C64 Channel coming to Virtual Console

@Pac-man ate my wife

I was free-lance, and never signed a contract, and I believe you have to specifically sign away your copyright which is something I never did. In any case the original publishers went out of business many years ago, though one of them was Hewson whose games featured prominently on the C64 Direct To TV joystick, and are probably going to be some of the games on the virtual console.

Too expensive, considering you can buy a C64 Joystick with 30 games built in for a fiver!

I used to work on C64 games as a loading screen artist, so I'll be interested to see if any of my work turns up on the channel. (I doubt it, but it's possible). If so I shall be asking, 'where's my cut?' I never signed my rights away to any of my artwork, so I believe I still own the rights.

Discs of Tron on XBLA this week

The original arcade game used a special paddle controller to control the left-right targeting of the discs. You also could move the paddle control up or down to target higher or lower. I hope they've got a good control substitute for that, as otherwise it's going to be very hard, and it was never an easy game.

It is one of my favourites from that era though. The cabinet was amazing, enclosed stand-up with stereo speakers right behind you (with stereo effects used very effectively). The display was reflected on glass, in front of 3D artwork which gave it a holographic feel. The digitized speech was good too. I think a large part of the game's appeal is based on the cabinet and the environment it gave you to play the game, so here's hoping the translation does the game justice.

Games are "Satan's sudoku", claims Times

It makes you realise how other forms of media see video games, when you notice that video game news stories are posted under 'Technology' on the BBC news website, rather than 'entertainment, where all the TV and film stories are put.

When games are seen as 'Entertainment' rather than 'Technology' then perhaps the media will cease attacking games. (Some hope).

Crysis

I've just built a quad-core PC with a 640mb 8800GTS for around 700, and it plays the Crysis demo at 1280x1024 high detail at 30fps. It even plays the demo at very high detail (using the config tweak), at a playable frame rate. If I'd known the 8800GT was about to come out, I could have built it for 100 less, and got even better performance.

No need to spend 1700.

60GB PS3 to be discontinued

I was planning to get a PS3 next year, when I get a HDTV. But I still have some PS2 games I play with my children (mostly retro-games). I wanted to get rid of the PS2, and play those games on the PS3, so no BC for me means no sale.
