Its wierd that this site always has tons of articles about the current fifa, but then that series hasn't served up one memory worth sharing for the last decade lol.

EA Sports opens up about FIFA 20 issues and outlines upcoming fixes following player outcry

TheMilkman

I got the ten hour trial for this and started up a career mode. The matches you play are simply boring.

I just dont get it. If you take the addictive progression of FUT out of the picture you soon realise it's not a good game. Goals just dont feel satisfying.

It's been on a steep downward spiral since '14 imo. Nerfing crosses/headers to create a sharper skill gap is so stupid. Just make crossing more manual. It also hurts single player because it eliminates that play style.

FIFA 20 review - fun football foiled by a stubborn refusal to read the room

TheMilkman

The battle pass does make sense here.

I really want to like fifa, I've been a huge fan in the past, but I went off it about 2 years ago.

If you just take a step back from the gratifying FUT grind, and really analyse the gameplay, it's a million miles away from what football is. You have to play the exact same style all the time to be effective. High press, pace, and fast passing. Nothing else ever works in fifa. Slow build up possession style doesnt work. Long balls have never been good in fifa, even if you have a huge centre forward to knock it down it's just never an effective way of playing.

As a result I ended up getting sick of it. Theres always a clearly defined meta, and it's always the same. Pace, first time passing and pressing.

Companies waved the Pride flag but gaming is still far from queer inclusive

TheMilkman

When did everyone decide the word 'queer ' was ok? It almost makes this article seem like a parody how often that word is used.

A word that literally means 'odd' or 'unusual', and that's the acceptable word to use to describe homosexual people?

I guess we do need to do better.

I swear the shooting thing is already is the game, minus the trainer. Maybe it's different but if you time the double tap on fifa 18 you get a power boost. Turns it into a daisy cutter.

Far Cry 5 review - a competent yet conflicted open worlder

TheMilkman

@CheekyRobo Nobody writes a book to just fill the pages up though, they do it to tell a story. So that's the primary focus of the book.

A games primary goal is to entertain through gameplay/interactivity. Some games may be more linear and story driven, and use the narrative to drive the entire experience, and some just use it as a framework to keep the player invested in the world/sandbox. Far Cry definitely falls into the latter category.

I'm not saying the story shouldn't be judged at all, I'm just saying I think this review goes over the top with its analysis of a story which isn't going to be that important to the people who would be interested in this type of game.

@Spence1115 I must've missed all this marketing. There was some stuff about a main character that happens to be American but nothing that said to me, 'oooh we're gonna lampoon trump!'

Then the rest of it was - look at this mental map editor! We have a zombies dlc! A Vietnam dlc! A mars dlc!

I didn't see this marketing everyone's on about saying this was gonna be the new thin red line.

TheMilkman

@CrashOkami Couldn't agree more. The story and characters are just a reason for the sandbox in a game like this. They aren't the primary focus.

The history of violence buried deep in Far Cry 5's landscape

TheMilkman

@jebus I wouldn't bother going too deeply into the themes and message of a segal/van damme movie though. Which this is kind of the equivalent of.

I could understand an article like this analysing hellblade/spec ops the line or something. Far cry though? I just think of flying a unicopter bombing people from above with a grenade launcher. I don't really think it's meant to be any more than that, they just chuck in an interesting villain and setting to give a reason to the sandbox. I don't think they are trying to say anything with it to be honest.
3 2

TheMilkman

I don't get it to be honest. Is any of this even relevent?

This is a really (well written) deep analysis about a game where the main purpose is to let the player blow things up in the most fun and spectacular way possible. It's not shakespeare.

The Division update 1.7 adds global events and loot boxes

TheMilkman

@Killerbee Agree. Plus the gameplay wasn't on the same level.

The division had a ton more depth than destiny so you will always get those that like creating a build etc loving it, but ultimately that's a much smaller population of players compared to people that just like to casually shoot things in the head, and that's what destiny does so well.

Destiny: The Dawning event returns Sparrow Racing and Icebreaker

TheMilkman

@AgentDaleCooper nah, it'll be worse than that. They would be described as missions. 'Quest' in destiny terms is to just do a few things that are already in the game in a certain order and you get a shader or something.

Still, I liked sparrow racing last time so I'll play this.

FIFA 17 - the football game where you're better off letting the AI defend for you

TheMilkman

@Joonlar Totally disagree there. The collision engine in FIFA is better than it was but it's still pretty terrible with players just stupidly running into each other and knocking each other over. The ball physics aren't the best either. General passing and shooting is ok, but every ball interaction feels like it's tied to a player or the touchline - you never see the ball just stop at a random spot on the field, it always has to go to a 'result' situation. I think that's why people complain about scripting, it's simply because the ball physics often look really dodgy and it feels unfair.

Long balls too. They just look wrong imo. Like you're booting a fly away.
6 2

TheMilkman

@jabberwocky Couldn't agree more. I really liked the tactical defending from fifa 12 up to 14, but they have taken more control away from defending every year since.

Pes is absolutely brilliant this year, it's a tragedy it's sales are down.

Destiny: Rise of Iron review

It just feels like fan service. It's not going to attract anyone new but it's put out to make some dosh and keep the current players happy for a while.

It's a worry how they have taken a step back in terms of leveling up though. I do think the events they do will make leveling easier hopefully.

FIFA 17 review

TheMilkman

@Syrette Normally I'd agree, but for me the fundamentals in fifa are bad enough that it's not worth continuing.

Most years I'd want to give it a while to judge, but just from the demo fifa felt really poor to me this year. You need decent Base gameplay for it to be worth finding the nuances/problems. It just doesn't have it for my money.
