Having a Wii U renaissance in our house as kid has just got Smash Bros. It's just a lovely machine for dipping into the Nintendo back catalogue. |

I think it's fair to give artistic creations a kicking if they are really whitewashed, look at Richard Curtis' London in Notting Hill, or Woody Allen's Manhattan (and London). But not this game - let's have some proportion here. It's so tenuous to give it a kicking over racial representation. There will be a million other historical inaccuracies in it - the past really is an alien place, conceptually, linguistically etc. I really think these student politics type discussions play into the hands of the frothing right. |

More and more I need to be honest with myself: I'll get more enjoyment out of games like this than most of the big shouty generic AAA blockbusters. |

Cuphead review
I would absolutely recommend this, even if Eurogamer won't. I suck at games but this always feels challenging in the right way, you are always learning, getting closer. The amazing artistry and design help reinforce it: it's an intense game but also a really special one. |

Tokido crowned Street Fighter 5 Evo 2017 champion
I think the readers have spoken re. the spoiler nature of the headline. Why not just try a different approach next year? A lot of us in EU watch Evo via vods the next day - it's just a fact due to the time difference. |

A year on from launch, Overwatch is a struggling eSport
Twitch streamers like Seagull always get good numbers so I don't think it's a write off for spectators. It's cool to watch high level players - but only from their first person perspective at the moment. The zoomed out spectator mode is just too messy, and jumping from one player to the next as people commentate is too confusing and loses all momentum. |

There's another ZX Spectrum crowdfunder - but this one looks promising
The 'expanded' aspect is a bit weird. At that point aren't you just inventing a new machine somehow pitched between the original speccy and an arbitrary point in the future? What's the point? You could just put a modern processor in it and run modern things that would have melted my brain as a kid hunched over my 128+2. |

Meeting Andrzej Sapkowski, the writer who created The Witcher
Agree with lots of others here - the books are fantastic, very European, very folky, mixing reality with the mythical. The games are very respectful and nail a lot of this. |

The story of Crash magazine
I must admit, I had no idea at the time that it was written by kids. I don't think any website has recaptured the sense of those 80s computer mags really. C&VG was also great for a spell there, with Tony Takoushi's column on consoles and Japanese kit like some dispatches from an incredible future. |

In praise of the Wii U, my son's first console
My kid has enjoyed the WiiU, especially the Lego Dimensions stuff. But most of our games are on Steam now and I'm not sure the other (7yo) kids in the playground know what he's on about when he talks about that. Steam downloads are also less tangible than a dvd or a cartridge too. It's complex gaming with kids these days! |

Fallout 4 one year on
I thought it was great when played on my own terms and was really immersive to wander around. I thought the engine was capable of some really great visuals at times - the outcry about graphics was unfair I reckon. The 'get in with all factions then choose one' structure is awful though, I think, just like Skyrim. I quit before making the choice and go my own way. People also romanticise NV. There were some great characters but a lot of janky hopping around restrictive brown mountains. New Vegas city was a massive let down too. I don't think we've ever had a Fallout game that totally nailed it. They are brilliant but all frustrating in some way. |

Meet the man Gabe Newell called an ass on Reddit
I enjoyed that. People like 2GD are really helping shape competitive game commentary and coverage, I wish he'd do more GD Studio stuff. The International furore was daft but a typical culture clash of a corporate US production meeting a very British kind of anarchic sense of humour. He's better off doing his own stuff. |

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 review

Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit is the UK's next video game TV show
"We had GamesMaster in the nineties. Thumb Bandits in the noughties. Now, in the twenty-tens, we've got Go 8 Bit."Twitch, YouTube, Chromecast, Rokus. There is basically an infinite amount of gaming content you can have on your telly right now. From raw streams to slickly packaged stuff (VideoGaiden goes up on YouTube). Who needs some series on Dave? |

Xian crowned Street Fighter 4 Evo 2013 champion
I get the arguments for breaking the news on winners as in World Cup results. But isn't there something about acknowledging that large numbers of people in Europe wouldn't have had the opportunity to watch a niche 5am event that is largely consumed by vods? I'm not on a crusade, just seemed a fair observation. |

Blizzard's Rob Pardo comes to Jay Wilson's defence as Diablo 3 forum turns sour
I enjoyed Diablo 3 a lot. People seem to expect a kind of lifelong, ever-updating, MMORPG type model of game which is a pretty unfair expectation. Loads of other comparably priced games are not shat on for these reasons. |
