Maybe worth mentioning that the tactical camera takes a substantial hit in quality, too, simply because of the 4-5 second delay in advancing time.

That's a bigger issue for me than the textures and frame rate; I just avoid using it altogether now, which is a shame.

FIFA 13 was the most downloaded PS3 game in September, only on sale for three days

SilentTristero

I imagine a lot of stoned students with fresh September loans sat in their accounts, here.

In fact, students have a lot of reasons to go digital, even for a small premium - back in my student houses, discs were always at risk of being used as coasters, left on the floor or just plain being lifted from the house. At least with a digital copy, you won't get bastards mistreating it or asking to borrow it every bloody week.

(None of these were my personal collection, of course... talking 'communal' copies of FIFA/Pro and stuff)

Not a huge market, but then the game's release does tend to coincide with those student loans.

I've got a couple of PS1 cases with old retail stickers (Electronics Boutique!) still on there; they're all 39.99 and upwards. Soul Blade's one of them. I do vividly recall buying Diablo new (PS1) in HMV for 29.99, though.

The Elder Scrolls Online preview leaked, detailed

SilentTristero

Fucking sick of hot bars and cool-downs. Struggling to see why this entire venture was thought to be a good idea - I can only hope they've got more than 'The TES name will sell millions'.

They had a great opportunity to essentially remake Ultima Online, only in Tamriel - given that TES games share a great deal with what UO did, in terms of freedom (of both the character template and geographical variations) and design.

Football Manager dev hopes to stick with Android despite 9:1 piracy rate

7 quid is an unusual price - 5 is only a saving of a few pounds, yet I suspect it would be considerably more attractive as a purchase.

It's also easy to forget that this is a pretty extensive game that not so long ago was retailing on the psp for 20 - 30 english pounds.

As for word of mouth, surely FM has one of the best reputations around for rabidly devouring your time?

All of this was basically my own mind attempting to rationalise the purchase I'll inevitably have made by the end of the day...

Game of Thrones PC/PS3/360 action RPG release date

SilentTristero

Agree with those who are playing the board game - once you have 6 people who know the rules, and have either a degree of familiarity with the series or some very basic roleplaying experience, it's great fun. It's literally designed to encourage tenuous alliances and self-serving deception.

Despite ongoing hope, I doubt the RPG would feel as overwhelmingly rewarding and satisfying for the same 40.

Tesco claims it's "The Home of Gaming" in new ad

SilentTristero

I don't really begrudge their staff for being clueless; they must feel similar to GAME staff being briefed on all the additional warranties, superfluous nonsense and non-gaming products they'd be trying to sell to customers.

Claiming to be the 'Home of Gaming', however, is flat out dishonest; the stores aren't physically set up to sell more than a couple of chart titles, with products locked in secure boxes and stored far away from the checkout.

The very least they could do to back up this bullshit is install separate game counters in their stores - something I suspect we'd see in a handful of larger stores, at best.

@Bahumet Yeah, they've confirmed a 'Classic Controls' option.

From what I played though, it's probably worth getting used to the new scheme, it flows quite nicely.

I personally haven't played Tricky or the other originals for a little while, so it shouldn't be too much of a 'shock' using a new layout.

Fine by me, from a selfish perspective; I'm not relying on this for my first play-through - and there's the aforementioned crowd of releases about to be showered upon us. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the real reason.

Diablo III Beta

SilentTristero

Has the 'Always online DRM' thing been misunderstood?

I think they're saying that all your campaign progression and loot will simply be automatically part of your online experience, whereas before you'd choose to play either 'locally' or online.

So, as I understand there is no single-player; every game will essentially act as an instanced dungeon, unified by trade and chat hubs (and PvP arenas?) It's a step towards MMO-lite, almost like Phantasy Star.

Not quite the same as 'Internet Connection Required to play Single Player'.

I didn't stick with the first game, despite really enjoying the concept, art and style.

Can see plenty of buggy 'Kicking a man on his left ankle and watching him go down holding his face' scenarios; the depressing thing is this could be potentially realistic.

That, and the inevitable inaccurate commentary regarding players being rushed back.

Skipped 11, I want a properly developed career mode, and not one with a 'story'. That could be fun, but only as an additional mode. They're much more likely to release that as a separate game though, unfortunately.

How many more devices will people be excited about playing old games on? All anyone seems to want to do with new hardware is see if they can get games from the 90's running on it.

FFT, FFVII, Gran Turismo etc are all well and good, but they are already portable on the PSP. Despite what's said about this being a phone and thus more indispensable, I don't think it's any better for it than grabbing a PSP for 50-60.

I hope Local Co-Op is compelling, there isn't much else out there (Although Hunted: The Demon's Forge is on the way). Sacred 2's Local option zooms the camera out so far above the action, I get sleepy playing it.

A documentary, art book, soundtrack and a comic are poor value?

It's a lot better than most collector's editions.

Perhaps a bit eager in referring to it as a 'documentary', if the hastily thrown together interviews with whoever was unlucky enough to be in the studio at the time on other Making Of's is anything to go by. This sort of thing typically accompanies a cinematic release by default, why should I be excited about it here?

It's the minimum I expect from a CE; where are the actual collectables, the things I can display or actually put to use? Virtually everything has a special edition release now, and this isn't doing anything to stand out.

I've even written more extensively on this topic in the past: http://lot-49.blogspot.com/2010/05/on-co...

"Hugetitted Woman is such a horrible gaming cliche that it was just disappointing to see it here. "

If you pay attention, she only has huge tits in the initial scenes - the idea being, Varric, the narrator, has somewhat embellished that particular detail. They're restored to a more normal proportion for the rest of the prologue. This is why I think the narration form of story-telling is going to be awesome in this game.

As for Isabella, well, she's just that kind of woman, hanging around the places she does.

Still waiting on the PC Demo.

Vastly disappointed with the game.

Infinitely pleased at a Thomas Pynchon reference in a review.

Keep going, Simiankid! There's only around 150 pages in that novel, and it only gets more and more intriguing as you go on. W.A.S.T.E!

Gravity's Rainbow, on the other hand, would be more easily digested if you fucking ate it. It's definitely worth finishing, but much harder to convince someone to do so.
