The big question for me is, what are Microsoft planning that will justify the confidence that led to this massive own goal? With Windows 8, Surface and Xbox One, Microsoft may be heading for a very tricky few years indeed.

Blizzard delays Titan MMO, will now launch 2016 "at the earliest"

Gusdor

You don't need a team of 100 to create core tech. Sounds like that's what is going on. An engine upgrade / rewrite. Pre-production work. A lot of staff of these big budget titles are artists and admin grunts. You just don't need many producers, project managers and SoftImage gurus when you are writing tech - probably server end tech at that.

What EA Sports' new Ignite engine means for a game like FIFA 14

Gusdor

4 times more calculations per second? That is the hardware, not the engine

Quicker free kicks as the match progresses? That is a game script implementation detail, not the engine.

Does this nonsense actually work on anyone? Surely these are straight up lies and are illegal?

Phil Harrison tries (again) to clarify game ownership, second-hand sales and always-online in Xbox One

Gusdor

The advantage of a console for me has always been:
a) My girlfriend can have a crack at dishnoured/bioshock/batmanAA/halo when I am done.
b) I can trade with my friends.
c) I can rent
d) Streaming media from DLNA servers

That is all going away, with the exception of d which is already done BETTER by my television.

I'm not sure I will bother with next gen. Its getting really hard to justify.

Add money to the $1.6m Dota 2 International prize pool by buying a "living" virtual book

Gusdor

@Velocityraptor DOTA really comes into its own when you and 4 friends learn and get better. I find that a single win outweighs the pain of 3 previous losses. Identifying what went wrong /right is part of the 'fun'.

Dota is a micro/macro game. You have micro (position, spell targeting, spell appropriateness) and macro (items, gold farming, levelling fast, pushing lanes). It cannot be everyone's favourite game and I would not discredit anyone for not enjoying it but it is worth investing a little time in if you have friends who play.

Stainless, try meeting one target before creating two more.
