@TekMerc I'm close to it. I've loved the TT games, but it does seem like this sort of gameplay style will eventually wane if the market gets oversaturated.

That said, I'll still buy it as I am a sucker.

Codemasters closing Bodycount dev

JimWest

7 years ago

@Pastici

If I remember correctly, The Dizzy license is owned by about 3 different companies, sadly it would take all of them to be in agreement to release it all. Unfortunately a lot of politicking and willy waving means it probably won't happen anytime soon.

@Stagga

Good point. It always bothers me when people who aren't fully aware of how the industry works claim they can do a better job. Many game designers, programmers, coders, junior producers & QA have some great ideas for the games, however, they are often overlooked, ignored or just shot down by execs. Quite often these execs, don't touch these games and just spout ideas into what they want, ignoring what will work in the game.I fear BodyCount was another example of the higher uppers, looking at the success of games like COD, and thinking they can cash in on that market, without making sure the game has some identity of its own.

In the end it looks like someone decided they just wanting to cut the studios losses on this game with many 'Will Not Fix' bugs left in the game.

I remember when people played games that they enjoyed, not just to get some achievements for it. I'm sure there are many games he just played for easy 'G' rather than just pure enjoyment.

But I guess if this is what he wants to do, fair play. I'm commenting on an internet article so that says a lot about me.

@freakyzoidYes have to. It'll be the contract that they have with the FIA that states a version must be released every year. Hence the PSP and Wii versions of F1 2009 to fulfil that quota.

That is horrific way of doing it, really feel for the guys. Even if the redundancies were going to happen there are much better and more compassionate ways of letting people know this information. "Activision announced that the Stimulus Package, the first map pack released for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, was downloaded over one million times on Xbox Live in the first 24 hours of its release on March 30.

Priced at $14.99, first-week sales reached 2.5 million downloads in total. The Stimulus Package is currently only available for download on Xbox Live, making these sales all the more impressive for Activision. "

Thats how.

Thinking about this situation more, it just seems like a way Codies can slow down any potential product Playground are working on, so it doesn't coincide one of there big new releases later in the year like F1 or DiRT/Grid. Playground are a small company, this is going to cost money they probably don't have much of just in legal fees, so seems like the best way to stick two fingers up at them for taking some of there best and more experienced devs.

@YenRug

Yes I wouldn't be surprised if Nicholas Wheelwright had that clause in his contract about not working on a rally based game, but i would have thought this would either have been something like 18 months (like most video games based contracts are), 3 years or 5 years, and seeing as he left over 6 years ago, i doubt it would have lasted that long.

I also think it will be very hard to prove that the poaching occured, unless they have emails or recorded telephone conversations (which they would have had to have broken some laws themselves to get.)
3 1

JimWest

I'm just not sure how this can be a lawsuit, I'm not an expert in all the laws in the land, but i'm sure Codies don't really have a chance with this.

Most PS3s bought second-hand - report

JimWest

8 years ago

How do people not understand the simple percentages. 33% is the most because that is the highest percentage of all the options as stated in the article.

33% - Used sales
26% - Freebies (Phone contracts and whatnot)
24% - Full Price
14% - Gift
3% - Competitions
Thus equalling 100%

Out of all of them the section with the MOST is used sales with 33%, with more than any other section. Basic maths.

EDIT : Cleared up a spelling mistake plus a +1 to geeza2020

This quote from the studio intrigues me. Are EA really not going to want a slice of the IP ownership pie?
