Far Cry 4's PC system requirements revealed

Rrralphster

They kept the viewrange and weapon ranges too low in FC3.
To keep a healthy bill of performance probably.
It killed my immersion when I found my first scoped weapon of which the bullets disappeared at around 300m...
They wanted "graphical fluff" instead of realism, so to speak.
For a "partial fps" that is bad. No, make that terrible....
It is very likely that I will not be buying FC4 for this particular reason.

The problem with video game guns

Ha, how could I forget. That was brilliant as well.
A bit clunky (still is) in the controls. But realistic indeed (meaning, not boring)

The first, non-boring game with guns.
Infiltration was a mod for UT99.
No crosshairs and free-aim, ballistics (even for the shrapnel of frag grenades) loadouts and fatigue.
In this game, weapons were leathal.

Best shooter game ever. Beats CoD, Counter Strike etc.

FBI charges four hackers with stealing from Microsoft, Epic and Zombie Studios

Rrralphster

@grassyknoll

I needed to go to the kotaku article to find out that they stole $5,000 of confidential military info.
I'm impressed. $5,000 worth.
Must have been a big secret (most likely how the XBOX controller can be used for flying drones....lol).

Writing down the number of cars driving through the gate of a military base on a daily basis would be worth ~that much.
Or the location of the keys to the vending machine of the officer's club.

No seriously. People who scew up the whole world get of easy.

Cities: Skyline is out to satisfy where SimCity couldn't

Rrralphster

I'm afraid it will not do the most important thing that most other city builders forget to add.
And that is an evolving city.
Games like Cities XL, you plop a town/city. The only thing that changes are the colours of the roads (traffic).
Let's see.

50 EA games will have their servers shut down

Rrralphster

"No, we don't make dedicated servers anymore."
For those who don't remember dedicated servers. They were rented and ran by clans and communities.
One of the best things about these dedicated servers was that people could run mods/ custom maps.

The problem with dedicated servers is that game companies don't make any money.
People will run their own custom maps. Their own gamemechanic mods.
It would mean, no season passes, no paid for DLC (no extra $$$)

The devs use "we want a level playing field" or "we don't want a divided community because every clan runs it's own mods/maps"

I don''t get rude on public forums (normally)...
But fuck you EA (this case...)

You mean I need to build a certain building for those stats to unlock?
2 1

Rrralphster

Banished seems to be missing some things.
There is info about production (we produced 600 fish last year) but no indicator of how much fish was eaten.
So no comprehensive feedback. And I'm not talking about an advisor, who holds your hand at every step of the way. Just basic input/info
And the numbers hardly make any sense.
You start off with a decent stockpile (of food), but once you built your first house, the family moving in "eats" more then a 1000 potato's (out of 1500 stockpiled).
And that's a 2 person family.
I like Banished and I don't like it at the same time.

AI that let's you win :/
Still no gridstarts :/
Performance parts that lower performance but increase PP(I understand that different rev Turbo's give different performance but...) :/
And indeed, no endurance races :/

I sincerely expected more from "Improved AI" (no gridstart because AI is dumb and would make it too easy to win, on the other hand letting you win even after you spin off the track several times)

Let's keep it at "not their best release"...

Roguelike-like (or something like that)
But not "Roguelike"...
No generated map, not move/turn based, no vague descriptions of dropped items, it's not even fantasy...
The only thing related to it being "Roguelike" is permadeath.

This is as "Roguelike" as the BF series is an MMO...
"This red paint is very greenlike..." (Sounds like rubbish, right..?)
GTA is very Roguelike as well.

How War of the Vikings respects historical fidelity, brutality and women warriors

Rrralphster

@Dangerous_Dan
"I think there were female warriors in ancient societies."

I agree, but I don't think they had the numbers to get noticed or recorded in history as such.

Lot's of separate hero´ns though. In many different cultures they have famous female warriors

(Interesting, but going off topic (War of the Vikings))

@Dangerous_Dan

just because women in viking clans knew how to fight doesn't mean they joined their husbands to actively participate in raidings.
It's more likely that whenever they needed to fight, they did it to protect the family/house.

And an army like that needs "support troops" (like medics/cooks/crafts)
For me that myth has been busted.
(Was doing research into "Fly Amanita" use in Scandinavia)

I initially liked WotR, but it quickly turned into a "buff this/nerf that" festival.
And people (read: players) just can't seem to agree about which weapon does what.
I don't expect anything else from this one.
