Heart of the Swarm "unlikely" for 2011

MrCarrot

"What is that video they are watching about? Looks like space ship battles?"

It's Star Battle, a DoTA-esque custom map for SC2. Not really sure how it's relevant to a story about Heart of the Swarm.

I don't expect them to be paid as much! :) I think my problem is actually just that football punditry is almost universally lacking any insight or wit.

MrCarrot - the GSL prize pool is waaay more than £50,000. :)

Aye, I should have said the winner's prize money.

I'm not saying I'm surprised that Tastosis are good, btw. They're being paid to do something they obviously love! I'm more annoyed that mainstream sports commentary is so bad.

I doubt they're (Artosis & Tasteless) casting GSL for peanuts, they're pro casters, I think a part of the subscription fees is used to pay them.

Compared to what mainstream TV pundits are paid, I wouldn't be surprised if they are. Given that the prize money for the whole tournament is only £50,000, I can't see them being paid anything close to what the likes of the MoTD lot get paid.

"Artosis and Tasteless are quite simply fantastic, and offer a consistently more entertaining commentary than most other sports casters."

A thousand times, this. Considering they're presumably doing it for comparatively peanuts they put the likes of Hansen and Shearer to shame.

Can someone let me know if the borked controls have been fixed when running the game on an imported PS3 please?

Borked how?

IIRC the X button only registered as a button press if you pressed it at the same time as Circle, or some such weirdness. It was only on Asian machines though.

"In the same way as the 'America fuck-yeah!' style hollering you hear piloting the gunship in the first one, which is meant to make you feel a little uneasy, or shooting at television sets.

There's a pretty sophisticated level of irony going on there."

As much as we lily-livered liberals may have found the gunship stuff pretty unsettling, I understand IW's actual reasoning for including it was: 'It was cool'.

'"As with all of Codies' recent output, Dragon Rising's presentation is sparse yet exemplary"

Say what? I take it the reviewer hasn't heard about DiRT 2 or GRID? They are obviously in an entirely different genre, but Codemasters games nonetheless, and sporting some of the best graphics out there - at least in the racing genre.'

Miths, the bit you quoted is talking about the menus isn't it? He's not dissing the graphics - he's praising the menu design!

Risen

Does EG have something against European RPG's?

I put off buying The Witcher for ages because all I knew about it was that it got a mediocre review here. Then found it was one of the best western RPG's for years after I picked it up recently - easily on a par in most respects with Bioware's recent stuff.

Well, as a great man once said: There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably Tennessee - fool me once, shame on m... shame on you. Fool me... you can't get fooled again!

I'll be picking up Risen, just as soon as finances allow.

As for the save issue, I will say one thing: in case of both PS3 and X360, today's average high-end PC has TEN TIMES their RAM.

The average high-end PC has 5GB of RAM? I better upgrade.

That would make it difficult to have Robot vs Pirate battles, as both contestants would fall in both categories.

But robot pirates vs monkeys would still be a possibility; throw in some /\/\0t0rb1k3s and/or jetpaks and you're onto a winner.

Yes, but with motion blurring on a non-arcade game it won't look sharp at all, and it won't look real.

Of course it will, that's how film works; very few film frames depicting any sort of rapid motion are 'sharp' if you view them individually. View them in sequence at 25/30fps and the eye is fooled into seeing a 'sharp' picture. I agree with the devs here, next-gen motion blur should make consistent 'low' frame rates more tolerable.
