Best prices for Kingdom Hearts 3, Far Cry New Dawn and more
|
@ZeroAbbadon huh, that's gone up since yesterday. Was £65.99 when I linked it. Regardless, it's also cheaper on SimplyGames and Shopto, so the exhaustive search that lead to the Argos link still missed quite a few beats. https://www.simplygames.com/p/kingdom-hearts-3---deluxe-edition-ps4 |

| Um, that's pretty much the highest price I've seen for the KH3 deluxe edition anywhere. You don't even have to look hard, it's cheaper than that on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingdom-Hearts-3-Deluxe-PS4/dp/B07DPW42SH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1546955350&sr=8-1&keywords=kingdom+hearts+3 |

Understand that MS and Sony could well refuse the whole deal, because still Ubisoft and the likes would need a platform to release their gamesThey could, absolutely. Unfortunately, they are competing businesses and that's not really how things work. Sooooo... The way you put it, it's like Sony and MS are prostituting themselves to have Destiny in their consoles...yeah, they kind of are. |

| @Sober-Si you're right, it could well end up being the case that NX only does modest business outside of Japan. That scenario could still work out very profitably for Nintendo, though. |

|
@Sober-Si how can you possibly know the NX won't have mass market appeal when it hasn't even been officially announced yet? On paper the Wii was an underpowered piece of crap with a gimmicky controller, but then word spread about Wii Sports and it sold gazillions. And none of the top 15 selling Wii titles were third party games. The implication that third party support was instrumental in the Wii's success is somewhat misguided, to say the least. |

@grassyknoll give up, fella. You're absolutely right but plenty of people just can't see beyond "I wanna play Zelda on my PS4" and the assumption that all N need to do is throw out a super-powerful brick selling at a loss and watch as third parties and $$$ come flooding in. Selective memory as well with the N64/GC "heyday" much? N64 famously struggled to retain third party support, and with GC they threw the kitchen sink at it, putting out a very powerful machine, only for it to sell poorly and cause devs like EA to throw the towel in anyway when their games sold miles better on PS2. It's precisely *because* of those consoles that N have the strategy they have today, focusing on hardware that's profitable from day 1 and with marketing centred around the first party games which are always their systems' biggest sellers - even in the SNES days, the last console which had comprehensive third party support. The supposed direction of NX makes total sense, but plenty don't want to hear it because they fundamentally want N to go software only. Which is absolutely fair enough, but dressing it up with the notion that a PS4-beating Nintendo console would automatically dominate the market is just total nonsense. |

Two weeks on, has the YouTube CS:GO Lotto controversy changed anything?
|
@tomphillipsEG Him being booted from the show may not affect his personal situation much, but it's still newsworthy that one of the country's largest gaming expos is giving a named-and-shamed scammer a platform to promote himself to thousands of people IMO. You're right, though, it is crazy this sort of thing doesn't attract more legal attention. If this kind of stuff was on a Saturday night TV game show it'd be front page news (and has been) with enquiries launched. It shouldn't be brushed under the carpet with a "oh well, they're too big to fall, everything will just go back to normal" kind of attitude. |

@tomphillipsEG As editorial content is never influenced by commercial decisions, are we likely to read criticism of EGX for inviting a known scammer to sell his merchandise at their show?Any comment on this point? |

Combat fatigues: How Uncharted is a walking simulator in action game's clothing
|
@BetterCallPaul I think what they were trying, poorly, to articulate was: Most of the time, *when you are in a bit you can fail at*, it's third person combat. Half of the game, overall, is devoted to action scenes. That's my guess, anyway. |

HTC Vive review
|
@CaLeDee absolutely, although progress in technology isn't going to make people's houses bigger though, or make people more willing to move furniture around to make space. This is definitely exciting tech, and I'd bloody love to try it out, but this kind of room-space VR will always be niche by definition. One of these games has a 4mx3m *minimum* space requirement, that's just ridiculous. The mass market future of VR will live or die by the fortune of the seated variants, Vive is an outlier that may well end up finding greater success in public spaces than it does in the home. |

Fallout 4 Season Pass currently free on UK PlayStation Store
|
@Dogwalker No worries fella, apologies from me too for being a bit of a dick about it! Yeah a lot of times stores, especially big ones, will honour things like that as a goodwill gesture. Normally pricing errors in places like supermarkets tend to be fairly minor, as well, I guess. I reckon if I went to my local Tesco and a £40 copy of Fallout had a £0 sticker on it, it'd probably raise an eyebrow at the till. Or I hope it would, anyway! |

@Dogwalker an oft-referenced and entirely inaccurate myth. EDIT (for clarity): stores that price items wrongly by accident are under absolutely no obligation to sell them to you at that price. In fact, they're under no legal obligation to sell you anything, for any price (even the correct one). However, if you've bought something for a certain price, which then turns out to be wrong, the store also has no legal right to get that money back off you. In that scenario, the mistake has to be honoured. Not sure how that applies to a scenario like this where said item was digital and said incorrect price was £0.00, but I imagine Bethesda would know their legal rights before revoking a bunch of licences. |

HTC Vive priced at $800
|
@Fourfoldroot the price is extremely high for sure, but they've absolutely made the right decision to offer everything bundled together as the only option IMO. If they're serious about the motion controllers and room trackers getting any real traction, they have *got* to be bundled in. The costs will come down over time, and if the concept takes off they'll have a single unified consumer-base that will be appealing to devs. A cheaper, headset-only, bundle would split up their users, put devs off the more expensive peripherals, and likely kill the controllers they've invested a lot of money in dead in the water. There's always Rift (and Star when/if that arrives) for those who want a headset-only option. |
