Fan project to get Zelda: Breath of the Wild running on PC shows remarkable progress

| @bad09 OK well I don't agree and I find your arguments to be self-evidently asinine for reasons which are either obvious or already explained. |

|
@bad09 I'm not sure what to tell you. There obviously is competition between Sony, MS and Nintendo. There are competing in every conceivable sense of the word. They may not sell at a marginal loss but they need to sell a whole lot of consoles in order to recoup their r&d and marketing costs. For instance, the Wii U was sold at a marginal profit (the componants, assembly and shipping cost less than the sale price) but the whole thing was probably a big loss for Nintendo overall |

|
@bad09 That's a false comparison because gaming is a market where the software is driven by the sale of consoles. There is no money in console sales. The money comes from licensing fees and game sales. You make the console to get the fees and the game sales, you (the platform holder) create, fund or otherwise drive the games to sell the console. You take that relationship away and you get more expensive, less innovative consoles and poorer quality games. Having said that, phones do compete in a similar way. You want iOS, you need to buy and iPhone. Even Fridges are beginning to sell themselves based on exclusive software (although that is very recent and not yet an established, successful strategy). |

@mega-gazz I would say that it's more that they can't compete on performance and so look to leverage innovation and quality software to gain a competitive advantage. We don't know how well that's going to work this time around. They've got one big win and one big loss so far with this tactic. TBH I don't really disagree with anything you've said there (although "runs like shit" is probably a bit much) and I'm not sure how your comment works in support of your argument against closed platforms. Nintendo want to sell their hardware without offering the best specs so they produce great games and innovative designs to do it. The consumer gets benefit of those games and designs at the cost of having to buy (another) games console. If Nintendo's games were available elsewhere such that they do not act as driver towards their own hardware, they lose the impetus to make these great games and innovative platform designs in the first place. The consumer gets access to all the games but the quality an choice of both games and the hardware is reduced. |

| @mega-gazz people have been saying that for years and in all honesty it's not even that good an idea. The competition in the market drives innovation and quality. |
4
2
| Do some of you understand that if it wasn't for the profits recouped by selling consoles, Nintendo probably wouldn't make games like this in the first place. |
7
8
| @mega-gazz Difficult to see how it's outdated when they are selling their new console like gangbusters on the strength of one game. |
5
5
| @Simatron3000 That's complete and total bollocks. Zelda (and all Nintendo games) are sold partly as a way to promote their systems. That's their business model. You don't get to circumnavigate the requirement to buy a Nintendo system to play Nintendo games and claim it as a moral victory. You're ripping them off, even if you do buy a copy of the game. |

Elite: Dangerous' first Triple Elite player just won £10,000
| I agree with the people who said it's pretty sad. This guy obviously isn't rich, otherwise he wouldn't have dedicated 3 months of his life to trying to win £10,000. And 15 hours a day, every day, for three months is insane |

Ready at Dawn responds to concern over The Order: 1886 campaign length

Nintendo Creators Program lets YouTube users share ad revenue
|
Whilst I agree with the argument that these videos bolster the Nintendo brand and that Nintendo would be well advised not to seek to restrict them by any means, at the end of the day, it's Nintendo's content and they can do with it whatever they deem to be best for them. And as the business side of Nintendo has been staffed by avaricious, anti-consumer, darkage dwelling, wrong-headed cunts since the early eighties this sort of thing is what you should expect from them. If you don't like it, tough shit, it's their ball and they can piss on it if they want. They are nobheads though. |

@Jazzy_Geoff To answer my own question. Galaxy 2 and Metroid x 3 are Wiimote/Nunchuck only, therefore rendering this offering useless to mine person. Nintendo, you've done it again. Thannks to the others, who answered this query. That's me done. Over and out. Good day to you all. |

RIGHT _ I need confirmation immediately. Are these games going to be controllable using the gamepad or will I have to wave the Wiimote at the tiny lickle gamepad screen like a fucking mug if I want to employ "off-screen play". In short, are there any advantages to buying these over owning the original discs, which I already have in most cases? |

Miyamoto says Nintendo didn't focus on online because it "would have limited the size of the audience that could enjoy those features"
|
@ronorra Aye There people who think Nintendo are all sweetness and light because their games are full of smiles and primary colours are clearly ignorant of their history. In the hey day of the NES and the SNES Nintendo were utter, utter bastards in dealing with their third parties culminating in the public humiliation of Sony in favour of Phillips over the playstation project. We all know what happened next but just in case, Sony made the machine anyway and took all the third parties with them. |

The Witcher 3: The Skyrim debate, the game on PS4, nuggets of clarification and a whiff of multiplayer
|
hmmm...hubris. It's probably not a popular opinion because hipster nerds seem to have it in for Bethsheda but Skyrim is probably my favourite game ever. I love it. And to say the quests are generic...I don't agree, sure there are plenty of mundane tasks out there is you want them but there are literally dozens of fully fledged questlines, with excellent storyline. many of which are almost throwaway. Stuff like frostflow, a night to remember, the thieves guild, in the mind of madness. All brilliant. I'm sure The Witcher 3 will be a very nice game but lets not get carried away. |

Valve-backed Xi3 Piston console starts at $1000
| Even if I was otherwise interested in this (which I'm not) the linux thing just means I can't even consider this. Would I like a neat little box to sit under my TV to play my steam library on? yes. For a $1,000 and with support for only a fraction of my library - hell no. Isn't linux support on steam still in it's infancy? Who the hell would buy this, I don't get it? |
