@Rosetico From what I've played the IGN review is right on the money, it's just a visually updated version of an old simple arcade game. It's not going to win anyone over who didn't have nostalgia for the original and it's not come up with any interesting new ideas.

No idea how this is essential. Just played through on Game Pass and it's just like the old one with a couple of new enemy types. The art isn't that interesting, the netcode is a bit laggy and the gameplay is insanely repetetive, just like the original. How can a game that plays it so incredibly safe and still doesn't do anything very interesting or get everything right get an essential, then something that tries to do something new and different like Predator Hunting Grounds gets such a scathing review? I sort of assumed your new scores were like 'avoid' if it's unplayable, nothing if it's fine for massive fans of the genre but nothing special, recommended if most people would like it and fans of the genre would love it and essential if everyone should love it because it's a masterpiece. This game is probably good for people who absolutely love this quite niche genre and have nostalgia for the original. Hardly essential playing for anyone else. |

I wrote up a long thing about this a while ago and what I think it means for the rest of the series. I really like the idea that the title might be a play on words: http://geekypastimes.co.uk/video-games/opinion/ff7-remake-ending-explained/

Doom Eternal review - the same orgiastic thrills with a creeping weight of story
So the campaign (what most people will buy the game for) is one of the best we'll play all year, but the game isn't recommended because you think Doom should be more than it is? I feel like this is another example of Eurogamer's odd judgements where they want to write a feature about an element of a game they're interested in rather than letting us know how good the game is at what it's actually trying to be. You can just do features and reviews separately.

Overpass is sort of a strategy driving game

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot review - a celebration of the anime dragged down by subpar side content
@StormbringerN from what I've played so far it just makes the game easier. If you are good at blocking and dodging, you don't need to do any side missions after they've been explained in the tutorial type part, but it will make some of the later fights quite difficult.

Xbox Series X rear port set-up revealed in new prototype leak
@Nova_Blue I think if the Series X (and PS5) are using the speed of the hard drives as a feature for game development you might not be able to use USB hard drives anymore, they're just not fast enough so some features of games wouldn't work (streaming data when moving quickly across a map for example). As the article says, it might be that the long slot is for expanding storage. Hopefully it won't be a proprietary solution.

Dying Light 2 delayed to unknown date
|
@aldo_14 I think this might be the reason for a lot of these delays. Companies set schedules before the outcry over crunch and now they're working out what is realistic while keeping crunch to a minimum. It's a good thing for everyone. |

AMD admits it used a fake Xbox Series X 3D model in its press event
@the_ewan then they could just use the official images that have been provided? They didn't have to have a 360 spin around an unofficial fan made 3d render. Surely they realised people would be interested in what the back of the console looks like.

This super realistic Dreams fry-up is making me very hungry indeed
@Bosh I'm pretty sure this is all in Dreams, it has loads of different components and you can make materials then use them in the game-making part of it. I'm really impressed with the lighting though, I'm assuming it's all pre-baked (or fried) on.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo leak spills spoilers for full game
@markturnbull I think sometimes there's strange dependencies that would break the game if they weren't there. It's not really worth the time to develop the demo as its own game and close all of those off, so it's easier to just put in a lot of the game and block off the bits you don't want people to see. It's risky for sure, but the alternative is no demo, rather than a properly independent demo.

Games of the Decade: Hotline Miami - filth, fetish, and the only video game parable

Infinity Ward nerfs Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's dreaded sniper shotgun again
@Return-of-Jafar I think Gunsmith is the most underappreciated thing about the game. It's a great format for eSports/streamers, is always balanced and the maps are great.if they add an in game league/ranked mode I don't think I'll play anything else.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order review - solid combat mired in shallow storytelling and technical problems
@spamdangled I'm not sure if his post is about representation, I think it's more than it's hard to make an interesting character of the same type as so many other lead characters in Star Wars (Anaki, Obi Wan, Luke, Han, and Kylo are all white guys) and it's a shame when you have so many other possibilities. We could have played as a new race or something we haven't really focused on before in the movies, could have been an interesting new perspective.

@gabortoth that's weird because when I played the Jedi Knight games (and Dark Forces) I was a child and coped fine with them, they were definitely made for youth, as you say. This has a lot more depth to the combat then those. Mostly because the enemies are an actual threat. I'm really impressed with the style and tone as well, it's recognisably star wars but with loads of its own ideas. Maybe you should actually play it? |

@Dysisa I agree. If that was clearly the approach or it was consistent. If this review had started or ended with 'if you like Star Wars or Soulsborne game you'll have a great time' it would be different.

