Was a bit worried for how tactlessly this might've been implemented, but looking so far it seems to be handled better than their corporate entertainment crossovers.

Outriders dev says Square Enix yet to pay it a royalty fee

I wouldn't even mind putting down the money to play the single player campaign if only they allowed it to be offline: at least the Avengers game for all its flaws allowed for that. Otherwise it's just a ticking countdown towards an inevitably unplayable file when the servers are cut off. It's the feeling of having nothing to show for your money at some unspecified point in the future that is such a huge turn off to me at least.

Players are turning off Cyberpunk 2077's film grain to improve console visuals

XsjadoBlaydette

Mate, I'm always turning off film grain anyway, it's an ugly filter that gets in the way of plenty of artists' hard work, and I cannot understand the "AAA" obsession with always having it on. It doesn't improve anything.

Like Ryse: Son of Rome and The Order 18whatervydoos, this is fated as the typical rushed console launch exclusive - quickly made and paraded through the shallow waters of fancy graphics tech demo to give early adopters a sense of validation that their new machine is best boi purchase. Destined for the bargain bins of every Asda within 6 months.

It looks like Marvel's Avengers failed to do the business for Square Enix

XsjadoBlaydette

@jonc24 There was also a fair bit of mishandling and bad press from Squeenix before release, including attempts at dodgy pre-order promotion, inclusion of unnecessary microtransactions, unnecessary multiplayer in a prominently single-player IP, leaks of how little faith they had in single player games and consoles, leaks of how they split the narrative in two...it goes on. Sales success/failure is not as simple as you seem to claim it is unfortunately. And with Cyberpunk generating as much hype as it has lately, there is no excuse to fall back on such lazy reasoning.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon review - Yakuza goes JRPG, for better and for worse

XsjadoBlaydette

@45709 I think you may be misreading a simple musing intended as a constructive criticism for a bitter damnation. Critics are paid to dissect as it is, it's literally their job description. It didn't read to me as if the writer was that bothered by it, just that they thought it could be improved upon and may be to some people's distaste, just like when GTAV came out, many critics brought up the unlikeable actions of the protagonists while saying it wasn't a deal-breaker for them, but might push some other people away. It's just a critic thing, i see it in film reviews too, trying to speak to a variety of different people at the same time...nothing to take that harshly really.

These really aren't good deals. Would've thought a corporation as ethically challenged as amazon would at least try to push the boat out for their self-fellating "consume here" day to actually challenge people's resolve. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time review - a flawed gem

XsjadoBlaydette

Should be noted that this is activision and they cannot be trusted to not add microtransactions after review periods these days. Looking at the game's legal waffle, it states "Mandatory updates may be required to play" and "offline play 'enabled'" as if it's some temporary privilege too. I sense some form of post-review monetisation for sure.

It was impressively bad. *sigh* Alright, I'm done here. Thanks for hearing me out. Continue as you were! And remember to vote!
