PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds dev introducing tougher anti-hacker measures

Mekanik

@Durandle I suspect this will be a similar statement to VAC. No appeals, no chance of ban being lifted.

However, VAC can be appealed, quietly, and I suspect this will be no different. Just making the official stance a bit more clear I suppose.

Managed to get in on the first day (queue was only 2k) and create my characters. Played for an hour before heading out. Great memories.

12k queue's now have put me off. Will try again once it quietens down a bit.

Also, took my 16 days /played the first time round to hit 60. I would think it would be a little faster this time round, if i play.

Eurogamer's game of the year 2016

Mekanik

@jabberwoky What. Like Overwatch, which only has cosmetic unlocks which have no impact on the gameplay at all.

Every single character has the same abilities the day you buy the game as someone who has played it for 6 months solid. Zero change.

CS:GO Lounge drops skin gambling following Valve crackdown

Mekanik

As sad as it is to see CSGOLounge disappear, its still a skin gambling site, albeit with match betting, which is different.

The problem with CSGOLounge is that, before it, there were no issues with match fixing. Since its inception there have been a few scandals, and outside tier 1 matches, there have been a few accusations and the like going around of match fixing. Not good.

Something to add to your article. The parent company which owns Virtus Pro (one of the most popular CSGO pro teams in the world - from Poland) also owns 90% of CSGOLounge. A clear conflict of interest when it comes to entry to Valve majors (Pro teams/players/organisers are instructed by Valve to NOT have anything to do with large quantity skin gamblers and sites).

Anyway, the sooner any form of gambling on esports is properly regulated the better. If it means sites like CSGOL fall by the wayside on the way, so be it.

WESA is a new FIFA-style governing body for esports

Mekanik

I would say this is a good idea, if it wasnt for the fact that ESL is the only organiser of tournaments currently at the table, and they wield far too much power (2 of the 4 board members are from ESL, and the 4 board members pick the chairman...).

Theres no faceit, ESEA, CEVO, MLG, NA Org`s, Asia Org`s, etc. The list goes on.

Also, its "for the players" yet the only player owned CS:GO team (Astralis) are not included.

Smacks of money to me.

Blizzard closes popular vanilla World of Warcraft pirate servers

Mekanik

@mega-gazz I think that pretty much hits the nail on the head.

I am still subbed but pretty much quit playing about xmas time. I am bored. Its all so easy to jump in to whatever that its boring.

People dont talk to each other (outside of guilds/friends), dungeon and raids are full of people being carried and/or toxic, which ruins the fun.

Class imbalances are the least of the problems of the game now.

I`ll give Legion a chance, but i doubt it will keep my attention for too long.

Valve fires Dota2 commentator, Gabe Newell calls him "an ass"

Mekanik

@tomjones83 Cracking a joke about wheelchair porn and masturbation amongst your mates in the pub might be a giggle, but doing it in a professional setting (any professional setting) is stupid. Doing it on a live broadcast being watched by thousands of people around the world, many of them quite young most likely, is career suicide.

I am sure when he was told "be yourself" they meant the style of presentation, the "banter" etc. Not "be as lewd as you would down the pub with your mates".

These attitudes are why eSport pro`s and presenters are killing it off before it even gets started.

Some countries in Europe are even starting to broadcast on their national tv channels. Crap like this will not encourage more to do likewise.

And yes, Gabe calling the guy an ass probably wasnt the best idea either.

eSports in general need an overhaul when it comes to attitudes from both the pro`s and the casters.

Too many people think that "banter" is completely acceptable no matter how far it gets pushed.

If eSports wants to be taken seriously clowns like this (and there are many others still involved in the various games) need to be removed and a line drawn which shows that this kind of toxic and abusive behavior is not acceptable.

Its no wonder that the 12 year olds getting in to online gaming develop arsehole attitudes when those at the top of the scene act like stupid, abusive man-children.

World of Warcraft: Legion release date leaked - report

Mekanik

@Kremlik Well, there is definitely 1 more pvp season to come (judging by the achievements) which is a minimum of another 3 or 4 months? So, in my mind, earliest possible would be around April. Thats not so bad, but Sept is way too late. Already players are dropping because they are fed up with the current content.

World of Warcraft, nine years later: Can I get a res?

Mekanik

@ARumFellow No. Not in the slightest. I made many online friends during that time, including Berty, and a lot of those I have met (numerous times) and kept in touch with, even though some dont play anymore.

There was a big sense of satisfaction and a lot of fun had by all during the early years of wow and some of the best bits of gaming ive ever had and I will never forget.

DreamHack's Hearthstone tournament winner accused of cheating

Mekanik

The chat in hearthstone has always been rather poorly thought out. Its my one gripe with the game.

And its a bit of a Bliz/Dreamhack fail in the first place to allow messages in the first place during competitive play.

At least now maybe something will be done about it.

Sony attacks Xbox 360 content policy

Mekanik

Too many fanboy comments tbh.

I own both. The ps3 has become a glorified blu-ray player. I used to game on the xbox all the time but even that has cooled now i own a decent pc. MS (and Sony) are guilty of trying to corner markets for their own benefit. Why else are there still exclusives at all? Surely if both companies are so sure their platform is the best they should just let developers make games as good as they want for their own repective console and let us, the consumers, decide what we like best.

Put their faith in their products rather than use sneaky whining or dodgy procedures to make their console appear to be the best.

Driver dev defends Ubi DRM, online pass

Mekanik

I work on a boat which is thinking on getting a PC for gaming. Yippee i said. Then told them to not bother because it wont have a permanent internet connection, if any at all. This makes playing games with heavy DRM impossible.

Yes there are games out there that can be played, but its going to be a pain in the arse to play anything if the (stupid) IT dept dont allow internet access. So if a PC is bought, it`ll be filled with pirated games purely because people will get pissed off with it soon enough. Oh well. I`ll stick with the consoles, and even then i cant play DLC i bought thats on my xbox HDD as i need to have an internet connection to play that stuff too.....

DRM punishes customers, no one else. Someone might learn that one day.
