People buy games consoles based on how good the reveal is!?! Microsoft, give me a call when I can play Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Last of Us, Uncharted, Ni No Kuni, Bloodborne, Death Stranding, Yakuza, Last Guardian, Persona and my personal favourite Everybody's Golf. Exclusives on Xbox dried up years ago. The PS4 is still going strong even after the superior Xbox X hardware. Playstation for the unique experiences and PC for everything else. |

Watch the Assassin's Creed Valhalla trailer reveal here
| I enjoyed Odyssey, Black Flag and Brotherhood. Given how detailed the recent Assassins Creed games have been, I'd like to see one set in ancient India - Indus Valley assassins take on the invading Aryans in a final last ditch attempt to prevent the eventual collapse of their civilization. |

Sony unveils PlayStation 5's wireless DualSense game controller

PlayStation 5 system details coming tomorrow via livestream
|
I'm looking forward to the reveal, although I have no intention of buying the PS5 on release. My plan is to purchase it around 18 months after release. My PS4 Pro is still going strong and I am currently playing through games, having returned from work abroad recently. My back catalog is: God of War, Shenmue 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, Uncharted 4, Ni No Kuni 2, and Yakuza 0. I'm looking forward to Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima*. I have no intention of purchasing an Xbox regardless of price or power, unless it can match the above caliber of games, although I will be purchasing the Microsoft Flight Simulator in 2021, pending new laptop purchase. *Please be good, Please be good. |

Vodafone is chucking in a PS4 with the Sony Xperia 5 in its Winter Sale
|
@carrot1401 I hadn't realised mobile providers can just increase prices mid-contract. Thanks for pointing that out. I have no intention of buying it. I'm on an £8 Giffgaff monthly deal. The £35 extra I would have spent on this is enough to feed my family for 2 weeks. Or may be I'll buy a couple of over priced Switch games. Difficult decision. |

The cynicism in me kicked in and I attempted to work out the maths: This deal: £43 x 24 months + £29 = £1061 Standalone: PS4 + FIFA 20 = £200 Sony Xperia 5 (black 128GB) = £700 Unlimited phone plan £26 x 24 months = £624 TOTAL = £1,524 Seems like a good deal saving £463 if you're prepared to be tied down to Vodafone. |

Xbox Series X rewrites the rules of console design - and the power level should be extraordinary
|
All that power, yet I'm still pressing x to jump. Gaming hasn't changed much in 20 years. I'm pressing the same buttons in games with better graphics. I can't wait for a remake of the remake of Resident Evil 2 in 4k running at 30fps. Same buttons, better grafix. |

Games of the Decade: The refreshingly unfiltered Witcher 3
|
Witcher 3 shouldn't be on this list. It's not a game of the decade, it's the game of the century. I very much doubt we'll see anything like this - the scale, the richness of the world and the variety of stories along with brilliant visuals and sound. Witcher 3 is an experience; all the others on this list are just games. |

Konami: Don't blame us for pulling PES 2019 from PS Plus, it was Sony's call
| This is disgusting and disgraceful. I blame the management for this terrible decision in the last minute. I've been a supporter for 20 years and never seen such a poor performance. My son is in tears and heartbroken. I work hard and pay so much to support them and this is what they do. Absolutely disgusting. |

PES 2020 has officially-licensed Manchester United
|
I haven't bought PES since 2017. I don't play FIFA. I will consider purchasing PES 2020 if the following are included: - Game does not fade to black for throw-ins and corners. Instead players can press a button to slow down/speed up the player who is taking the set play to frustrate opponents. - A match can be played immediately after starting the game without going through menus. Better, continue from where you left off. - Abandon the run faster (R1/R2) concept. That what analogue sticks are for. - Abandon difficulty settings and instead rely on strength of teams to dictate difficulty. For an easy game, choose to play against Everton or Man Utd. For a difficult game, play against Barcelona. - Mask scripting in a smarter way. The ball shouldn't defy the laws of physics and relentlessly end up with the opponent after every tackle. Slide tackle, opponent obtains ball, slide again, opponent obtains ball, slide again, opponent obtains ball... - Defenders outpacing attacker even though the stats show defender is significantly slower. - Touch / bar line play should be more precise if the stats say a player has strong technique. It feels like the ball is designed to go out of play as soon as it's any where near the line. - Take out Lukaku, Sanchex and Matic from the Man United team. - New button layout: X to pass, Sq to shoot, O to cross, R1 to modify pass/shoot/cross (R1 + pass can be used for through balls or passing ahead of the player), Right-stick for ball control and skill. Simplify the control system. |

Yes, Witcher 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch
| I spent 315 hours on Witcher 3 over 2 years on PS4. It's the best game I've played this generation and one of the best ever. A large part was due to the detailed world and amazing landscapes and towns/cities. With most games, you can lower the visual detail and quality but still have the same experience. With Witcher 3, any reduction in detail will minimize the experience. |

EA shows off Frostbite engine's next-gen hair
|
In the 30 years I've been playing games, hair has never made a difference to my gaming experience. The PS5, Xbox One 2, 4k @ 60fps, 8K @ 30 fps completely miss the point. Gaming mechanics have barely changed in 30 years. I'm still pressing X to jump. |

Tomb Raider film review - a new kind of game-to-film failure
|
I saw the film today. It's a very good few hours of entertainment and highly watchable. I have to admit, I was slightly put off by this review and the video review on IGN before going to watch it. Glad I did as Tomb Raider is very well made. It just reinforced my opinion that Eurogamer are a bunch of pretentious, highbrow snobs expecting all things to be amazing, all of the time. Killjoys. Tomb Raider is a very good film. Go watch it. |

Microsoft Xbox One X review
|
I ain't spending 400-500 pounds just to press X or A to jump and play older games in more detail. A cliff edge may be sharper on Pro and OneX but I'm still pressing X/A to jump over it. All that power but little progress in gaming mechanics. |

To be honest, I don't quite understand the point of PS4 Pro or Xbox One X. Are Sony and Microsoft saying they messed up the original releases of PS4 and Xbox One and these are the models they should have released? The video mentions Xbox One library. What library? I haven't touched mine in years. Everything on Xbox One is on my Windows/Steam PC and presented better. Also, both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are more powerful, yet why are we still pressing X button to jump in games. The fundamentals of gaming haven't changed in decades. After the initial wow of seeing better grafixs dissipates, I am still pressing X to jump. Who is the target audience for these machines? I don't get the philosophy mentioned in the video. Is this a form of planned obsolescence from both Sony and MS? |

If FIFA 20 on Switch wasn't a clue that EA hates Nintendo Switch owners then charging £45 for a 10 year old game with better graphics should be the bottle over the head moment.
