Diablo 3 patch limits new players from accessing entire game for up to 72 hours

FraggleRocky

I remember reading about this game months ago and thinking "ooh", that looks exciting!" I haven't played Diablo before. Every single article I read about it makes me realise it's one franchise that I wouldn't touch with a barge-pole. Why would anyone bother with all of this mucking about when there are so many good games to choose from nowadays?

I've only recently decided to give the Civ games a go. I got Civ 5 and love it. It really does have the scary hypnotic ability to suck up your time like nothing else I've experienced!

I don't think I'll be getting any add-ons purely because of time issues.

Gameglobe Preview: Playful Creation from the Land of Lego

FraggleRocky

It looks interesting but also a bit predictable. So far all of the positives seem to be the ease of control and the overall look and feel. Unfortunatley, not allowing players to import textures or sounds is going to result in every game created on here sharing the same look and feel. I understand the reasoning behind this, most of us are not pros, and that is the point of a game(?) like this. It lets us mere mortals have a stab at being creative which is always fun. Surely though, history tells us that the best creations always come from being given the basic building blocks and letting peoples imaginations run riot. Sure, you end up with loads of crap but also some gems.

It's a tough balance for them to get right and I guess that's eventually what makes something like this sink or swim.

What a terrible shit-storm in a tea cup this is becoming.

The sexism argument is feeble at best, it barely deserves a response but if I had to I'd agree with Dangerous_Dan. It's a game of survival and it's this very event that kicks off the story of turning Lara into our well known formidable hero. I could just as easily take offence at seeing men constantly portrayed as sexual predators - But I don't. Why? Well because shit happens. Narratives are rarely going to focus on an average day at the office.

Also, it's just a small clip from what will hopefully be a nicely fleshed out (ohh a pun) story so as it stands it's way too early for the pc brigade (ohh another one) to start penning they're ill informed vacuous articles pushing they're own stupid self-righteous agenda.

I do think they need to take a look at the language they use when talking about the type of Lara they have tried to create. It did make me feel uneasy seeing the words puppy fat and sexy in the same statement.

Anyhoo, looks like it's gonna be a good game though - physics based puzzles, survival elements and so-on. I'm looking forward to it.

10-year-long Civilisation 2 game offers grim outlook for mankind

FraggleRocky

Surely he should get some sort of medal. He deserves something especially as the advertising itself is good for the franchise.

One of my mates still has an original Football management game (I forget which one but it's from this era) going. I've gotta remember to ask him how it's panning out? I'm guessing that all of the players are now sexist pundits and that the new players fall over if someone comes within 10 yards of them.

I don't mind QTE's and so on, Tomb Raider has always had those. The survival element looks good as long as it's not just an hours worth to sell the story. I really hope they nail the Tomb Raiding element. It's got potential from what I've been reading about the real world physics puzzles.

So, fingers crossed again! Although I wouldn't be surprised if it's crap either...

If it sells well I can't wait to read all of the newspaper articles (Daily Mail) foretelling how computer games will be the demise of civilisation as we now it. I'm glad that they've embraced the violence of the genre and am pretty sure I'll be able to play this without getting the urge to jump-spin crescent-kick or ram my bosses face onto the hobs of the oven at work. It's an urge I manage to fight every day and I'm sure a game won't tip me over the edge.

@Architect_z I'm not entirely sure but I think there are gestures and they're looking to include new ones as well. In the original Arma you can salute, lower your gun sit etc. I think slowly and organicly a kind of eticate system is starting to evolve within the game. Lowering your gun is a sign of passiveness. You should watch some of the clips on Youtube of people being robbed, it's bloody brilliant!

I've just turned my spare room upside-down looking for my original Arma2 disk! It's sods law that I only un-installed it a few weeks ago to make room on my hard drive... I've got my OA disk but without the other one it's useless! NOOOOO!!!!!

On a lighter note I hope this brings a new crowd to the ARMA world which I for a long time have believed is one of the best gaming environments ever created. Chernarus is honestly an amazing place to look at. The lighting and weather combined with the beautifull scenery never fail to make me want to explore and this mod sounds like a perfect reason for doing just that. Also, I've long believed that no other game has recreated the experience of wandering around at night with just a flashlight (or NV goggles if your lucky) as well as this, again because of the lighting. Although STALKER did a good job.

Anyway, if you havn't played ARMA or you were put off by the the original buggy game then now looks like the time to get involved.

Now where the hell did I put that disk...

This is yet another reason why nowadays I never buy a game on day one. I tend to wait a couple of months for it to get patched up and "finished" for a much more user friendly experience. It's a sad state of affairs but if I'm honest it doesn't really bother me too much.

FraggleRocky

@JensonJet No offence but I think you've missed the point of the article. Of course games are all full of colour (LIMBO excluded). And yes, grass is green and sky's are blue. It's the overall palette of a game that can really affect the feel of the world your about to explore.

The article uses a great example: Red River. Yes it's a military sim, of sorts, but they haven't forgotten about the ambience carefull colour choices can make to a game.

So again, no offence intended, it's your opinion but by saying people should just turn they're monitor RGB levels up really does spectacularly miss the point of an inreresting artitcle.

I love stealth games and it sounds like they've done a good job here but it keeps being marked down for various other reasons. I never completely rely on reviews, I prefer to judge for myself but this one is proving tricky to work out!
