Michel Ancel is getting Beyond Good & Evil fans excited again

Ostinato

Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time ... Those were the magical Ubi days. Maybe best if we leave BG&E for what it is. I can't imagine how BG&E2 could do right to the original game. It will never be the same.

Dark Souls 3 review

Started DS3 yesterday and playing the game felt like donning your favorite old sweater. And then finding out it's lined with shark teeth.

Anyway, I beat the 1st bos on the 1st try, so I would like you all to congratulate me on my skill and courage.

A different creed: the legacy of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Ostinato

This is the game that got me into gaming. The way the story was told really got me. And all the little details. The shimmering grains of sand everywhere. The magical blue, purple and gold everywhere. The way the game started, by opening a lace curtain from a palace balcony. You felt like you were entering the bedroom of a beautiful princess, and eventually, you actually would ...

Edit: and remember, this is at about the same time as Beyond Good and Evil, another little gem by Ubisoft. Those were the days.

The Witness costs £29.99, pre-orders now live

This game has been in development for seven years. 30 quid isn't so bad. The Talos Principle cost the same when it came out, if not more. Don't want to pay 30 pounds? Just wait a few months for the price to drop.

Anyway, day 1 purchase here.

@RevanNL
(glad that everyone is enjoying those indiegames, however I have zero interest in them)
So you think only AAA games can be any good? You'd rather play Black Flag again than trying out a game like Rocket League? Wow, you're really missing out on a lot of fun.

Rocket League is out of beta already? Just a month ago they had a beta of a week, that I missed :-(. Watched some streams on Twitch and it looked like great, great fun. Easy to learn, hard to master.

Bloodborne again: Expansion confirmed

Ostinato

@mega-gazz That's exactly the entitlement attitude I'm talking about. "Cruel"? Your choice of words says it all.

By the way, Bloodborne is not part of the Souls series.
6 0

Ostinato

@mega-gazz Because of the entitlement attitude that is behind those requests. Let me quote the petition for BB on pc on change.org:

"It is not fair that we are left out. You have betrayed us after releasing your last two games on PC."

And just out of curiosity: why is BB being a PS4 exclusive such a big deal? Demon's Souls was. All Nintendo games are Nintendo-exclusive. Forza is Xbox-exclusive. Eve is PC-exclusive. What's the big issue with Bloodborne?

Exploring new zones in these games is definitely the most intense experience I've ever had in gaming. The same goes for the immense satisfaction of beating a boss for the 1st time. Or finding a brilliant shortcut.

Hearthstone beta "validated" free-to-play approach, Blizzard says

Ostinato

@Jmog DOTA 2 is from Valve, DOTA (1) was a community-made mod from Warcraft (3, I think); Blizzard had nothing to do with that.
3 0

Ostinato

@Faramis Why the rush? You're assuming everyone needs to play at the top of the ladder. I don't see why this should be the case. Hearthstone is also great fun at lower levels. If you just keep playing and doing some Arena from time to time, your decks will get better anyhow. So eventually you will start climbing the ladder anyway.

The silent composer

I wonder why no one has mentioned Blizzard yet. The music of their games has always been spot-on. From the doom filled scifi synths of Starcraft 1 to the happy semi-folk tunes of Hearthstone. One of my best gaming moments: walking into Stormwind for the very first time and hearing the choir starting to sing.

Having loads of fun in DS2, really don't understand the fuss. If people are so hung-up on graphics, why don't they just wait for the reviews before buying it. Demos are almost always better than the final product. Demos are marketing, guys.

Day9 did a nice little trick the other day. In one move he played Leeroy Jenkins (Battlecry: 2 whelps for your opponent) and next Unleash the Hounds. This is pretty effective if your opponent already has 2 or 3 minions.

I've been avoiding looking at DS2 articles, screens and movies. Only thing I know is: the gameworld is much bigger than DS, combat is subtly different, and there's a boss called the Mirror Knight. I don't want to know anything more.

I want to play this game without any outside help, like wikis or YouTube. Pretty sure I'll need outside help anyway :(

World of Warcraft was a defining game of its generation

Ostinato

I never liked RPGs, but one day some news program on Dutch television had an item on WoW. They showed some footage of 40 people fighting a big dragon (must have been Onyxia) and I remember thinking 'I want to experience that!'

It was Vanilla WoW. I started a Night Elf Druid and played to level 10 on Teldrassil. Cost me a week. Yup, I was a total noob. I didn't even know I could heal myself, untill someone told me after I died like 10 times in a row in Ban'Ethil. Made some online friends. It was truly magical.

Then I discovered the game map and I saw that Teldrassil didn't even cover 5% of the game world. My jaw dropped.

I've been playing it for 4 years, did some progressive raiding, but could not keep up with my guild. This game can be like a second job.

Then, suddenly, I got bored. I tried to get back into it a few times, but the magic was gone.

My 1st year in WoW is still the best gaming experience I ever had.

@Jacan Can't say for all the other AC games as I only played 1 and 3, but I found AC3 a lot more fun than the boring and repetitive AC1.
