@IronSoldier Of course that Play4Real 'interview' was a very obvious parody that also said the Stampers spent their time nowadays trolling YouTube comments and had Tim claiming he wanted to hire Grant Kirkhope as his butler, but don't let that stop you.

I played the demo and deleted after 3 mins. terrible, terrible game. I feel sorry for anyone who pays good money for this trash.
Downloaded the demo, loved it, bought it. First time I've done that in God knows how long. Yeah, it's a very old style of gameplay, but once in a while that's fine by me :)

Fighting Fantasy: Blood of the Zombies Review

MisterFahrenheit

Much as it pains me, it's time to pull out the anally retentive editing hat... and that's not a hat you want to wear. Or smell.

"It's been seven years since the last Fighting Fantasy novel, apparently"

I think Night of the Necromancer was the last original one, in 2010. They've republished a load of them and added a few new ones in the last decade. But it has been seven years since Ian Livingstone's last one (Eye of the Dragon).

"22 years ago, my friends and I used to gather in WHSmiths after school where the green spines lurked, their names beckoning us towards blood-soaked - and moderately priced - adventure. Deathtrap Dungeon, City of Thieves, Howl of the Werewolf!"

Howl of the Werewolf was one of the new breed tacked on at the end of the republished FFs, only came out in 2007... so how did you see it in WHSmiths 22 years ago, Donlan? OMG ANSWER ME THAT

Lost Humanity 5: Being THEM

It's that vicious last line that spoiled it for me - really enjoyed it up to that point, and was expecting a few heartwarming hints at the wonders these people are missing by only ever skimming the surface of CoD and Angry Birds and Wii Sports, but got that instead. Felt like it came out of a completely different article, and not in a good way.

Manic Miner 360: Revisiting a Classic

MisterFahrenheit

Lovely article, Mr. Donlan sir. Lots of heart in there.

Saw this not long ago while browsing the XBLIG channel between the fingers of a facepalm (surely the accepted way to do it) - the Elite name made it look official, but I'd heard bugger all about it and I can't remember ever seeing a 'proper' game (existing IP from a known publisher) on XBLIG before. Guess they didn't even bother trying the XBLA route.

240 MSP is a stretch, but it is a classic... sod it, grabbing it tonight. Let's see what the kids make of that bad boy!

This one's going to be cack though, sorry Ian, yours never were all that :(

Much-loved indie video game shop Game Focus shuts down

MisterFahrenheit

That 'indie road trip' feature is a fantastic idea. Nobody likes seeing these places go bust, and half the time it's because they're so low-profile. There's an amazing little retro place in an indoor market in Sutton Coldfield, but I never see another soul in there - don't even know how it's hung on this long, but it'd better stick around a bit longer because there's a saucy little Neo Geo Pocket Color I've got my eye on.

"Who is going to teach this curriculum?"

Exactly what worries me. A large percentage (I was going to say majority, but I know they're not all as clueless as mine were) of existing ICT teachers left to compose their own teaching material will inevitably fall back on what they know and have been teaching for years. There are going to have to be some bloody good retraining crash courses taking place at some point.

Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk announced for iPhone, iPad and Android

MisterFahrenheit

No no no no no. Looks fine, no problem with it being on iPhone (really, who expected anything else from a long-dead franchise) and inordinately pleased they've kept the original Dizzy logo.

But so very, very slow and surely it wouldn't have killed them to chuck in a couple more frames of jumping animation. Completely knackers the impact.

I had to buy and read all the other books before Forest of Doom (even House of Hell) because I was shit-scared of the Shapechanger on the cover.

Contemporary FF fanzine action! Guaranteed to keep you more occupied than you intended.

http://fightingfantazine.bravehost.com/F...
There were at least three Lone Wolf games on the Spectrum - text adventure versions of Flight from the Dark and Fire on the Water, and an arcade adventure jobbie called Mirror of Death.

Gamebooks are still alive - the FF series has had a bunch of new titles added since it was republished, and big cheesy licences like Doctor Who and Beast Quest occasionally drop an interactive story into the book range.

Nice work devs, it looks like a dog and reeks of Time Fighters or whatever that shitty old scrapper with comedy stereotypes was called. Time Killers, that was it. Bloody Time Killers.

I'd be happy to pay for more glorious, atmospheric 2D Samurai Shodown (new or remade) on XBLA, but I'm not condoning this malarkey with my cold hard cash.

MisterFahrenheit

This is a really fun game, with a lot of gore (not like the movie). If you liked Conan then you gonna adore this.

Me, me! I loved Conan. That makes this a must-buy... when it's 20 quid.

Also, Wolverine film was better than I expected despite rubbish Blob and boy band version of Gambit (not spoilers, they're in the trailer - unlike the Deadpool thing).

the average budget for making and marketing a game these days is USD million

USD how many?

Also, no way the Wii would be flooded with so much cheap awful tat if it was all haemorrhaging money for the publishers. Maybe he's just saying it to make them think twice about releasing their cheap awful tat.

Where?!

Plenty of copies going for £7.99 in my local Gamestation. Just waiting for a gap in my gaming timescale, which doesn't seem to be coming up any time soon. I know, for that price I should just buy it anyway - I paid more than £7.99 for Street Fighter II on the Spectrum, and that was serious gash.

Wii Christmas Roundup

MisterFahrenheit

The only thing more depressing than the amount of shite being peddled for the Wii is this confirmation that people will never stop complaining about content that costs them nothing and nobody's forcing them to read. If you've got proof that these games were reviewed using time and money officially set aside for High-Profile Game X, great; if not, please, spare us the tedious 'outrage'.

I pretended to read Nausea at university as well. Obviously this means I only enjoyed reading these reviews because Ellie is a girl and I'm desperate.

FFTA's story might have been balls, but it still hooked me enough to play for 140 hours. 140 HOURS. That's, like, a week. So it's not true to say it's a game without an audience - some of us SRPG dabblers love the art, love the setup, love the battling but fear the inch-thick rulebooks and heavy duty strategy. So, even if it is very slightly gay, I'll still be grabbing me a copy of this pronto.
