@WMain00 Seriously. An 11 year-old should not be playing Destiny. Or any first-person shooter, really.

@WezH I don't feel remotely abused. On their track record so far, I'll KS every game they make. I threw $65 at this title sight unseen because they'd earned that much goodwill.

Halo 5 lets you turn off sprint and other Spartan Abilities in custom games

Yossarian

The problem with just switching off sprint is the maps are already designed for it to be on.

It's irrelevant anyway, since 343i already turned me from an avid Halo player into someone who will probably never own an Xbox One, but they still just don't get it.

Video: The Witcher 3 is the Game of Thrones of video games, and here's why

Yossarian

I love the idea that fantasy is Middle Ages English by default. Thanks, Tolkien.

The Witcher should have Polish accents. In the absence of Polish accents, it can be whatever the fuck they want it to sound like. I guess it's too much to ask Eurogamers to stop being small-minded parochial English twerps for two seconds, though.

Football Manager 2015 review

Yossarian

I got banned from the SI forums this year for being snide about how badly they broke the ME following FM14. The latest update seems to have made significant improvement, but I'm still stunned by how hostile their attitude is to criticism. Most of what's been said on their forums about this year's game is echoed in this review. I wonder if they'll take the criticisms more seriously coming from a major review outlet.

6 is a deservedly mixed score for the beta version, at least.

We cannot let this become gaming culture

Yossarian

@MrFlay The NeoGAF conversation about GamerGate has broadly been more heartening than what I read in EG comments sections, actually. I don't know why Eurogamer folk continue to think NeoGAF is somehow beneath them, since the level of discourse is more or less equivalent (in fact, it's probably more diverse on GAF). It sometimes smells of anti-American jingoism.

@jabberwoky If you care deeply about some of the "issues" raised by #GamerGate about media bias and accountability, then start up a separate movement that specifically addresses those things without all the toxic baggage.

As it stands, your little 4chan-astroturf movement is tainted root and branch by both implicit and explicit distrust, resentment, and active hatred for women. I'm sorry, but if you scratch at the vaunted cause even a little, it stinks. Top to bottom. And everyone knows it.

@Kendrene Feminism isn't monolithic, but the kind of radical feminism you're vaguely characterizing here is such a tiny minority of feminist thought that you could as well say civil rights in America shouldn't have been pursued because some militant activistsadvocated for black supremacy in place of white supremacy. It's a whiff of smoke trying vainly to cover massive, sprawling injustice. And it's a distraction from the main thrust of this debate, which is that women shouldn't be brutalized and threatened for pointing out glaring inequities in how they are treated.

The "man-hating" feminist is largely a caricature created by patriarchal forces precisely to sabotage feminism. In so far as there were and are actual man-hating feminists, their thinking is so extreme because they believe moderate, incremental progress has not got us very far. And on the evidence of some of the responses to this story, they're right.

If nothing else, #GamerGate has served as an incredibly efficient mechanism for finding out who on Eurogamer (and other gaming sites) is either deeply confused or actively hateful about the role and status of women not just in videogames and videogame criticism, but in the wider world we share.

I have to say, I've been unpleasantly surprised by some of the names in the ignorant and/or hateful bunch.

Seriously, though, stay out of lockers. They're just coffins with twin doors. They're where plucky Amanda goes to die, when she's finally lost the will the continue. Don't be the sad, quivering protagonist of your own short mortality play. Leave that locker behind you and head towards the beep.

I certainly prefer the world and character to The Walking Dead Season 2 right now, but in game terms they've been taking step after step backwards. Tiny vs Big: In praise of Titanfall's smart pistol

Yossarian

The smart pistol is great for farming the grunts quickly when you first spawn; after that, you pretty much have to play stealthily for it to work. Go head on against someone competent with an actual gun and you will lose.

Which is good, because it would be cheap and tacky as fuck otherwise. It sort of is anyway.
