Alien: Isolation leads 2015 BAFTA Game Awards nominations

GaryHoward

Not a single nomination for Wolfenstein: The New Order?! Far Cry 4 gets nominated for Game Design, Artistic Achievement, Story, Music and Wolfenstein doesn't?! Disgraceful. It was bad enough when Far Cry 4 won 'Best Shooter' over Wolfenstein at The Game Awards. Everything else I liked last year gets at least one nomination, but Wolfenstein - nill.

South Park: The Stick of Truth censored in Europe

GaryHoward

Okay, some sites are reporting that is just the console versions that are being censored. I hope the PC version is untouched. I don't know how true that is though.

Edit: It looks like Wesley just edited that in there, that the PC version is unaffected, good.

GaryHoward

The idea of censoring an 18-rated game is still retarded, and this is South Park! You don't censor South Park! I know it's only a few scenes, but I'm going to be getting an American copy now, on console that's easy, but on PC, I am not sure. Does buying the download for it from somewhere like amazon.COM grant you an American version of it on Steam?

Shivering Isles for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. More of an expansion than your typical little piece of DLC, and what an amazing one it is. Cyrodiil can be mad at times depending on how you role-play it, but then you venture into the realm of madness itself, created by Sheogorath - the Daedric Prince of Madness. He seeks a champion, he seeks someone to take on his realm for his own amusement, and you play along, and while you're at it, you go and explore the isles in it's entirety. And it is beautiful, and lush, and one side is light, and one side is dark, like Tim Burton-dark. A lot of Cyrodiil was quite bland and therefore travelling into the Isles was rather refreshing. There are also new enemies, new quests, new dungeons, new weapons and other awesome loot. Also, I wouldn't advise you to attack Sheogorath, unless you like falling a thousand feet to your death (lol).

Indie devs troll King's "Candy" trademark as Banner Saga targeted

GaryHoward

This is dumber than the Scrolls dispute, and King just comes off as a bunch of greedy bullies. It's bad enough they got successful by creating a Bejeweled clone, now they want to put a small indie company like Stoic out of business, the latter can only happen if it goes as far as going to court, and I hope their lawyers are smart enough not to take this further and just leave Stoic well alone. This is just ridiculous.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is more than a facelift, dev insists

GaryHoward

"I'm not quoting a framerate as we're still optimising the game," It's 30FPS. TressFX really tanks your framerate. I have the definitive version already on PC (^_^) and with TressFX, it drops down to 30-40FPS, without it, I get around 80.

Face-Off: Batman: Arkham Origins

GaryHoward

@Nokterian Combat is exactly the same! It's still awesome, but exactly the same nonetheless, other than the few extra gadgets, which you don't really use in combat that much anyway. The story (and ending) is weak, Gotham City is just a soulless copy & paste of Arkham City, boss fights were terrible, however I do agree that the PhysX/DirectX11 stuff made it more immersive, the snow is very nice in particular, even though they were some bad textures and animations in places. What exactly can Rocksteady learn from WB Montreal?!

It is very derivative of Rocksteady's games because Montreal were terrified of changing a thing, that's fair enough I guess, but the end result is that it is mediocre. I do like that Montreal made an effort with the crime-investigation stuff, even though it's very hand-holding and there wasn't enough of it. It's not terrible, but it's not Game of the Year either. It's pretty much a cynical cash-in on WB's part. And oh yeah, it's buggy as s**t. 5/10 for effort, it is a Batman game still.

The universal systems of Tom Francis

GaryHoward

@povu I think it says on his website that he's hiring someone to program in a Steam Workshop thing, so people can create levels and upload them, that's what the game really needs. It's a great game, but it is very short, and Steam Workshop/level-editing will turn that great game into an excellent one.

The Digital Foundry budget graphics card upgrade guide

GaryHoward

Back in December I managed to find a HD7850 for 120 (plus delivery and it has 2GB dedicated memory instead of 1), and it included free games: Hitman Absolution and Sleeping Dogs on Steam, and Far Cry 3 on uPlay. And it's performs wonderfully. Funnily enough, it averages at 20-30 FPS when I try to run Hitman on Ultra settings, so I had to cap that down to high and a few medium settings. Planetside 2 is probably the most spec-intensive game I'm playing at the moment, but I have to have it on a mix of medium to high settings to get it to perform at an average of 50FPS at best.

I was such a bisexual whore in Dragon Age: Origins. Male elf on male elf action with Zevran, then a threesome with Isabella, and then Morrigan, and the Leliana. I opted for Leliana in the end, even though I got Morrigan up the duff. Dragon Age: Origins! One of my favourite games all time. It's not about dark Tolkien-esque fantasy, it's all about sexy times!

Microsoft finally lifts Windows Store 18-rated games ban

GaryHoward

@SaintDaveUK Have you been playing a lot of Steam games then? How is it playing Steam games and other new high end games on Windows 8? Any specific ones that don't work or anything? I'm building my own gaming PC very soon, but haven't decided between getting Windows 7 or Windows 8. Having being used to Windows 7 already, I would rather stick with that, but I need to know if Windows 8 is not as bad as everyone says it is, I don't just want to take Gabe Newell's word for it. I just have to know. Please. :)

Microsoft are idiots, just when the fighting game genre has become so big again in the past few years, they say no to Killer Instinct 3? It would sell! [sigh] I miss pre-2002 Rare. I tried to play BK: Nuts and Bolts, and though it's very pretty, I couldn't play more than an couple of hours of it, felt so empty and soulless.

Chris is an awesome bloke though, if I had an iPad, I would buy his new game without question. I'm following him on Twitter for now, that's good enough.

@Lunatic4ever I've heard very good things about the sequel, a lot of people in fact saying it is better, it's just buggier that's all. Obsidian are top-notch when it comes to writing in RPGS, just look at Fallout: New Vegas and Alpha Protocol. And it would be nice to own an actual digital (and legit) copy of KOTOR 2. And 16:9 widescreen support would be great as well, if that's not too much to ask for.
