Dragon Age: Inquisition review

Inmediasress

The review reads like a 6 at best, which would be probably pretty accurate.

The game itself seems like the sort of "focus group inspired artistic integrity" stuff, that Bioware is renown for eversince Mass effect 2.

I knew it was going to be bland when I first read that they are going to copy Skyrim and Oblivion, which are themselves the very definition of bland and boring (at least in gaming terms and without mods).
Mix in some Asssasins Creed style missions and there you have it a game made for mass appeal.
I just don't get it what is wrong with Bioware or more likely the strange management people who think that, this is going to outsell Skyrim+AC+Oblivion together.
Can we please stop chasing the COD crowd for just once!?

The Batman one looks nice enough but this Catwoman is... well for lack of a better term, too Japanese.
He should have made her a bit more "gritty" and less Japanese cosplay kitty.

Edit: By the way now I remember where I have seen that claw, She stole it form Freddy Krueger.

The end of gimmicks?

So now it's official that Kinect failed... phew! Glad that we got that out of the way.
VR will go down the same route.
Although it is far more novel than Kinect, it has still the problems of it.
Namely that it needs games to be constructed from gorund up to use VR.
Then there is the problem of, as someone put "being" in the game rather than controlling an avatar.
I don't know about other people but while I was kind of intrested in the holodec and other stuff you constantly come across in movies and animations, I don't want to allways "be" in the game.
Most of the time I'm completely satisfied by controlling an avatar.
Then there is the problem of moving around, waving and just about anything making you look like an idiot and tiring you out at the same time.
VR is in the same boat as Kinect namely that it is good for everything except gaming.
So in a way I am for VR and Kinect since it was proven that both of them are usefull for training in various fields of life and helping advance medical procedures and so forth.
They are just not very good for relaxing and gaming.
Great for novelty but take that away and it is obvious that they don't really add anything to gaming as we know it.

Well here in Hungary it was pretty predictable that this would happen.
Because most people didn't even go to vote in the first place.
Mind you not because we don't like to exercise our right to vote, but instead because there are no parties that would be worth voting for.
Kind of spectacular and funny in a sad sort of way cause we have a smorgasboard of parties, vying for the opportunity to try their hand at corruption and secure a fat bank account for the rest of their lives, while the country collapses.
In Hungary all of the parties are full of shit, so welcome to our nightmare or democracy depends how you view it.
But let me asure you.
We didn't forget what happened to Hungarian Jews during WW2.

Funny how the only good thing to happen to the whole SW universe namely KOTOR is considered now non-canon.
With the exception of TOR which in itself should be considered non-canon to the KOTOR games.
Still I suppose the franchise (how I hate that word) shouldn't be able to sink any lower... probably.
As far as the new movies go I somehow just don't expect much just another CGI ridden lightsaber laser show.

Risen 3 announced for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, due August

Inmediasress

@KanePaws
Mind you it is not that I hate Skyrim, I just somehow can't comprehend how it can be so interesting.
It feels like a single player MMO which in itself is quite telling.
You just wander around aimlesly and no matter what you do, you don't make the slightest impact on the world, your character or the story.

Similar to "Amalur" or whatever the name was which also incidentally started out as an MMO only to be released as an SP game, which of course failed.

I rember when Skyrim came out everyone was gushing about "OMG!! dragons" like we didn't have countless RPGs were you have dragons.

I suppose Skyrim was the only one that made dragons genreic enough to be large flying ducks that you can shoot with a bow and arrow.

The same with Titanfall that will be the FPS equivalent of Skyrim.
Everyone is "OMG! Mechs" but when you get down to it, it is just another bland fps.
The reviews are trying to bury the games generic nature by heaping hyperbolic praise on it.
Wait a few months after release and you'll have people complaining how it really wasn't that earth shattering.
After that, when the hype dies down you usually get the"re-reviews" telling you that, yeah we did mention it earlier but now we can talk about it more openly that we may have been a bit over enthusiastic in praising it to the high heavens.

Well on the positive side Skyrim did have a fantastic OST, but that hardly makes a game good.
I remember once someone wrote on a forum that “Skyrim is the size an ocean with the depth of a puddle." Now that was the best analogy I ever heard describing that game.

Risen 2 was rather dissapointing it lacked the magic of the fisrt one and the other Gothic games... except Gothic 4 which just used the name.

They promised the same kind of exploration and secrets yet it felt very empty, and quite frankly the sudden change of pretty much, all the lore they built up over the years didn't sit well with me.
I mean the whole plot and theme was just silly.
I really wanted to like the game but just couldn't.
They used to be so great.
I still prefer gothic 1-3 to any of Bethesada's shallow and bland TES games.
Skyrim beeing by far the worst offender, I don't even consider that a game it's more like a game making sandbox template for the modders.

I just realy hope they make it more like their old games and I ceartainly won't buy it until I'm sure of that.

Xbox One's Kinect lets you stand closer to the sensor - report

Inmediasress

I guess now that you can stand closer it can get better mugshots to send to the NSA, just kiding.

That aside anyone whit a lick of sense would know that Kinect is great for everythigng except gaming, in general terms at least.
As before me others mentioned for Kinect to work you need to come up with exclusive "Kinect genre" of games which I just can't see happening.
Not when that would limit the availability of said games on other platforms.
Even if they make the game for other platform with traditional controls, then that would mean that they would have to make basically two different games because of the unique differences.
You can make of course two games but that is double the money and time cost which just doesn't make sense as a business move... Not unless Microsoft wants to bankroll the gaming industry single handedly from their pockets.
So that leaves the AAA games completely and utterly dedicated to Kinect pretty much out of the question.

Lack of support is pretty much guaranteed even if Kinect is mandatory with Xbox One.

The same can be observed with Nintendo and the WiiU, it is dieing on its arse because there is little interest from publishers and devs, cause it just doesn't seem to make enough money. The tablet parts and whatnot are mostly used on inhouse dev projects for the rest it is just an after tought.
Kinect is even in a worse position than the WiiU, from this viewpoint since at least there you don't need to literally invent a new genre of games that can only be played by one console.

EA will continue to make games with an offline mode, Peter Moore insists

Inmediasress

Quite frankly I just feel like there is no place for gamers in the gaming idustry anymore.
I just don't care for all those connected "experiences", never was big on multiplayer nor facebook.
The only thing I want is good games that don't have messages pestering me with online functions and pissing contests.
I really wish the old times were back when a games was either an MMO and people paid "trough their nose" to interact with each other or an SP game where I wasn't bothered by all these "online experiences".
Nowadays every game wants to be an MMO to justify the added microtransactions and DRM that is pretty much the problem.
There is no service to the community here no matter how much anyone tries to explain it away.
Is it really so important for gamers to have MP tacked on every single game or have microtransactions available or facebok integration?
