PS3 firmware update 4.11 today

Sponz

Why all the comments about Windows Update?

Microsoft issue security updates and hotfixes just once a month. They are rarely more than a few megabytes (unless you do a fresh install of the OS) and they certainly dont number in the "Dozens" or equal "Hundreds of Megabytes."

We're talking the PS3 here. I havent switched my PS3 on for over 2 years, I think its on v3.1.something, just prior to when they removed the "Install other OS" feature. I may as well sell the bastard, I never use it.

GAME confirms layoffs at head office

Really sorry for the 46 lay offs. Actually, hang on a sec, do the other 45 (not including Mr Hughes)include those money grabbing feckers on the management board?

Or is this core support and logistics staff whose redundancies will create even more strain on the already struggling business?

GAME confirms talks with lenders have begun, hints at overseas sell-off

Electronics Boutique were awesome back in the late 90's, huge selection of games and friendly staff. Then they turned into Game, who were also pretty good for just about anything, and their 10 day no quibble refund policy was awesome. They were the only retailer I would ever think about buying from. I used to pre-order shed loads of stuff in-store and online.

Then around 2005 (I think) - Their management changed and they started down this 2nd hand game business. Something, as a semi intelligent human being I could not understand. Could not understand why, you would want to trade in a game for like £9, and then see the same 2nd hand game on the shelf for £5 cheaper than a new one. The complete dis interest in PC games turned me away as well.

What also used to grate with me was the "Do you want to buy this game second hand instead?" "Its £3 pound cheaper."

They've been exploiting Little Jonny and his limited capital for too long.

A badly managed and greedy bunch of senior execs at the board level, who will now pay the price of destroying what was once the best place to buy games. Sorry to the staff who will lose jobs, but this lot here:

Do they even look like they know what a game is?

Sorry Mr Shepherd, your strategy has failed matey. You'll have to get rid of the Porsche and Swiss Chalet now.

PC Gaming has been dying for years according to this very website. Yet here we all are still going strong.

My PC has had a hell of a lot more playtime this year than any of my consoles.

Microsoft: play Modern Warfare 3 early, risk an Xbox Live ban

I stopped buying Activision when MW2 came out. Bobby Kottick (If he still is the CEO) turned me right off of them with his attitude towards gamers and seeing them as cashcows. Shame really, I'd bought many Activision games going back to my Atari 2600. I guess with this continued poor treatment of gamers, I wont be buying any Activision games anytime soon.

EVE: CCP Gives A Damn

Sponz

I first played Eve back in 2007, but was with a prominently mining corp. I got quite bored pretty quick. However, I resubbed after the EG piece about spys and alliances, and have been hooked ever since. I've been having a real hoot with the Lolli and Cads chaps.

One thing I have realised is that no matter how long you've been playing, there is always something that you dont know about!

There's no place like Homeworld

Sponz

An excellent article, although perhaps this couldve been a bit longer. Two pages doesnt seem to do justice to a game that for me, set a milestone in RTS history.

I played and played and played this to death, was actively involved in a large clan for many online gaming nights and weekends.

Many happy memories of Homeworld, Cataclysm and Homeworld 2. We need a third please Relic, although didnt Alex Garden leave Relic to do something else, and Homeworld was his baby?

darn it, i was gonna get this, but im not gonna bother now...

excellent review, but as its an RTS "lite" im gonna pass on it.

Halo 2 US sales top $125m, UK launch a success

""so you can't really say PS2 has had a bad game year""

i didnt, i just said that ME(I) had only bought 2 games, i didnt say that it was a bad year for the ps2.

even if some of my games are multiplatform, i choose to buy them on the xbox as IN MY OPINION its a better platform for that particular game.

except SW:BF - ive got that on PC as well, and it plays better on that (obviously - with more horsepower to play it on)

my comments were based on DiscoStus comments of:

"Could the reason for Halo 2's success be down to the fact that XBOX ownsers have been starved of quality software?"

im not slating the PS2 at-all.... after all, i own one!

Dijini - In answer to your comments, i have to report that i went down to the Brighton Game store at 2330 on wednesday evening, to find no less than 102 ppl queuing for it. Although i didnt need to get a copy, i wanted to go down with my mate and get a copy for him just so we could play it for a few hours.

i say no less, because we were 102nd in the queue, and there mustve been another 75 people in our tiny store behind me.

It was busier on that one evening, than ive ever seen it, even on a saturday at peak-shopping times!

Go figure. Games comments are valid, as im a witness. Certainly in Brighton, and i wouldnt think that we had that many fans in my town! Did you go down to your local store? I heard Oxford St in London was rammed as well.

just define "Tanked" for me?

Tanked meaning "done well" or Tanked meaning "done bad" ?

not really a pissing contest, just weighing up the games.

ive only bought 2 games this year on my PS2

GTA:SA
Street Fighter (Anniversary i think its called)

ive lost count of games on the xbox this year that ive got on the shelf:

Halo2
Street Fighter (not played it yet though)
Midway Arcade Treasures 2 (only for Gauntlet 2 though)
Outrun2
Burnout3
Star Wars Battlefront
Ninja Gaiden
Prince of Persia
Crimson Skies
and others that i cant remember as im at work. Next big game im waiting for on xbox is MechAssault2

My Cube hasnt done too well this year;

Skies of Arcadia Legends being the only game ive got this year, although ive got Metroid2 on pre-order.

GBA has done well though.

As has PC.

""There seems more "must have" games out for the PS2 right about now than there does for the XBOX""

give us some examples, other than GTA SA.

bearing in mind that SA suffers from terrible FPS drop.

""*Strokes all the good games on all the 3 systems* Great to own 3 consoles ^_^""

it certainly is, it just reinforces my view that the Xbox is the best console

Halo2 crap?

only a true fanboy would dare say that.

You'll be saying that Half-Life 2 is crap next.

go back to the desert lamer.

GTA:SA - good game
Halo2 - good game
Half-Life2 - good game
Metroid2 - good game

theyre all excellent in their own way.
