top grossing' charts pretty quickly.

breakablepants

@number1024 while I share some of your frustrations - I rarely have time to complete a raid, which means I've only managed Kings Fall 3 times - matchmaking with randoms just isn't the solution. It would create so many mismatches, people who rage quit and ruin it for everyone else, plus you absolutely need to have mics on for a raid.

What I think would be better would be to add some kind of community messaging into the character dashboard, to allow people to message other players who are online. This was in the original game (not implemented very well) and seemed to be taken out when the Dark Below was added.

@WilhelmvonOrmstein it's been widely discussed that the next full game - effectively Destiny 2 - will not support least-gen consoles.

I think it was essential to support both gens on launch in order to get the community to critical mass from the start.

Bungie president out less than a week after Destiny 2's reported delay

breakablepants

@matthewhaycock I think that the fundamental problem is that they were unprepared for the size and obsessiveness of the fanbase. There is a LOT of content in Destiny, but the hardcore players get through it within days of it coming online. That's creating the problem of the most loyal players also being the ones complaining the loudest about the game stagnating. It's the success of the game that has created the problem - not any actual major flaws.

There's been talk on the forums about the problem with the game engine being hard to develop with, which has slowed down updates and also caused the delay with Destiny 2.

Agree that the way the community communication is being done by Deej are really not helping. You would have thought they'd have learnt lessons after the shitstorm over the TTK pricing. Just give us information without trying to wrap it up in clever language - and maybe give us more insight into what the Dev team is working on. Waiting until it's all finished is great, but when it slips and you don't tell people then they understandably get annoyed.

Activision acquires Candy Crush company King for $5.9bn

breakablepants

@freaqie whilst I don't disagree, the $18 a share is a lot less than the $22 a share at the time of the IPO - so they could view it as a 'cheap' acquisition.

The fundamental weakness of King is that so much of its revenues rely on Candy Crush - can't necessarily see what Activision would do to change that, and it's not like Activision doesn't already publish its own mobile games.
