Is Far Cry 2's tech really more advanced than Far Cry 5's?

JiveHound

I have trouble qualifying less difficult with more satisfying.

I'm playing 4 at the moment and it's clear that it's lost a lot by sanding off all the edges. I will also point out that when making a believable open world there is no such thing as simulation for simulation sake. Overwise just don't make an open world, look at Zelda. A lot og what makes that make what it is is it's simulation of the real world.

As a consequence of softer edges these worlds feel less like worlds and more like theme parks. Fun in a superficial forgettable way.

For once can auto updates actually work for OW? Especially when said updates are 20gbs!
Especially when they stealth release updates so you have to preplan your download.

Why does smashing a monster in the face in Monster Hunter World feel so good?

JiveHound

Absolutely superb looter which rewards player agency as well as being just damn satisfying to not only hit things in the face but to feel a hard fight start to favour you.

Really impressive, even if the vaseline visuals on base xbox is hard to stomach. Maybe an x is soon in my future.

Nintendo Switch, one year on

JiveHound

Bought my Switch when Mario Kart released and do not regret my purchase one bit. Absolutely none of the buyer's remorse I usually associate with Nintendo machines.

The online needs sorting, as does the shop, and Virtual Console needs to hurry the hell up but the basic offering has been landed so well that these issues aren't as bothersome as they could be.

Can't wait to see what comes next. Metroid 4 is out there in the wings....

Max Payne 3 and the conflict at the heart of Rockstar's game design

JiveHound

I thought Max Payne 3 was one the games of the generation and never agreed with EG's modest praise at the time.

The constant custscenes were annoying, especially on replays but they become much less intrusive by the second half of the game.

Is it on backwards compatibilty yet on xbox? I rather fancy another go around.

Big layoffs at Capcom Vancouver, new Dead Rising reduced in scope

JiveHound

Dead Rising 1 continues to be amazing, every so often I'll play through it again. The rerelease at 60fps on current gen consoles is an absolute joy.

They never bettered it in my opinion and farming it out hurt it overall. I quite enjoyed 2 at the time and 3 was knock about fun but lightening was only ever bottled once. I never bothered with 4 and probably be satisfied with further replays of the original for my fix.

Nintendo has announced Nintendo Labo, a bizarre new interactive cardboard toy line

JiveHound

I think it looks like a fantastic idea but the fact it's all cardboard concerns me. All that friction will wear some of it down pretty quickly, surely?

And that's not factoring in water damage, building wrong etc.. Can see it being as frustrating as entertaining but props for thinking outside the box!

Nintendo have been hard to love in the last decade but for me the Switch isn't just a return to form, it's their best console offering yet.

Great games last year, hopefully they can keep up the momentum although it will make the 10 games in 12 months EG challenge all the harder.

This is completely expected to be fair and not really an issue as anyone into games will need to buy bigger storage eventually.

What's lost and what's gained in Destiny 2's excellent PC version

JiveHound

@williamarthurfenton Yup, as you and Rogue both suggested I would agree that Doom feels superior.

Halo 5 does to me too as does Wolfenstein New Order.

Destiny has great FEEDBACK, Bungie are great at the dopamine hit for killing stuff, ie exploding heads but that does not translate to a world beating overall feel imo.

If anything it feels rather sluggish to me. Going from a 60fps shooter to it is like wading through treacle until reaccustomed.
