Battlefield 5 delayed a month

Ed6445

@BumpkinRich yep you're right - released a week apart. Having played both they're clearly very different games, but they absolutely would have competed against each other. Stupid decision on the part of EA

Are mechanical keyboards really good for gaming?

Ed6445

Agreed, I've got the K70 and it's great - I've had it for several years and I've never had a problem with it (not even an LED failing). It's fantastic for gaming - the original reason I got it - and for typing, now that real life has intervened!

Nvidia offers free SSDs with GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1060 graphics cards

Ed6445

Funnily enough I got the 240gb ssd and the EVGA 1060 last week, though luckily I only spent about a tenner more than the offer so I won't beat myself up! The 1060 is fantastic - the EVGA card is tiny but the cooler is amazing, it's really quiet with temps staying nice and cool even in more demanding games. Plus it's revitalised my rather ancient machine, so I'm a happy man!

Assassin's Creed Odyssey has leaked via a keyring

Ed6445

To be fair you can pick one of these keyrings up in almost any souvenir shop in Greece, wouldn't take much to mock up an icon for it. Not saying it definitely won't be set in ancient Greece, but I'm struggling to see why it would be set there (saying that as a fan of ancient Greece).

Today is the third anniversary of The Witcher 3

Ed6445

The Witcher 3 has a special place in my heart - the last really big game I played before my son came along, and the last game I could easily sink 3 hours or so into in one sitting. It arrived at a perfect time for me and was a near perfect game.

Assassin's Creed's comics just delivered a moment fans have waited nearly a decade for

Ed6445

To be fair, what I've been waiting a decade for is for the Ass Creed games to drop the silly sci-fi stuff and just focus on the historical setting.

Watch God of War's director discover how well critics responded

Ed6445

I really, really love this video. It's so easy to forget when you're playing a game that someone poured their heart and soul into it, and it's great when it pays off like it seems to have with God of War. Barlog's passion is a great thing to see.
Oh, and his name is so close to being Balrog that I love him even more.

Welcome to the new Eurogamer

I've used the new layout for a day now, and I just don't like it - the old format made it easy to find stuff that was new and interesting, while still being able to locate older articles. The new layout isn't very user friendly and frankly looks a bit rubbish on mobile.

President Trump shown violent video game reel while meeting members of the industry

Ed6445

@StanDarsh-360 the 30 number is total mass shootings (not just school shootings) in the US since 1st January. And comparing gun violence in the US to acts of international terror in the UK is crass in the extreme.

Violent video games are also sold in Britain.
Number of mass shootings in the last decade in the UK: 0
Number of mass shootings in the US since THE START OF 2018: 30.
Its almost like video games aren't the problem. Weird.

Video games and the power of winter

Ed6445

The first time I really felt the cold of winter in a video game was the original Metal Gear Solid. Footprints in the snow that your enemy could follow, the very warm clothing the enemies wore and the mist from their breath really transmitted the biting cold of the Arctic setting.

EA has shut down Visceral Games

Ed6445

A miserable demise of a once-great studio, echoing Bioware. Dead Space 1 and 2 were clever action-horror games that did things differently (never played 3, but I gather it was EA'd, as it were) - it's a shame we won't see another like the first two.

Free update turns Assassin's Creed Origins into an interactive museum

Ed6445

This is actually a great idea. I effectively treat Ass Creed as a historical tourism simulator (acknowledging that there's a fair bit of artistic license) so this is a nice addition. Now for them to create a mode that lets you turn off the same five identical enemies constantly interrupting your journey through the city.

Great article. Some games feel so effortlessly great (XCOM, Witcher 3 and, most recently for me, Horizon Zero Dawn) that it's easy to forget that people poured their heart and soul into them, agonising over details which feel so integral in the finished product. Nice to have this kind of insight.
