Dying Light no longer a PS3 and 360 game

Popzeus

About time we started hearing devs say this.

Given the sales of both PS4 and One, and the probable tipping point coming this Christmas, there really is no excuse to keep making design compromises just to prop up the tail-end of the last gen.

Incredible Spelunky player reveals how to kill the Ghost

Popzeus

Bit of a shame it pops out of existence without any kind of fanfare. A special sound effect and some kind of epic item drop might have been appropriate. Maybe Derek Yu didn't think it would ever be killed, despite it being theoretically possible, but it seems a sad oversight in a game with so many other obscure little details.

Leaked Grand Theft Auto 5 audio files hint at casinos, racing

Popzeus

@karaokequeen3 I was quite surprised there wasn't a horse somewhere in the game to start with, TBH. Kept expecting to find a stable somewhere out in the farming area. I'll admit walking up to a cow, pressing Y and being quite disappointed when nothing happened.

I'm not surprised casinos are coming as DLC, given that there's a massive casino on the map already.

Would expect horse racing at some point for similar reasons.

The Typing of the Dead: Overkill review

Popzeus

Shame about the lack of a tutorial mode. I learned to touch-type from scratch with only Typing Of The Dead to guide me - the tutorial section went over the basics brilliantly.

Seems a pity people won't be able to do the same with this.

FIFA 14 on Vita is another reskin

Popzeus

Unlike most of the people in this thread I don't think there's much wrong with last year's Vita FIFA, gameplay-wise.

Unless you're some kind of obsessive-compulsive type who absolutely must have this year's players and kits, you'll not go far wrong with it. Especially given that it's about to get much cheaper.

Not the faintest idea why anyone would buy the new one though, by the sounds of that.

Popzeus

Wasn't that long ago that even the big chains would break street dates if they had stock early. I remember buying Vice City 2 days early from Game, of all places. Went in to put a late pre-order in, walked out with the game.

What a great piece of writing.

Staggering how much effort must have gone into an aspect of the game that many if not most players will have barely dipped into, just following straight-line paths between missions.

If it's anything like how WP7 already works then there will be some accounting for exchange rates.

At the moment, WP7 devs set the price for their games in one currency and they are instantly recalculated for every other country it's going to be sold in, so a game that is 99¢ in the US is sold for 79p in the UK and so on.

There isn't the option to set prices for different regions separately, e.g. 99¢ but also 99p.

Doom retrospective

Popzeus

I remember it taking hours of trial and error to make a boot disk that would free up enough conventional memory to get Doom running on our PC at the time. Those were the days :/

There was a PC showroom near us that, for about 5 years, had Doom running on all its display PCs - gradually getting faster and faster as the tech improved. It was a benchmark you could relate to instantly, seeing how much faster Doom ran on the latest Pentium than it did on your current machine.

Recently played through it again on the DS homebrew port, it's aged surprisingly well.

Mrs Popzeus is far more impressed by the voice recognition aspects of Kinect than she is with the full body tracking. She can get her head round the idea that it uses its cameras to 'see' where you are and how you're moving, but voice recognition that you don't need to calibrate is "magic".
