Yakuza Kiwami is the next best thing to a Shenmue remake

Hamflank

Off-topic: I just started playing (my first) Yakuza 3 and while I rather like it, I was a bit put off by the parts without a voice-over. Are there any Yakuza games that are fully voiced?

Yes, game developers want to make money. Let's bash them for it, because when we go to work, we don't care how much we receive at the end of the month!

You really don't have to spend a dime to build a decent deck in this game. Obtaining packs through dailies and achievements is quite easy. Playing in the Arena (in which you forge your deck from 90 random cards, so everyone starts out equal) can also earn you pretty decent rewards.

Diablo 3 adds Paragon system, raises level cap... sort of

Hamflank

I haven't played Diablo III, nor intend to, so perhaps I'm all wrong, but apart from the DRM, I don't really understand the bucketloads of hate for this game.

Aside from subscription and microtransaction based games, there aren't that many developers that keep adding content and features after release. What did people expect? That they would keep adding content each month just to add replay value for free?

Star Wars: The Old Republic Review

Hamflank

The sad thing about this game is that's it's not cool to like it.

It's too much WoW, it's not KOTOR 3, it's made by the guys that made Dragon Age 2, it's published by the satanic Riccitello, it's neither Skyrim, nor Dark Souls.

The fact is, it's not too little, nor too late. For me, it came right on time and I'm having the most fun with a game I've had in ages.

Star Wars: The Old Republic beta test weekend goes live

Hamflank

Having played a smuggler (and wee bit of Sith warrior) for about 6 hours, here are my first impressions:

- Mechanics and interface are quite similar to WoW.
- Questing is quite different, though. Virtually no backtracking. Voice-acting really helps bringing things to life and actually make you care about the things you do (or don't do). It really feels more like a single player game in a MMO world. The storyline draws you in as well.
- The scale of things is impressive, Coruscant feels huge.
- Performance is good on an iMac 2010 core i3. At 1920x1080 with most stuff maxed out, I get decent framerates. Turning up shadow complexity slows things down quite drastically, though.

So yes, at first it feels like WoW, especially when you start off in the beginner area with a crapload of peers wearing the same jackets and pants, but after an hour or so you start to appreciate the effort Bioware put into making an actually fun MMO. So far, so good.

Konami scraps 1st PES 2012 Xbox demo

Hamflank

Tried the PES 2012 PS3 demo. I find it an enjoyable piece of football simulation so far. Some negatives for me are the keeper AI (too much diving going on with easy balls) and the shots at goal seem to have no pace at all. On the positive side, it feels more realistic than FIFA (which can also be a negative of course, steeper learning curve) and the attention to detail like men with sticks poking in the grass during half time.

Also, what's up with the AC Milan ads and the team being overrated? Sponsor, much?
