Sega's fifth Make War Not Love event lets you play a bunch of PC strategy titles to win free games

Tyranix

'You'll be able to download and play Endless Space 2, Total War: Warhammer 2, Dawn of War 3, and Company of Heroes 2 for free during that time.' I may be being stupid, but I'm not seeing the option to play these for free during the promotion?

@RSX901 To be fair I don't see any problem copying PT. it will never become a game in its own right and gave a glimpse into what incredible things gaming can do with the horror genre. I don't blame Capcom for capitalising on that - it's not like Konami has.

What a beautifully written article, this is game journalism at its best. A small comparison with the modern sims games and how they compare would have been nice (nice?) but overall a very nostalgic look back at one of the greats that still remains relevant.

Thief review

Tyranix

Ah the age old 'if it's not at least 7/10 I won't even consider it!' conundrum.

Although the written part of the review was highly critical, to be honest there was nothing there that sounded particularly game breaking. For example, game of the year The Last of Us had shockingly bad AI in places and wasn't bashed for it. Looting cupboards and containers all day doesn't put people off Skyrim. The lack of options on how to tackle situations didn't stop Call of Duty getting high marks and so on and so forth.

As a huge fan of Thief 1 and 2, I'm not defending the game - I've always been sure it would be decidedly average. But 6/10 means just above average, not absolutely terrible.

Hearthstone survey hints at potential new features

Tyranix

zhunter's comment is completely untrue. The game is more than playable without spending any money - indeed several of the top ranked decks require little to no 'expert' (first booster set) cards at all.

Also it does not take long to earn 150 gold (for an arena ticket). You get an easy to complete daily every day (40-80 gold) and get 10 gold for every three games yo u win.

As for these hinted at features, I'd be excited for pretty much any of them.

New PlayStation 4 pre-orders no longer guaranteed for launch

Tyranix

This was always going to happen. It has been so long since a big console launch (sorry Wii U, I love you and will keep hold of you, but you're not doin' so good) that people have forgotten the mad stock shortages and Christmas rush that accompany them.

With the PS4's extremely competitive price point, lack of controversy (see X Box One) and pedigree name that managed to survive the PS3 era, I'm not at all surprised by this.

Cool story bro: I remember the Playstation 2's launch...stock for that was like gold dust. We had to pre order over half a year in advance at Dixons plomping down some ridiculous non-refundable deposit just to get it at launch.

Blizzard considering in-game micro-transactions for World of Warcraft

Tyranix

1) World of Warcraft has had micro transactions for years, the only difference is these are in-game not on the Blizzard store.

2) How is this Enduring Elixir of Wisdom any different than the ridiculous number of heirloom items that have been available in the game for five years? They're very easy to get, increase your exp and no-one complains.

I do love the gaming community's absolute hatred of anything that involves real money, no matter how reasonable or unreasonable it might be.

BioShock Infinite review

Thief 4 hero Garrett less "gothic", more "mainstream"

Tyranix

"...even though the Victorian period feels really gothic."

o_o Do these people even know what the word 'gothic' actually means or are they just using it to describe anything that's alternative?

Oh wait they are appealing to the mainstream and 'modern console gamers', yeah now it makes sense. I cannot describe how much this kind of talk annoys me as a fan of all the previous Thief games, but from the footage the game still looks good so hopefully they'll pull it off.

Wreck-It Ralph movie review

Tyranix

This review is having more of an identity crisis than the movie. It complains about the lack of video game references past the first half an hour and then suggests it lacks coherency... I ask how coherent the film would be if it became a novelty gag reel aimed solely at gamers?

Do I wish there were more appearances of bowser and sonic and the gang? Sure. Do I wish there was about twenty minutes less of Sugar Rush? Yep. But in my opinion the film really comes into its own PAST the first thirty minutes: a heart warming tale of paternal love (itself a game reference perhaps considering how many games are churning out that theme effectively at the moment) that rises above Toy Story levels of "HEY look here's another toy from your childhood, oh and another!" to become its own flawed but enjoyable gem of a film that is one of my faves of the past few years.
