To add for the smaller boat you can look over the back from the top deck and see the map, useful for the lone sailor, also in the beta the cutlass thrust move can be used as a long jump and dive.

@Samael_Blackwing A classic RPG way of acquiring magic through adventure is much more Pratchet's witches. Someone is going to exploit the Aching series one day in film and games (I hear Henson and Riannah are trying) and I am going to geek out.

Micro Machines World Series review

DugBriderider

@parablax

It sound like your missing Toybox Turbos, which is heavily referenced in the review and cost £3 on Steam. I bought that one and was looking forward to refinement on the concept, whist TT is a good stab we have all played older better versions and hoped this woudl satisfy, pity I was looking forward to Brian's in-game Commentary too.

Fils-Aime continued, "as well as what compels people who might be sitting on the sidelines to jump in."

I believe there are a great many people on the sidelines waiting to jump in Reg, but you've just built a fairly high wall and not mentioned the water temperature.

I'm gonna wait till few jump in and hear the sound of gentle frolicking. In the meantime there a dozen well used pools nearby.

Behind the Scenes on Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit

DugBriderider

We have enjoyed this its not far off family viewing in my house. Most of the adult comedy is suggestive rather than expletive and a good cultural education the generation who didn't grow up with that stuff.

I do hope they get a second series and refine the winning format. lose the rotating and illogical scoring, a bit more audience participation, invite back competent guests, find the workable games for the format and it could run and run. Dave is a good fit for budget and audience.

Here's the first trailer for the new Toejam & Earl game

DugBriderider

Ha looks ok, hope they nail it as have fond memories of the original and still fire it up on the wii virtual console occasionally.

The timing is great as he original was a procedural generated rogelite game with solid local multiplayer. A concept well ahead of its time.

The present mechanic was fantastic, all items are a mystery until you unwrap them then you know from then on. Some always good (level-up, extra life) some good in context but bad when unexpected (rocket skates) and some always bad (bummer, tomato rain). The worst present of all was the randomiser which would make all the presents a mystery again. Every opening had fantastic risk reward and if you don't pay the carrot man to ID mystery presents at a cost.

Glad shes getting the success and gets to try an action role but I don't have high expectations for the film.

Wow a mention for Big red Racing which was a great game for PC user who didn't have mario kart. It best feature was put a CD in the disk tray and it will play during the game (rare thing back then). As such it had the perfect soundtrack of Pavments's Crooked Rain Crooked Rain which is filled with fun rocky anthems perfect for racing.

The XCOM 2 mods you can play from day one

DugBriderider

I can see this game benefiting from a Dr Who Mod, it suits it very well. You always turn up in a spaceship, with a bunch of disposable red shirts to deal with any hostile aliens. It now seems that tech skills are more important so you can have the Dr as an unarmed tech genius, a companion to rescue, a tardis for base creation.

You could quickly get a monster of the week scenario up and going but there is also potential for a fully fledged campaign.

DugBriderider

Ouch that got a bashing. I thought it was OK but I don't think it was aimed at the gaming community. It told me nothing particularly new but did remind me of things I had forgotten. For my wife who was watching it beside me it was all new information and sparked a few conversations such as "Is GTA made in Britain?" Yes "Did they leave 'Hot Coffee' in there deliberately?" Never been proven "Did they get to make any more games" Oh yes

To reiterate an earlier post I think it was worth trying. It not as if anyone else is looking at the industry using this medium. TV reaches such a big audience and some of that audience may look into the material further.

Pixels: the Eurogamer review

DugBriderider

So it seems this is not the first Eurogamer Film review but it's first one I noticed. I open the article thinking they've done a game tie in that awful movie this should be fun read, then a couple of paragraphs in I thought this is meandering off the topic a bit much even by lovable Eurogamer standards. By then end I appreciated the articulate review from an alternative angle.

If you want to see Adam Sandler play video games in a movie then "Reign Over Me" where he uses "Shadow of the Colossus" to escape his debilitating grief is a far better example. Hopefully when he has made more money than anyone could possible need he will go back to those serious "broken man" roles that made him worth watching.

"Almost certain failure": How Monolith saved Mordor

DugBriderider

I'm playing this now having borrowed a ps4 for few weeks, it a great game with lots of interesting ideas and good use of a licence. It may testament to the variety of systems that not everybody liked it, I am under half way so haven't experienced the overpowered phenomenon yet. But there is certainly one antagonist "Argath the Wise" who hangs around the spawn and has killed me so many times. He is a nemesis of my own making, I love to hate him and choosing my upgrades to best combat his talent with a poisonous spear. It's a truly novel situation and after 20 years of play new ideas are hard cur racy for me.

Watch someone run around a huge Battlefield Hardline map all on their own

DugBriderider

Yup looks like a missed opportunity, could have stripped it back Like BC2: Vietnam limited the unlocks, low population servers, transport vehicles only, asymmetric load outs, limited explosives and created a much tighter variation on BF.

It just looks too close to BF4 so unless the single player is phenomenal it wont attract the audience.

Doctor Who: The Adventure Games released on Steam

DugBriderider

My opinion (copied from previous game articles) is that if you playing as the Doctor in a Dr Who game then the licence has already been squandered. The Dr is always picking up random people taking them for rides dropping them into danger, needing their help. He is the the perfect NPC to base a wild adventure around.

Best Multiplayer?
Grand Theft Auto V, World of Tanks, Super Mario 3D World, The Last of Us, Dota 2, Battlefield 4

Going on what I've heard Dota 2 would be the shoe in based on what it has achieved (people will be playing that for along time to come). If you had to sit down and play them all for a few hours you would probably have the most fun in GTA V, shows the problems with judging such a varied medium.

Why the creator of Flappy Bird pulled the game from sale

DugBriderider

Agreed that this isn't true or he didn't think think it through. His compulsive game has been removed but clones have swooped in to feed that compulsion and exploit it further. It sound like his version of the game was the most benign.

If I was an absolute bastard I would said he has taken this one down to put up a more lucrative clone himself with less copyright issues.

Battlefield 4: disaster report

DugBriderider

Multiplayer still not working fro me. At the risk of repeating myself. I acquired this at lunch for PC, having minimum specs it work OK but I could see some RAM and a new graphics card will make big improvements, stretched my finances and brought an AMD 7850 as a Xmas present to myself on the promise of mantle, multi-player game has rarely (5% of attempts) worked for me since then. Exhausted all channels of support, and hoped the Mantel API would help (but they haven't rolled it out to the lower spec cards yet). By the looks of thing they have bigger fish to fry.

My Battlefield Experience

Oh the 14.1 driver do support my card and now all is fixed I am pleased but it has taken 2 months to play the multiplayer.

Battlefield 4: China Rising review

DugBriderider

I have dedicated far too much of my time to this game but only 5% playing it. The rest of the time has been working out why my PC can't play it (I'm close to minimum spec but with a new graphics card) most of the time I see this."Game disconnected: you were kicked from the game." I am awaiting a patch or help from EA plus some RAM is in the post, but they have bigger fish to fry at the moment.