@Menage00 from my first 5 or so hours with it, on the Xbox One X, in performance mode, it's really jarring when you're just wandering around, the framerate constantly drops for seemingly no reason ( I think it might be loading in new areas) but in combat I've never noticed it.

@Minardi On my Xbox One X it still has performance issues, even on the 1080p mode. It hardly ever gets a steady 60fps.

@Gutterra The map makes routes really clear though, if you're looking for a shortcut, you're definitely meant to use it because it highlights unpassable (yet) routes in red, passable in green, and unexplored routes in orange. It's super useful to avoid backtracking.

@snafu65 But it does seem strange that this year Eurogamer has a tendency to put people who are unlikely to like a game in charge of reviewing it. People who find Soulsborne games difficult, or who don't seem interested in Star Wars, reviewing a Soulsborne Star Wars game for instance. The indies get a reviewer who is specifically into that particular type of game, while the reviews for most big budget titles are like 'yeah I'm not really into these and didn't like it'. The Death Stranding review was the rare mix of putting someone who was prepared to like it in charge of that review. |

Need for Speed Heat review - a slight return to form for the series

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare review - punchy gunplay in a camper's paradise
@SevenOutOfTen I think they tread a fine line of glorifying combat while trying to remind you war is horrible. I think they do that better in this than they did in MW2 and 3. I just hate how they make out the Americans are always on the good side and everyone else is bad.

Manifold Garden review - rewiring strange architecture in the void
This is a fantastic review, I'd been getting a bit fed up with reviews on this site that didn't reply explain the game or missed the point or felt like the reviewer didn't play the whole thing. This is great, just enough detail to help me understand and realise it'd be a great game for me, and not too much that you're spoiling anything. More like this please!

Disco Elysium review - large-scale whodunit with a distinct lack of focus
@Badoink I don't think that's true. The game regularly puts you in situations where you can't be good, how to get money for the first night or how to get people in the docks to help you, you always end up compromised somehow

Skyrim, Guild Wars composer Jeremy Soule accused of rape
@aldo_14 As someone posted above, didn't exactly this happen with Neymar recently? Someone accused him and it was all bullshit? I'm not saying we should assume the victim is lying, I'm saying we need to be very careful about publishing anything in cases like this because it will ruin lives whether it's true or not.
19
1
@Syran I don't know, does that mean it's ok to accuse people of things with no evidence as long as no evidence is likely to exist either way? I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm saying publishing something suggesting it might have happened when there's no evidence either way is irresponsible considering the act of publishing it could ruin someone's life.

@StingingVelvet as does 'he's a monster, I can't play Skyrim ever again'. Both seem stupid because we know basically nothing, which is why it's a bit weird the article was written.

@KingFunkIII but is it news? There's very little fact here. Just a very damaging and dangerous accusation.

11
@purekillforcw I want to know about that stuff too, but there's none of that in the article. You have to balance your interest in finding out more about these people you don't know against the fact that rightly or wrongly, articles like this could ruin his life. At the moment the risk that it's wrongly is not worth satisfying your curiosity, there needs to be some kind of evidence or a conviction from some kind of authority.

@DreadedWalrus but those Epstein stories were investigated and there's photos and records of who he was with and when to back up some of the claims. This is literally telling us that someone has accused someone else of rape and nothing else. The title is even structured to focus on the person being accused, so now if you Google them, that's what will come up despite there being no evidence. Imagine if someone accused you of rape then everyone, every employer, family member or friend, would see stories like that. It's a difficult situation but it can't be right to destroy people's careers and lives with unsubstantiated accusations.

@Goonbagmagee I think it's odd for Eurogamer to report on this, it's a video games site. Fine if they are giving opinions on video games, if they are doing journalism into videogame-related things (as they often do) then it should be journalism, where they are reporting on things they have found out and substantiated with some kind of evidence, otherwise they're just posting gossip and rumour.
17
25
@rexdraconum this, it could easily end their career based on an accusation. Surely the right thing to do is go to the police and for Eurogamer to report on a conviction?

The battle pass is about Ł10 and purely cosmetics, other than the two weapons each season which you can get even if you don't buy the battle pass, they unlock at the same point for everyone. If you get close to finishing the battle pass, you get enough COD points to buy the next one.
So instead of the old system where the playerbase was split up whenever a new map pack came out, now everyone has all the same things for free, other than cosmetics.
