Not bad. Will watch again. Things I noticed:- Tell Bratt to keep his head still. He looked like a Thunderbirds puppet. Bratt/Walsh segment was a bit echoey. Not enough Higton. |

Retrospective: Midwinter
| Ah memories. This was the first game that actually caused real fear for me. I'm scared of heights in real life and skiing off the edge of a cliff in this used to scare the shit out of me. Sheer brilliance and a real shame it isn't held in higher regard. |

@smelly I agree that the jumping around in front of the TV aspects of Natal will appeal more to kids but I don't think you're seeing the bigger picture. Whilst holding an imaginery steering wheel doesn't appeal personally, I can get behind head tracking with racing games that allows you to look around in the cockpit view without clumsily clicking buttons or using the analogue stick. Another example would be using hand gestures to order AI team mates in games like GRAW. Surely you can see the benefit of stuff like that? |

"I suppose with GAME you have more chance of getting a game than a film from your list" Sounds like you need to set up multiple lists. Specify 1 from your film list and 1 from your game list (or just specify 2 from the game list if you're in a gamey mood) and problem solved. |

Capcom explains why Talisman was binned
|
The manufacturing rights for the board game were recently sold to Fantasy Flight Games (but before it was announced the game was being scrapped). Coincidence? I can see what they mean by the 3 hour play time though. Could have been easily remedied with turn time limits however. For me this would have been a good way to have a local game with my kids without all the setup time of the boardgame. Shame, but I won't cry myself to sleep over it. |

Banjo Nuts & Bolts demo on Xbox Live
|
My thoughts on a quick go of the demo - I've not played any previous Banjo games Visuals aren't great. Quite a bit of slowdown (mostly during a four vehicle race around the first land and mostly when the other vehicle and/or water on screen). Also jaggies are quite bad. Lovely art style though of course. Reminded me quite a bit of Viva Pinata (although not quite as slick although this is a lot more busy so comparison probably unfair). Gameplay was ok for what I played. The Vehicle workshop is brilliant and I can imagine creating mental vehicles being the games main draw for lots of people. Tried a race and a 'football' game. The race was OK. Took my boys (age 7 & 8) a few attempts to get used to the handling before they won. The vehicles were on long stalk legs so was quite easy to get them tangled up and thrown off track. The football mini game was a bit dull really, entailing getting a oversized footie into a goal while avoiding obstacles. Not much of a challenge. Overall I would say a game for my kids when the price comes down a bit. I imagine you'll love it if you are a Banjo fan though. |

I didn't really 'get' the demo and was a bit meh about it. However, I was bored last night so thought fuck it, it's only £7 and I usually trust Tom's reviews... Really enjoying the full game. Not so keen on the race mode but the challenge mode is brilliant (although I don't think it would appeal as much without the Live leaderboards). I would suggest that if you are a trackmania and/or puzzle game fan this is a good purchase... racing fans i'm not so sure... PS: I checked the intermediate races Darren mentioned and there is indeed t***ing. Which is odd because the level I tried didn't look half as complicated geometry wise as some of the beginner challenge levels and the vehicles aren't exactly million poly masterpieces... Go PS3! :D |
