Capcom defends, explains Street Fighter x Tekken on disc DLC

Nikator

RE, the arguments that they factor this into the development costs.

These are hardly massive expansion campaigns that compare to other types of games. They must already predict to be in profit before making and planning for the sales of the 12 characters, incase not many buy it because of a fiasco like this. Furthermore these are predominantly (if not all!) characters whom have already had previous art designs (yes they need adapting, cell shading) and who already have move rosters from other games. It cannot be that expensive to code in 12 new fighters or even adopt them from the existing models. Frankly games like these should be giving you as much content as possible to fill up the disc to add to the replay value- if it was an RPG I would perhaps empathise given new areas etc, but its not, whilst CD Projekt hand out free DLC to their customers etc.

@jaguarwong , As long as the puzzles stay fresh and invigorating yes. But I worry that the following quote:
'Eventually we have to use all these powers in conjunction with one another. Switching to the fluffy dimension allows us to throw a safe in the air, and a quick switch to the slow motion dimension allows us to jump atop it as it flies through the air. Finally, toggling between the anti-gravity dimension and the normal world keeps the safe airborne as it bobbles up and down, allowing us to surf it to our destination.'
Could turn into a form of gameplay where we end up simply remembering which buttons of the controller to hit in what order as fast as possible to finally get through the stage. It has to be pulled off well.

Could be good, as long as they haven't got ahead of themselves and made the concepts too tricky. Portal works because the 'portal' mechanic itself is so simple but the puzzle can be complex. Over-complicated mechanics could detract from what could be a brilliant game. But lets hope not :D

Can SSD Upgrades Boost PS3 Performance?

Nikator

With all the talk of next gen and improved specs for the new consoles its areas such as these that I think developers should be tackling. Rage and Skyrim, plus many others are more than good enough for gamers too enjoy. In my opinion we shouldn't be pushing for even better graphics but should be working on greater draw distances, textures, pop in etc. Skyrim is wonderful to look at, but when bushes and grass are spawning visibly and popping in it breaks the immersion somewhat. I'd rather something that looked like Skyrim and had no pop-in, greater draw distances etc than something that looks like CGI but we have the same problems as now breaking immersion.

I'm not usually one for collectors editions and whatnot but I might have to pick up the Dark edition of this- just to show support for a developer with some moral fiber and that gives thought to its 'gamers' and not 'customers'

@Zephro
Citing the article Arcam used: '"In the past one of the artists actually coded up some experimental stuff just on his own time and was like, 'Oh that actually works really well,'" he revealed.

"Just on his own time, not officially, so I don't think we're particularly scared about that problem."'
I don't see how it would be a problem, left and right triggers as mouse buttons, twisting and zoom on right stick, movement on left stick. Then standard buttons for groupings or unit abilities.

@arcam , Thanks for the article- an interesting read. I wonder if they are still considering it- not everyone has a good PC in this day with laptops prominent but most homes have a console. And looking at Assassins creed or other games Historical settings does seem to be something that interests more than just the hardcore gamer.

FPS mode sounds unbalanced imo. Also why are these games not available on consoles. I can't justify a PC just for this franchise but loved RTW. (The last one my laptop could actually run..)

Iwata: Nintendo won't be drawn into expensive tech race with Wii U

Nikator

For me Nintendo always suffers from non-first party games- which are generally poor ports due the lacking tech. Perhaps if Nintendo put more into a community type feature similar to XBLA, indie or other games this could be remedied. My Wii has gathered dust but if I could have gotten my Bastion, Limbo and surely many other fixes before I finally invested in an Xbox it would have kept me playing.

EDIT: I think Baleoce made my point better than I did, and sooner.

This looks intriguing, I certainly like the premise. Whilst the trailer on this page is interesting- the fact they put Death onto so many famous works of art such as Trajans Column or the Bayeux Tapestry alludes to this being somewhat more than a mindless hack'n'slash. I might just have to check out the first game.

New Street Fighter X Tekken gameplay

Nikator

I might get a lot of criticism for this, but other than a graphics polish- I can't see how fighting games have evolved for a long time.. I recently played my friend at Tekken (6?) and could beat him because the controls were exactly the same as Tekken 2. Personally I can't see myself spending 40 on something so similar...

(if anyone could disprove me and enlighten me to as how fighting games have advanced then much appreciated!)
