| @bananaraincoat ah, fair. I would still wonder though, if DLSS couldn't help portable mode at all? Is it just not worth the extra processing required? Or would it maybe be worth it to upscale, say, 480p to 720p? Maybe not. I guess we'll find out. |

Death Stranding sequel is reportedly "in negotiations"
In Theory: is 4K DLSS really viable for a next-gen Switch Pro?

| It's a great video. I may have missed it, but is there any reason you couldn't use DLSS in portable mode? As if you could, could you not upscale a 720p image to a 1080p screen? |

Quake celebrates 25th anniversary with new enhanced edition, out today
| @the_ewan and in any case, 'being able to play Quake' isn't enough of mind-blowing development to justify such an orgasmic reaction, lol, imo. Bethesda gave Quake away for free a year or so ago on PC. And this upgrade costs nothing if you have the original. So I got it for free, to keep forever. So, yeah, you'll have to excuse my lack of astonishment. |

@the_ewan eh, fine. It doesn't interest me personally, I have far more games now than I can possibly play, so paying a subscription to temporarily have access to a few more, which I won't get to keep afterwards, doesn't interest me at all. I get that's it's good value for lots of people though, not trying to talk it down. |

eFootball's early autumn launch "basically a demo", Konami says
|
@riccyb0y I don't think that's right mate. The current gen versions of fifa will have features that the last gen versions won't, because they're not possible on that older hardware. It's why it's disappointing that the last gen version is coming to pc (if you have a good gaming PC, that is) If you have an engine that has to work on a mobile phone, of course you're not going to be able to do things you could on a modern-ish cpu/gpu like in a PS5. |

|
@riccyb0y well put it this way - the new version of FIFA on PC is the last gen version, because they want as many people as possible, with old hardware, to be able to play it. The PS5/XSX versions will have a more advanced engine, better ai, and other stuff I can't remember right now. The point is, if it has to run on a mobile, that's presumably a constraint. You could maybe for e.g. have a more advanced physics engine if it was just current gen consoles and equivalent+ spec PCs. So yeah, eFootball will presumably have higher res on better machines, better textures and effects and whatnot. But the game engine will presumably have to run on really weak hardware, and that is presumably a constraint. Presumably 😅 Know what I mean? So yeah, not encouraging from my perspective. Hope it's just bad comms, doesn't seem that's the case though. |

|
@riccyb0y well if you can play against people using a mobile then it is, in some respects, a mobile game. You'd have thought there would be severe limits to what you can do with the game if it has to run on a phone. I haven't followed this closely at all, but it doesn't exactly sound encouraging. I guess time will tell. |

It's the small details that might just make Switch OLED worthwhile
| @Rob_Nomad yeah this is my worry. They did lots of versions of the 3ds, gameboy etc, so it still feels possible.... really not sure what to expect though. |

| @OnlyJoeKing I'm mulling over getting an OLED Switch with a grip to make it feel more solid... joy cons aren't quite as good as normal controls for handheld though, so it still wouldn't be perfect. |

Anyone think there will be an OLED Switch Lite? I only really use my Lite now, much prefer the way it feels because the joy cons have always felt a bit wobbly on the main Switch. And it has a proper D pad. A Switch lite with bigger OLED screen and the ability to connect to the telly would be my dream Switch. Or in other words, a Switch with permanent built in controls. |

Spec Analysis: Steam Deck - can it really handle triple-A PC gaming?
|
@septimus lol wtf? That's very odd. It doesn't play nicely with my ultrawide monitor, so this looks like a good option |

| Don't think it's trying to be a switch killer, tbf. They're trying to establish a new market, for handheld gaming PCs, which would be a big win for valve in the long run if it took off. |

| @Lync I'm thinking of it more as an 'older' games machine. Cutting edge stuff I'd rather play on a proper pc or a console, but this looks like an amazing door to an absolutely massive back catalogue. |

How to pre-order Steam Deck, Valve's handheld gaming PC
| @StooMonster yeah I'm curious about the glass too. Do the regular models even have glass, or is it plastic? Haven't seen it anywhere mesself. I'll probably go the big storage model anyway tbf. |

Steam Deck's £349 price point was "painful", Gabe Newell says
| Any ideas why it doesn't have adaptive sync? Seems most every gaming monitor has at least freesync, but portable consoles never do. Is it really that hard/expensive to do on a small machine? |

| I really, really wish there was a OLED model. I guess it just wasn't practical for some reason - maybe some supply/manufacturing value equation. Well, still gonna get one; hopefully it's a massive success and we'll see an OLED screen on the next gen version. |

Pathologic 2 looks really interesting. It's about £9.50. Happened to be watching Mandalore's review last night, so picked it up! You don't need to have played the first one. A sort of surrealist fever dream survival game based in a Russian/Eastern-European village... I think!? Looking forward to it. Kind of wish I'd not watched the review, so maybe if it sounds interesting, just check out the gameplay mechanics section to see if it's up your street. |

Don't buy the X8 for PS5. Unless it's been fixed since I had one, it doesn't work with rest mode. Crashes every time, and you lose your place in the game. I went with a normal ssd in a separate enclosure in the end, and it works perfectly. Edit: Apparently it's been fixed! In that case, go nuts. It's a lovely drive. Smooth, like a pebble. Oh baby. Bit sad it didn't work when I had it. Oh well. |

Nintendo Switch Pro reveal expected before E3
|
@Brundle no mate. I don't have stick drift, they work fine. They just feel slightly loose when attached to the console itself. And the left one slides up too easily which is slightly annoying when you press the power button. These feel like minor issues but it kind of makes it hard to love the thing, you know? I like the Switch Lite a LOT more for handheld play, it feels much nicer and more solid. |

I like the idea of a Switch Pro, but - and this might be a weird opinion tbh - what puts me off is the joy cons. They've gone a bit wobbly on my original Switch. And I hate it! I hate it so much. I bought a Switch Lite just to have a handheld that felt nice... in the hand! So I'd love a Switch Lite Pro, if that's not a contradiction... with an HDMI out. |

Yes please! Got to love a good portable console. Hopefully it's a more 'premium' concept than the Switch. And if it works with your existing Steam library, wow, what a prospect that would be! SUPREME build quality, please! Best in class materials, lovely tactile buttons. A nice 1080p 120hz OLED screen. With VRR. And HDR. Oh baby. You can but dream. |

Hands on with Total War: Warhammer 3's fiery new survival battles
| @Avaloner I'm sure it COULD be done. But SHOULD they spend the time and money to make it happen? Doesn't seem worth it. How many people use a mouse & keyboard with a console? And everyone else will have a terrible experience. Obvious pass, I'd have thought. |

|
@Avaloner can't really imagine how they could work well with a controller. Never say never, I guess, but they're pretty frantic to play. Starcraft, for e.g., is pretty shit on console (though I think it did get a port!?) The decent cpu in the new Xbox and ps5 means it could probably run. Just can't see it being a particularly enjoyable experience. So given the amount of work that would be involved, I doubt it would ever happen. These games are SO GOOD though. They're literally worth buying a PC for. System seller! :D |

@PossibLeigh well, I'm glad someone got it, lol. "fine absurdist humour", though! I am flattered sir. Eloquently put. It was indeed a joke.... Annoying the PC directors cut hasn't been announced yet. I was about to give it a go, but now feel like I need to wait some indeterminate period of time for the full release.
