Dark Souls Remastered: how much of an upgrade is it?

RobAnybody

@FrancisSunderland Well said, this makes me wonder if From Software and particularly Miyazaki have even seen this and, if so, did they approve it?

QLOC have done the remaster for PC, Xbone and PS4 while Virtuos have done the Switch remaster.

That aside, the remaster sucks, not because of what they haven't changed but because the visual changes are inferior to the original. Look at the lousy new lighting, the bonfire effect, the fog gate, and so on. All are unnecessary changes for the worst.

Stardew Valley review

RobAnybody

@pgharavi Unfortunately there's more than that. It's a superb game but the port is very buggy and some bugs are so easy to come across that the game obviously wasn't thoroughly tested before release. There's also a bug that can, in some cases, cause the game to crash when you try and save at the end of an in-game day. There's even bugs that remain from other platforms that haven't been fixed for many months. Here's hoping from some swift fixes by the developers.

What a load of utter and absolute bollocks. I'm sure that Tolkien won't just be turning in his grave, he'll be spinning like a top. Christopher Tolkien must be pretty annoyed too.

Video shows how to dock in Elite: Dangerous

@Guy.J. The docking-related humour was added to this video for fun - it won't be in the final version.

@levitate The docking music (Blue Danube) wasn't present on the BBC micro versions, only on machines like the ST, Amiga, etc.

@Purist Nah, docking was easy once you had a Docking Computer. :)

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft review

RobAnybody

In terms of the overall game concept, accessibility and pretty graphics and nice sounds I'd agree with the 10/10.

However, due to various issues with the game I think that I can only stretch to 7/10. These issues are: inexcusable long-standing game-breaking bugs, very poor quality control, some very bad game design and balance decisions and atrocious customer 'service' and far too much randomness in the game (too many minions and spells have a random element, so making the game one of luck more than skill). And the final nail in the coffin - poor value for in-game purchases and a lousy 'exchange rate' when you disenchant cards for arcane dust.

Sorry Blizzard, but you get a B- ..... you should be able to do far better.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft beta review

RobAnybody

Have been in the Closed Beta for a couple of months or so, but a while back I stopped playing. Why? Simply because the game got a bit 'samey' and boring and just wasn't fun any more.

New players will no doubt have a blast (at first) but unless the Hearthstone devs make some major changes to the gameplay it's just not going to be a long-lasting game for the average 'casual' player. And that would be a pity - it has great potential but I get the impression that the devs don't exactly know how to enhance it and make it truly great.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft enters open beta

RobAnybody

I'm surprised that they've put it into open Beta given the number of game-breaking bugs that have existed, unfixed, for months now (and which are still present, along with some new ones).

As for the game itself - even taking into account the fact that it's a Beta release it's still extremely bare bones and gets tiresome, boring and repetitive after a while. It needs a LOT of work yet.

Beyond: Two Souls sold over a million copies worldwide

RobAnybody

Shit games sell. No surprise there.

However, for anyone who wants to play a really excellent game with an imaginative story and well written characters, try "The Cat Lady". It's 1000x better than Beyond: Two Souls. Cheaper too.

StarCraft star Day9 making a browser game

RobAnybody

I subscribe to his YouTube channel and sometimes watch his live twitch.tv streams - he's good for a laugh and is brilliant at Starcraft II. He has a 'day off' most Fridays where he live-streams (then uploads to YouTube) him playing a non-Starcraft game - he's played through all sorts, from Limbo to The Last of Us. However, his BEST live-stream was for Amnesia: The Dark Descent - that was a real hoot and is well worth a watch, it had me in stitches:

World of Tanks dev drops "pay-to-win" purchases and hopes the rest of the industry will follow suit

RobAnybody

Been playing World of Tanks for about 18 months or so, still play it for at least an hour or two most days. Love it.

On the surface this announcement by Wargaming sounds like a good move, but the cynical part of me thinks it's just a marketing ploy.

But let's see how it goes.

Terraria heading to mobile devices this summer

RobAnybody

I really can't see how this is going to work on some piddly little phone screen, not without diminishing the game a lot.

Should be better on tablets, but fine touchscreen controls are going to be a bitch without a stylus or similar.

I love the PC version and the forthcoming large Version 1.2 update (due end of July hopefully) is looking tremendous.

Slender: The Arrival review

RobAnybody

@Simon Parkin - how the hell did you manage to give this an 8/10? It's a truly woeful game with zero atmosphere and not even slightly scary. In fact, it's even worse than the original Slender game, and that's saying something.

Maxis attempts to explain why SimCity is always-online as players discover code for 20-min offline force-shutdown timer

RobAnybody

Here Bradshaw, I have a spade you can borrow.

Besides all of her spin it's also worth remembering that an awful lot of people are still experiencing server issues and are finding that their cities are mysteriously disappearing from the servers.

Look EA, just give us a true offline mode, fix the AI and give us (yes, for free!) the ability to create much larger cities, then a lot of the criticism will vanish.
