Rocket League on Switch plays beautifully in mobile mode

RichieTenenbaum

I had the opposite experience.

I think it looks ok on my tv. I only have a 32 screen, though and havenít seen the PS4 version. I guess I can say I didnít think it looked noticably bad.

Portable on the other hand is jaggy central and I notice how rough it looks every time I play. The ball outlije, in particular. Still thrown lots of hours in, though. The core gameplay is solid.

I wasn't reading the brilliant history of FF7 recently on Polygon and a Feb said something. That Nintendo didn't care if people didn't make games for them. Others were allowed to, but not encouraged. This still feels true.

I don't think Nintendo are going out there and aggressively pitching to other software houses. Offering them discounted licences etc. They needed to do this.

They needed to make Netflix for the VC. it's a no brainer that.

It's so frustrating to see this company with so many great games, a great history of game making, so much talent, flounder under a crippling, conservative management.

New year's resolution: Let's stop screaming

I also want to share a little (true) story.

I've been on the internet since I was 15. I've posted while immature and stupid. I've posted while depressed and lonely. Not everything I've written has been OK. I've been horrible and cruel and hyperbolic. Anyone looking through my post history here I'm sure will fine some normal chat and some stuff that's borderline insane. I accept that I should have thought twice about posting quite a few things I posted.

Recently, I have been the subject of an online hate campaign pasting over a year. Someone who took unbridge to something I said a long time ago has been posting on the comments in my blog threats to send content from archive.org forum posts of mine to my employer. It's terrifying. I have a mortgage now. A fiancť. I have a life and it could all be destroyed. It's kept me up at night.

Now obviously, I should never have made any comment that I can't stand behind. But I've not always been as settled as I am now. I did not always think I would have a career I would be terrified of losing.

I have deleted my blog. I am still fearful. My life could come crashing down.

I'm sharing this story for 2 reasons.
1. I don't care about 'oh but journalists' or 'oh but hype'. No one deserves abuse. Full stop.

2. Online abuse isn't just nasty comments. It can be so much more. No one deserves it. Even if they have been a dick or made a buggy game.

@Rogueywon well done. You've got 'everything I hate' bingo.

The No Man's Sky stuff is just absolute rubbish. Some game writers (but not all. Some have it a kicking) embraced it because it was so different, in an industry that's too often very staid and safe. But you know, it's all about opinions.

Because they're software, some folks talk about games as though you can be objective. One thing is objectively better than another, but that's absolute baloney. Games are at the point of films and music now. You can't be objective about them. Everyone brings their own experiences to the game, everyone relates to the themes in different ways. I don't care AT ALL about frame rate or controls in The Last Guardian. It connects with me. I think it's a great experience. It might not connect with you. How do we be objective about this?

And about your ps. Games are undergoing a very public culture clash at the moment. People are exploring what games are and who they can represent. To not cover this would be to do Eurogamer's audience a massive disservice. You have the right to disagree with their conclusions. But anyone covering games needs to be writing about this stuff.

These are the sorts of questions Nintendo gets asked by shareholders

RichieTenenbaum

I actually think he has a point. Nintendo's value is in their characters, much like Disney. But they don't seem overly interested in actually USING a lot of their IP.

Surely an F Zero game is an easy win. There's innumerable partners that could do it. Then they could talk about physical games or even vehicle amibos.
A Nintendo or Mario movie in the same vein as the Lego Movie.
At the moment they're letting a lot of their characters stagnate.
When was the last Mickey Mouse film? Ages ago. But Disney still makes a lot of money off the IP.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze review

The problem is that it's another 2D platformer. In the last few years Nintendo have done the previous SK. Kirby's Yarn, the New Super Mario Bros games... That's an awful lot of 2D platformers as a percentage of their output.
I like 2D platform games. They're perfectly fine. But at this point I'm not going to buy another one.

Wow. Introversion are having a slight return to form, but they should cut some rug and get some more updates for PA out. I mean, If... it's ever going to be finished Mark needs to be a fast boy and get coding.

I hope Introversion don't have liquid lips and actually intend to finish, PA, though. Otherwise I'll want their head on a spike.

THOUGHTS:

It looks like you'll have to tap rides to collect money. TOO MUCH INTERACTION. I like to build and admire.

It looks too zoomed in.

Looks like they've removed a lot of charm.

Why can't we just pay for the game, and then play the game?

Free to play usually ends up in repetitive, slow gameplay designed to bleed you of cash :( :(

When will games designers learn that to make their games shorter? Pace is more important then length.

I'm actually not going to buy this, despite loving the idea and noir films, as I just don't have the time to see it through.
