Star Wars Battlefront 2 has a loot crate problem
| @drawfull I think you're confusding the point. There's NOTHING wrong with a game having a DLC system for maps etc. down the road. The issue is having to pay for that extra content. If the content is free and the WHOLE player base has access to it, then that's win win. In this case, the big issue is, Battlefront II is a game built around a loot crate driven progress system that distributes it's contents at RANDOM and in order to avoid grinding for hours and hours and hours the game's structure blatantly encourages you to engage with and spend real money on that loot crate system. It's rotten to the core. |

It's a shite system for sure. Not what any paying customer should have to put up with. Trouble is, I think this may be as a direct consequence of future maps/modes DLC being free to all. At some point over the last 10 years, larger devs have decided/got used to it costing, on average, £70 per new game. That extra 30/40% on the retail costs has manifest itself as DLC and a few fluff micro transactions. Now, we have a situation where the player base / community of the first EA/DICE Battlefront have called out loudly that they don't want the player base to be split over haves and have not's for map/mode selection. A noble request and for a thing that shouldn't really be thing anyway. BUT, in this case, it would appear that EA still wants it's £70 average, even though we're getting all the maps/modes for free. In step Pay to Win. Utterly garbage, greed driven system that should be shot down in flames. I really enjoy the moment to moment gameplay on offer in BFront2 and I'm a massive SW nerd, but I'll be thinking long and hard about whether I buy this. I want a level playing field where skill and progress are rewarded in a linear way - Here's a challenging mechanic, now LEARN that mechanic, get good at it, and be a better player. FK buying a 'bigger gun' to shortcut the system. Not only that, but FK buying a CHANCE of receiving a 'bigger gun' to shortcut the system! |

He's not dead. Ellie is talking about the Fireflies. This game's going to be about the the consequences of the what Joel told Ellie at the end of the last game. Or it's aliens. |

Is DayZ still coming out on console and, you know, WTH is going on?
|
Not played the game in months - early 0.58 maybe - but I still contend that it offers an experience unlike anything else and it can offer hugely rewarding and satisfying game to play. What is slightly mental is that Bohemia decided to develope a new engine alongside an Early Access game and hoped to maintain it's original release schedule. Early Access is a double edge sword at the best of times, let alone trying to develop new tech in tandem with a new game. I genuinely hope they manage to pull it off. As I said, the experience on offer is unlike anything else I've played and when it works it's as compelling as the best games I've played. |

PlayStation Store reveals Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection
| I'd double dip, depending on how great the graphical upgrade is to the 1st game. The 2nd & 3rd games looked fantastic on PS3 so no qualms there, but Uncharted does look of it's era. I've only actually played each of the games through once so re-visiting them now, so many years later will be a welcome diversion. |

Streaming issues hit PSN digital version of Grand Theft Auto 5
|
Yup, I get this on my Digital version. Mostly it's the ground plane where I notice it - Driving at break neck speeds, to escape the Police - A pretty major part of the experience! - and entire sections of the floor will just not be there, allowing me to see through the world to the geometry beneath. My car stays 'on the road', so the collision data is present, but the graphical side of things, not so much. As the article points out, it happens in busy urban area mostly, and in my experience, only when driving one of the really, really quick cars. Still, not ideal considering the price of the digital version. On the other hand, the price isn't actually a big deal for me. Where I live, games on disk regularly sell for €65 so a digital version for €55 is a bargain, IMO, especially as I'll never trade the game in. |

GT5 update ups maximum RPM of HSV-010 to 10300 rpm
| @edrerai So it's up to me to define the difficulty level? PD should have balanced the game so I don't have to. One of the best bits of GT is engaging with the cars. The opening hours are easily the best and most fun. This is because you're restricted by the game to what you can use / buy. Buying a 2nd hand car fitting a new air filter and exhaust because that's all you can afford and then just about winning races is far, far, far more satisfying than adjusting a dial to reduce your PP and then just about win. The games too easy after the initial races. I'm the consumer. I shouldn't have to police my own play time. The game should be good enough to do that. |
3
2
| @Eldritch To be honest, I've not seen Forza's intro but yeah, the GT5 one is pretty atmospheric. |

| @edrerai If you don't know then nothing I say can change that. GT5 is a good piece of software but for me it's not a 'fun' experience. It's sterile and soulless. The 'career' isn't engaging or particularly challenging. The Seasonal events, while a good shot in the arm for the game are only really a patch up job. A far more challenging race system and more rewarding experience would be a well considered and executed multiplayer portion of the game. IMO of course :P |

The new mode that gives Battlefield 3 newcomers a fighting chance
|
@Marrrfooo It's gone now. No one uses the frag rounds with shotties any more. They're so ineffective, you need a direct hit and a couple of rounds so people just don't bother - it's not easy mode anymore. IMO, Shotguns aren't an issue in the majority of games / servers unless you're unlucky. If someone wants to play the objective on Rush or Conquest then a Shotgun isn't going to get them anywhere. If you want to play TDM or Close Quaters then you'll see the odd person using a shot gun - normally the pump versions (870 & the SPAS-12), in my experience - but it's certainly not a 'problem'. |

| @Marrrfooo it must have been around February or March judging by this : http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-23-dice-shares-battlefield-3-patch-notes-ahead-of-release - They basically reduced the effectiveness of the 'frag' rounds fired by Semi Auto shotguns. |

@Cafuddled I appreciate what you're saying but look at the link again : http://symthic.com/comparison.php?wep1=M240B&attc1=None&wep2=M27+IAR&attc2=None M27IAR - one of the starting guns for the support class is easily the more usable when compared to your example - M240B) - Higher rate of fire & muzzle velocity, lower ADS time, lower bullet spread making getting and staying on target much easier and the recoil of the M27 is lower across the board. My point is the opening guns are easier to use and equally as effective (if not more so IMO) than the guns unlocked later in the game. Also, the idea that BF3 murdered burst fire is nonsense. True that some guns 'settle' during sustained fire (mainly the heavy LMG's / support class weapons) but in 99.9% of situations, if you burst fire a weapon, you'll win 1 v 1 against someone going full auto. The recoil, and muzzle drift on the majority of weapons in BF3 means that sustained fire will have you shooting everywhere but where you want. Bursting is a much, much better method. |

@MattRobson Again, that's just down to map knowledge. Shotguns have short range so don;t get too close and an SMG, AR or LMG will still win the encounter. To be fair, the Semi Auto shotties we're ridiculous for a while. They're a bit shit but could get you results, until you came up against someone with a clue. Not to mention the fact the DICE addressed the issue and nurfed the explosive rounds. Then there's the server's that have enforced their own rules - "No semi auto shotguns, C4 on Flags, or base camping" etc. The server browser means that for every situation where you find a gun / piece of equipment that's getting on your tits, there are countless servers where those things aren't tolerated. Can't really see a complaint there, unless you're too impatient to find a half decent server and add it to you favorites list. |

| Grind to win is a bollox in BF3. It's a misconception. It doesn't exist. The opening guns for each class are as strong as the last guns you unlock. Within 30 minuets or so of using a single weapon you'll have unlocked all the 'essential' attachments for it - a sight & grip perhaps. Beyond that it becomes a matter of taste / developing a play style and using the latter unlocks to enhance those play styles. There are no stronger bullets, or body armour to unlock so there are no advantages to be had. The only 'advantages' available are through learning each weapons characteristics and map knowledge. |
