A little bit unfair to Caterina Fake isn't it? Co-founder of Flickr and Glitch and spouse of Stewart Butterfield.

Got my alpha pass for this, but the site has been down ever since I got it. If they do for MMOs what they did for photography sites (simple, clean, usable design) they'll be on to a winner.

Kinect doesn't snoop for advertising

Jeepers

I have absolutely no issue with people advertising things to me that I might actually want.

What about the usage data you're effectively *giving away* for nothing? At least Tesco make an attempt to pay you (a pittance) for access to your shopping habits. There's an economic component to privacy as well as the liberty argument.

Fable III

Jeepers

Fable and Fable 2 both had their charms, but both suffered - imo - from some pretty extraordinarily bad design decisions. Having your stash of gold grow even when the game wasn't loaded soon meant that money had no value; customising the character based on the foods you ate brought us back to San Andreas levels of grind-to-customise chores.

He's a great industry figure, but I wish that he'd spend as much time getting the details right as he did imagning the big, high-concept ideas.

I'll still buy it, I'm sure ;)

Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days

Jeepers

The Disgaea games are perfect for handheld machines - but I'd go for D1 over D2, I think. It'll be cheaper, more than complex enough and the characters are (imo) much more entertaining.

D3 on PS3 was fun, but after so many hours on D1 and D2 I never managed to get quite as hooked.

I've enjoyed a lot of SRPGs and a game like this should be a shoe-in purchase from XBLA/PSN. But, Jesus, that art direction is awful. One of the charms of something like Disgaea is the beautiful illustration style; this looks like a tribute knocked up by half a dozen teenage DeviantArters.

I really hope so - I've wanted a decent Aliens games for ages. The movie is perfect for an FPS - it has the atmosphere, lighting, characters and sound design off to a tee.

The reviews of Rogue Warrior have me worried tho'. Do we know if it's the same dev team working on AvP?

@lessofthat, re number of employees:
'Close to zero' was a silly description of my part, but I'd still love to be producing their margins!

200 employees at (say 75,000p/a including NI and servicing and all that guff): 15m p/a.
Office space and infrastructure: Estimate at a high 5m p/a.

I've not counted hosting (I assume that Facebook don't host these apps?), but costs in the region of 20m p/a are still very small compared to their revenue.

Good luck with your business - and remember us little guys when you're counting your gold pieces :)

Jeepers

Or rather, a company which, having announced that it expected to turn over $200 to $250 million, is now actually going to lose somewhere between 20 and 70 per cent of that revenue - and that's assuming the whole affair doesn't hit the mainstream press and cause serious reputation damage.

Even if the worst-case scenario of 70% revenue loss is accurate, the cost of maintaing the business is as close to zero as makes no difference. I'd love to see the P/E but - as you say - they're a private co.

Zynga draws a substantial revenue from their market - whilst the author might not like how they do this, the fact remains that $200m/pa isn't chump-change by any stretch.
