Quantic Dream addresses Beyond PS4 skin tone changes
It's a fairly arrogant take-away from this event to say that the ends (learning that lighter skin-tones of arab characters were the result of the remaster process) justified the means (implicitly accusing the game's developers of (latent?) racism). I mean by all means pat yourself on the back for your vigilance, but surely a brief moment of reflection would have led you to conclude that this was always the most likely reason. Occam's Razor innit? A teachable moment for us all, no doubt. |

| I wonder how much time Cage had to take away from crafting emotion for Detroit in order to address this tempest in a teacup. If there is even one emotion less in his follow-up game, I will be holding EG personally responsible. |

Transistor, the next game from the creators of Bastion, is out next month
Woah, what a pleasant surprise! Was expecting it for Autumn. Would love to see a walkthrough of the battle system. Is it closer to Bastion or turn-based on tiles? Edit: Ok watched a bit of the linked footage, and it seems to be some hybrid, with pause and command. Seems cool. |

Sony releases "the ultimate balance update" for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
I feel like this game deserved a different business model. Should have given away the base game with the 6 beta characters to lower the barrier to entry, and then sell additional characters after that. Of course they could still have sold the complete edition at retail to please enthusiasts. Both this and Twisted Metal were great online games, but way overpriced given the amount of content. |

The Banner Saga: Much more than you're expecting
Great write-up. The art was definitely what first caught my attention. But after putting in over 100 hours into TBS:Factions, I'm pretty confident the game play will live up to the presentation. The turn-based battle system is engrossing and marrying it to a deep single player campaign set in a Norse-inspired fantasy epic was an inspired decision. I can honestly say that it is my most anticipated release of next year. And right at the beginning too! Lovely price point as well. |

Killzone: Shadow Fall gameplay demoed live on US TV
I'm a pretty big fan of the Killzone series. KZ2 was the first game that really impressed me on the PS3. I think it's fair to criticize Guerrilla for their single player game design though. It's very straight forward, and most of the joy of playing the game is the feel of it. Shooting Helghast in the head is really satisfying. Having said that, it's the multiplayer that is most important. KZ2 is probably in the top 2 or 3 best MP games on the system, but they really faltered with KZ3 - especially with level design. I'd be lying if I said that I'll wait and see how this turns out, because of course if you own a PS4 you will own this game, but I really really hope the MP chases the experience of the second game rather than the third. Finally, the setting of the game looks pretty compelling. I know they made the Berlin comparison, but I couldn't help but think, Killzone: Jerusalem. |

UK chart: Dishonored denied top spot by FIFA 13
I got XCOM for PC, but I'm pretty happy they put so much thought into the control pad interface. I guess that wouldn't have happened unless they also developed the game for the consoles. I'm sure it'll do great business on PC, but I hope that it gets some decent uptake in the console market to inspire more games in the turn-based strategy genre, which works so much better on console than real-time. |
