PC has an HDR support problem - and Nvidia wants to fix it

abczyx

Your TV is not a particularly great HDR TV, but the colours should be a little bit more vivid and definitely shouldn't be washed out. I'd presume this is a software issue.

Nintendo is finally releasing an official Switch charging stand

abczyx

@isaacredfield I'd have bought that too, but I think that would dilute the marketing appeal too much. It'd be a bit like having a laptop that's permanently chained to your desk.

I'd personally have preferred if they'd made a more powerful regular console, but I guess this way we'll enjoy more games because there's no way it would have sold as well.

Square Enix announces date for its E3 digital showcase

abczyx

I hope it's pre-produced. I've generally preferred the Nintendo conferences for this reason. Conferences are pretty redundant with the advent of mass online streaming and I feel as though the pre-produced stuff flows better and has less wasted time.

GeForce GTX 1080 back in stock at Amazon

abczyx

@Jenuall Is that a big deal? Nvidia's $300 product went from being a 970 to a 1060. They still had a competitive product at that price point, it just didn't have the -70 suffix.

I think they did it because they didn't have a product in that $450 price point in the 900 series a the jump from 970 to 980 was quite steep. Now (in theory) they have a better offering of cards at more price points. Both the 1070 and 1070Ti fill the gap.

@bunnyxuk Because retailers in the UK already discount heavily from RRP from day one and the margin doesn't exist for that scale of promotion. Selling at £45 like many games do is already an 18% discount.

"It's true Steam Machines aren't exactly flying off the shelves"

abczyx

@FilthyAnimal Whilst I agree the improvement wasn't entirely down to Steam, there was definitely a point in time during the early 360 era where support for PC from major publishers had declined. A lot of titles didn't make it to PC and those that did often had poor performance or poorly thought out DRM "solutions".

In my opinion, Steam and other storefronts/clients have been part of the reason why PC gaming is a much more viable force now than it was 8-10 years ago.

The biggest game installs: can anything top Final Fantasy 15's 148GB on PC?

abczyx

Yeah, I just checked and my X Plane 11 folder pretty much fills up my 2.7TB drive. Some people have much bigger sizes than that. Mine uses scenery that covers the US, a bit of Canada, South East Asia and Western Europe at varying quality levels.

It's still great value even if you buy equipment. A 3TB Tosh 7200 drive is 67 quid on Amazon and the quality is really good. Buying good scenery commercially would be a lot more expensive.

@tomphillipsEG If you want an actual answer, then the Ancient Rome IIII was more common but both forms were used.

IIII is more common on clocks and watches. Some proposed explanations are that IIII requires fewer molds to produce the actual numerals, has better radial symmetry, is less likely than IV to be confused with VI and that Louis XIV (or XIIII) had a personal preference for it which may have influenced others.

Wes, they aren't cutscenes. They are "Dynamic News Clips Powered by Frostbite".

The same press release also claims that quick subs are new to FIFA. Not to be too pedantic, and I do understand why EA along with the rest of the world wants to forget this game, but the grotesque deformation of a product that was Road to World Cup 06 on the Xbox 360 had this feature.
