Could you have either just published a (rewritten, if necessary) press release about the game, or actually spent some time playing it before posting about it? This "There's a new game I guess but I played it for only five minutes during lunch so here's kind of what it's about I guess" style newspost isn't doing it for me.

Sad news.

As an aside though: everybody keeps mentioning Grim Fandango Remastered newly recorded orchestral score, yet I played through the entire thing and didn't notice any difference whatsoever. I even played the original soundtrack (which was already orchestral as opposed to MIDI) I had lying around. Did this re-recording ever happen?

First things first: that's one amazing album cover.

Hands-on with Microsoft's ridiculous $149 Elite Xbox controller

Shinetop

But it is disappointing that the Elite controller still requires two AA batteries and not a rechargable battery pack. You'll still need to buy a separate Play and Charge kit - or rely on rechargables.
Because a standard type of battery that's cheap and available everywhere is much worse than an expensive, nonstandard battery that's only available in certain shops?

Remembering Loom, the adventure game designed to be completed

@challenge_hanukkah No, your mother was a duck.
4 0

Shinetop

@oldjoe It might. But then shouldn't the line be more along the lines of "Loom was designed to be completable?"

The fact that we're discussing this suggests to me that the author of this retrospective could've spent a bit more time clarifying it.
0 1

Shinetop

What does "designed to be completed" even mean? That you should play it through to the end? Like every story-driven game?

I mean, I love Loom, but that phrase seems so meaningless. The author of this retrospective also never focuses on what it means, but simply keeps repeating it.

I love how, for the better part of two decades, game journalists have been claiming that the adventure game genre was thought dead, or at least comatose, but finally making a return in these past years."

I've read lines like this seemingly every year since '00 or so.

I have to wonder what adventure games the author has played though. "Unlike a lot of older adventure games, your choices in the new King's Quest will be primarily based on your actions rather than words." What? The number of adventure games where the action depends on your dialog choices is minimal. Also, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is an adventure game now?

Gotta say I love the narrative device of telling a bedtime story and playing with that both in a Big Fish kind of way and as a mechanic to eradicate the old Sierra "You're dead! Hope you saved your game!" frustrations in a fun way.

Why would it be a scam? If it was a scam there wouldn't even be any early access content, they would've just taken the kickstarter money and ran without doing any more work.

Obviously, this was ran by people with lots of ambition who eventually realised they'd never be able to deliver, and then had no idea how to tell all the people who paid them money. That's dumb, but not a scam.

Rise of the Tomb Raider puzzles "will take you longer to solve", Crystal Dynamics promises

Shinetop

@Nikanoru I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Tomb Raider didn't need the T-rex. Fighting words, I know.

It's a classic, for sure, but I think the game would've been as good had it not been in there. I found that the most effective danger came from the tombs themselves: the Indiana Jones-like deathraps with doors that sealed, spears that popped up, ceilings that dropped, ravines you had to not fall into, etc. I always felt that that danger was way more effective. Getting attacked by another animal was more an annoying distraction on the way to the next horrible trap or complicated ancient machinery.
